  1. The short anwsers, no and maybe. No way to add a custom POI like we can to the Garmins. Aklso, somewhere buried in the Menu and Nav you'll find an option for Breadcrumbs. I tried it once and turned the option off. I'm hoping a future version of the MFT software permits adding custom POIs, etc.
  2. Actually, may open up a new set of aftermarket options; replacable units or install new OS and apps.
  3. I ordered my Edge with a factory installed hitch. I installed a receiver for an extended tie off point for securing my kayak's stern tiedown line. The fist time I drove with the receiver in I heard a lot of racket. I've ridden in several trucks towing boats and trailers, but never heard or noticed the constant slamming. I ordered a Boone No Rattle Hitch Wedge http://www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Accessories/Boone-Outdoor/93347.html which works great. Yup, the receiver's a bit overkill for tying down the kayak, but I'm extended out a bit plus the receiver holds an eye bolt for tiedown point.
  4. Do some Google searches for various mounts people made for iPads and Moto Xooms. You might find some great ideas.
  5. If the 2012 ships with racks I'm definitely interested to see whether or not they'll fit our cars.
  6. See the update by dr. edge or http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/7570-sirius-voice-command-channel-selection-fix/page__p__60476__hl__sirius__fromsearch__1#entry60476
  7. I first wonder too about people mentioning the problem then I ran into it. Basically, if a Sirius channel moved to a new channel the system selected the old channel number when you used Voice commands. For example, Bluesville moved from 74 to 70. If I gave the command to select Bluesville, I'm lisenting to Met Opera. If I gave the command for Met Opera I heard some other off beat station; only voice commands encountered the problem.
  8. Many encountered selecting Sirius channels after Sirius Channel changes in early May. A fix exists on SyncMyRide under Communities>Sync Annoucnements>Sirius Voice Command Update File You'll need to login and download the zip file. Note, the zip contains a Readme file with instructions re: unzipping the file, etc. I installed the fix early today. My system didn't reboot like the Readme mentioned, but went into a diner for breakfast and after restarting the car I found the patch fixed my problems. I can now successfully select and choose the correct channels.
  9. First, login into sysncmyride.com and choose the menu, Update and Customize. Next, download the Sync Status Tool Checker to a USB drive plus follow the instructions on the website to run the utility in your car. You'll need a version history uploaded to syncmyride. I've never seen any updates appear on the Update link, but instead hear about updates from people here or when I go to the dealer. Also, just found a link re: Sirius Voice Command Channel selection update in the Sync communities. Nope, trying the update in the morning.
  10. I've enabled the backup camera like you show in your photos and actually like the enhanced version more than the non-enhanced.
  11. I'm on 2.8 and never seen the problem. I manually changed my preset for Bluesville because Sirius changed the channel. ClVinyl, ClRewind and Margaritaville never changed channel numbers. I've run into some goofy issues setting up my Nav favorites on 2.8, but waiting until I hear about another upodate version before I head back to the dealer.
  12. Nav takes a bit of time to load after starting the car. I see a msg, Nav loading unavailable until the software finsihes loading. I upgraded my Garmin to a 2460LT and many times use both simultaneously. Yes, can get very annoying when the both GPS play a prompt and they're using different messages.
  13. Glass company filled a small chip with spider crack for me. Stone hit my Edge's windshiled at 1800 miles. The repair guy and myself can find the repair; others, good luck. Insurance picked up the tab. Repair guy understood why I didn't want to replace the windshiled on a new car. Work's waranteed in case the crack grows. I got stuck behind a gunite truck on the highway one Saturday. The truck hit a bump and a couple of pieces of gunite bounced over my windshield; yup, two tiny chips. Also, someone left me a gift one day; they scraped the side of the car. Looks like a body shop can rub out most of the damage created by the hit and run driver. My previous car, a Volvo XC 70 someone hit and ran too. I'm tired of paying for other's mistakes or negligence.
  14. Wilson's correct; 2.8's a dealer installable update. You can only down a staus checker from syncmyride site. The syncmyride software's for updating the Sync site with your update version numbers.
  15. Yup, I've downloaded an image using size, 742 X 378. I own a copy of Photoshop so I can easily resize my images.
  16. Trust me, I've assembled a long list of vehicles with large sunroofs and roof racks. Yup, sent my list to Ford requesting a roof rack on future cars. My current favorite OEM roof racks found on Volvo XC 60, Audi Q5 and Q7, BMW X3. The rack or rail if you prefer's small and very sturdy. Also, agree with you re:the need to exercise caution and use common sense when carrying boats, etc on roof racks. I thought about making a block and attaching it to the bumper behind the plastic grille, but decided against it. I considered mounting a U bolt in the block for an attachment for bow lines to keep my kayak's bow stable and secured to the car. I'm just going with the under hood tie down strap like you.
  17. If you live in a snowy climate buy the Weathertechs or Huskys. Both company's mats cover the carpets a lot better than the Ford all weather mats.
  18. I agree with Wilson. ProClip makes quality products and in a lot of cases, keep the main mount, but just change the device mount for the phone. I've owned several ProClip pieces and they hold up compared to a lot of cheaper mounts.
  19. Generally, Yakima and Thule accessories fit OEM bars. Here's the link to the box http://www.yakima.com/shop/cargo/rocketbox-series/rocketbox-15s Also, I see a note on the website stating the box will fit the 2011 Ford Edge. I'd used Yakima's fit my car link once saving the cookies. Good luck and hope htis helps
  20. Dealership performed a 2.8 update for me Friday. The version seems to work failry well :banvictory:
  21. I've used a 4th gen Classic, 5th Gen Nano and Touch. I used the Touch to listen to a playlist and then tried to Shuffle all songs, but ran into a problem. I suspect user error, but never went tback to retest. I primarily play the iPods on Shuffle and always with USB
  22. I do like your idea, but I've already invested in Thule towers and fit kit. Also, reluctant to drill holes, etc and don't want to worry about leaks. I know chaulk the holes, but never know. I'm still scratching my head wondering the real reason Ford didn't add the roof racks unless they're concerned about broken BAMRs. BTW, sometime in the past I found a website and photos showing an aluminum piece a guy fabricated. The piece is "L" shaped and fits between the hood and fender using the mounting bolt you used with your strap. Nope, I can't find the photos nor website.
  23. Thanks, I'll post photos or ideas once I try out a couple. I picked up a pair of these http://www.seattlesportsco.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=768&idcategory=0 and the others with just the grommet. I'd prefer to use a a strap around the bumper or something instead of opening the hood because we all know how difficult the hood closes on the Edge. I miss the tow bolts Volvo used on my XC 70. The bolts bolted to the car's frame/body making an extremely secure tiedown point at bow and stern.
  24. CiRocket, no need for a hard hat. You're correct, maps need some work. I just ordered a new Garmin to replace my older one. The MFT Nav's decent, but I still miss a lot of the Garmin's features.
  25. I quickly mounted my roof racks on a 2011 Edge Limited with a BAMR. First time I've every installed roof racks on a bare roof. I've always transported kayaks on cars with roof racks. Time to send Ford a friendly suggestion. I've attached a photo of one of my kayaks. The boat's 18 feet long and dwarfs the Edge. I put the boat on the bare rails, but need to install a Thule Slipstream which contains a roller. Unfortunately, rear crossbar's a long way from the rear of the car and you definitely need a roller assembly to slide the boat. Also, the Slipstream provides better support for the boat's hull. I can add my tiedowns right where the bulkheads meet the hull for added rigidity. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to secure the bow. I may run a Bison Hookm through the grille. Next, run a line from the bow to the Hookm. I'll attach a stern line to the tow hitch.
