  1. I've used three different phones in my Edge since I purchased the car in December 2010. The BB Strom 2 - all phone calls sound great for both sides. Droid X - noisy, iPhone 4s, my current phone sounds great. So, phones maybe part of the cause. When I first bought my BB Storm 2 I picked up one of the Blue Ant Bluetooth mic. I couldn't stand the noise and a friend of mine wondered where I called him from; terribly noisy. I returned the mic and picked up a different vendor's bluetooth mic which worked very well with the phone. I would suggest trying the phone in another car and monitor the results. Hopefully, you find an answer because yes it's an annoying problem.
  2. I installed the Thule setup vs Yakima; I prefer rectangular bars to round bars. I transport an 18 foot kayak. I'm on year two using the system. The system works, but I still wish Ford installed real racks or a track. The reasons, rack's up a little more from the car's roof, I feel more secure to attach aftermarket roof racks to a real roof rack and I can spread the bars apart further to carry a kayak. The current configuration's very secure, but I just feel more secure when the rack's feet wrap around a roof rack. I maybe ordering a 2013 Escape later this year for the roof racks, etc.
  3. I ordered mine in October 2010 receiving the car in December. Basically, mechanically, the car's very relaible. MFT, we all know the story. I'm 27K miles on the odmeter.
  4. Looks good. I agree, RackAttack's a great place to order rack stuff.
  5. Log into the Ford Owners site. You'll find manuals under your vehicle settings. https://owner.ford.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Owner/Page/HomePage
  6. Some of us just enjoy "customizing" things. I suspect Ford designers originally created the space to hold large objects like CDs.
  7. I park away from the herd. I'll walk and stay away from the door dingers. However, I someone still hit my car leaving a nice scrape and no note.
  8. Run a Vehicle Health Check which updates the Sync site.
  9. You can purchase the loops with a hoselike - http://www.thule.com/en-US/US/Products/Watersports/Accessories/530-Quick-Loop-Strap You can take a strap with the hose and place in the open rear hatch leaving the loop outside the car. Next, close the hatch and tie off the stern. Yes, an OK method, but I prefer more secure tiedown points. I returned a leased Volvo XC70 when I purchased my Edge. The Volvo's bumpers provided access points for 13 mm bolts used during shipping. Volvo provided one bolt to the customer and my salesman gave me another. Fantastic way to secure a kayak to the car. I wish all manufacturers used similar methods ro provded a hook or open spot under the bumper we could use.
  10. I use one the following under the hood - http://www.thule.com/en-US/US/Products/Watersports/Accessories/530-Quick-Loop-Strap for a bow tiedown. Stern, tie off on the trailer hitch. I'm still looking for a good bow tiedown method too.
  11. Hmm, reminds me of the song, I can't Drive 55..................................
  12. NWS Alpine mentioned using rivets in his installation. Here's a link to a systme used by Rack Attack - http://rackattackboston.wordpress.com/2010/05/08/ford-flex-with-bare-roof-%E2%80%93-thule-permanent-top-track-%E2%80%93-430r-tracker-ii-system/ They use flare nuts. Rack Attack Toronto blog - http://rackattacktoronto.wordpress.com/category/base-rack-systems/ I thought about the installation for transporting my kayaks, but decided no for a few reasons. I'd drive to Rack Attack for the installation, but in my mind I truly think you need to drop the headliner to caulk under the flare nuts. Also, I'm wondering if your better off adding epoxy under the flare nuts inside the car roof to prevent leaks? I know thye applied caulking around the top of the flare nut, but suspect over time the flare nut might start to leak. So, I'll stick with my current setup shown in the attachment. Sorry, dirty car needing a bath an wax job
  14. When I owned my Volvo guys used to ask the same question re: removing the white wax residue. Recommendation, peanut butter. No one ever mentioned smooth or chunky, but give it a try. I know, you're all laughing So, Google the string, "cars remove white wax from plastic peanut butter"
  15. I saw RED on Thursday night; they're thin like the green lines. I checked out the traffic alerts to find out exactly where to the "accident" I drove through the alleged location only to find traffic beginning to move.
  16. I went through some of the same issues last Friday when trying to enter some favorites; problems entering Favorites via the keyboard or voice. The Sync lady cancelled a session on me because she kept giving me the wrong info. The entire time I'm setting up the Favorites I'm thinking of the Discovery commericals, "Hello, my name is Peggy". The Nav portion needs a bit of GUI work.
  17. Blue envelope arrived from Ford yesterday Hopefully, you guys see yours VERY soon
  18. I'd contact a rack specialist like Rack Attack or Rack Outfitters for advice. Both Thule and Yakima prodcue well made products, but I can't recommend anything for a bike; kayaks yes, bikes, no. Also, stay away from the cheap rack systems sold at the various chain stores.
  19. Nav - ability to add POIs Ability to backup our presets and Nav Favorites
  20. Just a quick update re: the cell phone battery icon; it appears on the home page along with current street you're traveling plus heated seats button. So far, so good. I'm connecting one of my iPod's Friday for a test because I'm heading to Maine. Also, testing Nav. Reminds me, I need to add more Favorites.
  21. On a positive note, Ford mailed what 300K packages; just think, they're helping bring down the postal systems debt. OK, a minor drop in the bucket....................................... :kuko:
  22. I took my car in to fix problems with the Collision Avoidance system. I accidently touched an icy snowbank last week knocking the sensor loose. The dealship fixed the problem but more importantly, upgraded MFT plus installed the new Nav SD card. The system's fast including voice response. Push a button and you'll receive a response. While driving the Nav's arrow kept up with my location. I can't say the older Nav ever worked so well. I entered a couple of Nav Favorites finding the process less frustrating. My probelm, on the old Nav when entering an address you never quite know if you're done until the screen changes. I still see the same types of GUI in the new system. I do know it's dififcult to design a GUI everyone will like. I did see a few minor issues: no battery indicator for cell a few screens overlapped a bit when moving between Nav prompts set up my Wallpaper. I saw menu prompts moved form their expected locations. Wallpaper's a dim background now with overlayed menu choices. I actually liked the previous version better. Weather maps I didn't see any updated time. No big deal, but always checked the update time because my previous version failed to update in a timely manner. When doing a voice prompt, Map and the Map displays the cutting off the Sync lady. I hope she's not upset! :fear: [i've only used the new system about 30 minutes, but it's a lot better than our previous version. I expect a few minor bugs; it's the nature of the software usiness. Happy we received the update. OH yeah, I forgot. I paired my iPhone and called a friend of mine. We chatted for a moment and I noticed a BIG improvement on voice quality on my end. My friend said I sound fine and he's outdoors on a headset. I could hardly tell he's outdoors. I hope you receive your new updates soon.
  23. By chance, what's the link to the instructions on the Sync site? I lloked, but failed to find any. thanks
  24. Lot of chatter over on a Ford Explorer forum re: the update. A few forum members recieved calls from their dealship the update's out. Also, a Ford rep on the forum confirmed Ford's sending out the update.
