  1. Does anyone have access to an 09 Edge shop manual that can shed some light on the procedure for replacing rear shocks?
  2. I'm interested in this also. I have 51K on my 09 and will be replacing the rear ones soon. I just finished the wife's 02 Mercury Grand Marquis. The fronts were easy. The rear ones were another story. I had to make access through the forward part of the trunk and use an impact wrench to remove the old ones. An air compressor, impact wrench and metal cutting wheel were required. Had to purchase a 1 1/4 wrench from a pawn shop.
  3. I replaced the HP's on my 2009 with the Yokohama Avid Envigors. The Avid Envigors have about 6000 miles on them now. In that 6000 miles I have traveled in rain and snow and feel very comfortable with their performance. There was black ice, packed snow and slush across central Oregon, and various types of snow and freezing stuff with accumulation from Williams, AZ to Grants, NM. Through all of this I traveled at the speed limit for the most part without any problems. The tires are inflated to 37 PSI.
  4. The seal was replaced in one day even after the wrong seal was initially ordered. All in all the dealership did a good so far as I can tell.
  5. 2009 SEL FWD 44925 miles I just had an oil leak diagnosed as drivers side axel seal leaking. The seal had to be ordered, should be at dealer late tomorrow. I'll take it in Wednesday for the seal fix. Will add to this thread when its done.

  7. Do you have the driver side visor with Home link?
  8. What is the oil pressure at Normal Operating Temperature at idle and at speed, i.e. 60 MPH? I just installed an oil pressure gage and was wondering what the Ford design parameters are. Thanks

  10. When I got my Edge I looked at the two big black styrofoam contoured blocks around the spare tire and thought "what a waste of space". Then I became aware of a cargo storage system "available from Ford" for about $350 or so. I saw a picture of it, then I put my mind to work. I built the pictured structure from 1/2 inch plywood and a 2x2. The most expensive thing was the flat black paint, $1 or so at China Mart. All of the stuff laid out on the floor fits into the available area around the spare tire. I travel quite frequently and like to have "stuff" just in case there is a need.
  11. Last month, the EPA approved a bump to 15% ethanol in ordinary gasoline from the current 10% for vehicles from the 2007 model year and newer. How will E-15% affect my 2009 Edge which is NOT a flex fuel vehicle? I know that the MPG will decrease, but am concerned about the fuel system being degraded by the ethanol increase.
  12. When I look at the air intake on my 2009 I can see that the factory has provided me with a TRUE cold air intake. The air box actually has two intake paths, the main one comes from up front just behind the grill and a secondary intake is at the bottom of the air box near the left front wheel well. If you plug this intake all of the engine air will be provided through the intake behind the grill, thus COLD AIR.
  13. Use Rain-X on the windshield and other windows. Rain-X will release the ice quicker. I also keep a gallon of water with an ounce or two of alcohol in it setting by the door. The room temperature water will remove the frost and thin ice and not refreeze due to the alcohol.
  14. I have been using this method for the past 20 years or so. I use a short piece of hose ( 6 to 8 inches) with a female coupling that attaches to a threaded spray nozzle with male hose threads. Run the water just enough to get a laminar flow from the end of the hose. Start at the top and work down. I can get the glass and most of the vehicle water free, then finish the job with a chamois. It really helps to have a GOOD wax job on the vehicle.

Patented "Z" design provides your vehicle with continuous, aggressive traction under all ice and snow conditions. Part of the chain is in contact with the road at all times for superior take-hold traction — no gaps as with conventional chains. Fits beautifully and adjusts automatically. It rides quieter and smoother than link chains. Ultra-strong aircraft cable is covered with carbon steel rollers. Sharp rotating roller edges bite deep into snow, ice and mud yet won't wear down sidewalls like link chains. Side cable/roller cable connector lies flat against tire — nothing to stick out and get caught on fender. "Z" design chains install easily even on vehicles with anti-lock brakes or all-wheel drive. Rubber tightener takes up all slack in chains — no adjustments ever! A durable plastic storage case and plastic gloves included. For FWD and RWD vehicles with radial and conventional tires.
  19. Do you have the driver side visor with Home link?
  20. Wear a shirt with a pocket and USE the pocket to hold the keys.
  21. A good torque wrench is much cheaper than new rotors. If the lug nuts are properly torqued to 100 ft/lbs you have a much better chance of getting ALL of them off if you have to change a tire on the roadside. A while back I had purchased a lifetime rotate and balance and was rotating tires at home (didn't have the time to wait in line at the tire store). At least one lug on all 4 wheels was grossly over torqued. I would not have been able to remove those lugs on the road side. I twisted a T wrench and broke a socket. I had to use a 4 foot cheater on a breaker bar to loosen the lugs. After I completed the rotation I went back to the tire store and complained. They bought me a new T wrench and socket and refunded the cost of the lifetime rotate and balance. I do ALL tire rotation at home now. I don't trust kids gone wild with an impact wrench.
  22. There is 5 pages of bumper protection information here http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/3905-found-it/
  23. Most new and even some used vehicles come with an owners manual. In the owners manual is information regarding fuses and the component that is protected. My fuse information is in a section called "Roadside Emergencies". As an EXAMPLE, fuse #14 protects the power lift gate module with a 10 amp fuse . The power lift gate, if equipped, will operate without the ignition key switch in the ON position. This circuit could also be used to power your GPS or any other attachment that you want to have powered with the key in OFF. In all fuse panels there is a "HOT" side and a "LOAD" side, the fuse bridges these two. If there is an over current situation the fuse will disconnect the "LOAD" side. To find which is the "LOAD" side remove the fuse and check both connection points in the fuse panel for 12 volts with a meter or test light. The side with 0 volts or no light illumination is the "LOAD" side. Insert the + (positive) wire into the load side and reinstall the fuse. Connect the other wire to a ground (any screw that attaches something to the vehicles metal ). If you want a circuit that is switched find one that is ON and OFF with the ignition switch. CAUTION I left my cell phone charger plugged in for 24 hours and when I went to use the vehicle it would not start. The cell phone charger drained the battery.
  24. I keep records on an Excel spread sheet. Since January 1, 2010 I have traveled 20082.00 miles and have purchased 931.096 gallons of fuel. The average over 9+months is 21.568 MPG. This includes a Highway and City driving, obviously much more highway than city. Highest was 26.06 MPG and lowest was 16.15MPG. Greatest quantity of gas in one fill-up = 20.671 after 513.8 miles 24.86 MPG This is averaged over 66 entries into the spread sheet and includes every weather condition imaginable (snow, rain, head wind, tail wind, 110+ heat and <10). No jack rabbit starts, always anticipate stops and traffic slow ups, shift to neutral at stop lights. 2009 Edge now has 39135.7 miles on the tracker. I'm trying to wear this one out so I can get one with the 3.5 EcoBoost.
  25. Power them from a "switched" circuit i.e. one that is controlled by the ignition key, I power my radar detector from a switched circuit in the fuse panel just forward of the drivers door. My phone charger charges my phone in an hour or less. after charging I unplug it. My GPS is is wired into a hot circuit in the fuse panel by the drivers door, I shut it off when I get to my destination and remove it so that I can maintain ownership.
