Pseank Posted August 8, 2017 Report Share Posted August 8, 2017 Hello, I recently purchased a 2014 Ford Edge, SEL with 17,000 miles on it. I recently started to hear an intermittent squeak/chirping noise from the front end while driving slowly (10-20mph). It seems to come on a bit more when I accelerate then disappears above 20 mph. Seems to do it after vehicle has warmed up. Car does not pull to either side, and sound seems to go away went brakes are applied, but maybe only because it is slowing down. Brakes appear good Could the CV joint, wheel bearings, etc. be already out with so few miles? Any zerk or lube joints I could hit in this area? Thank you for your time! Pseank Posted August 8, 2017 Author Report Share Posted August 8, 2017 UPDATE: I can now reproduce the chirping noise. It occurs when I let off the gas and am coasting at lower speeds. It is a chirping and spinning noise. It stops when I accelerate again. Any thoughts? I did have a Tacoma that did this and some grease in the u joint fixed it. enigma-2 Posted August 8, 2017 Report Share Posted August 8, 2017 Sounds like its the front brake pad thickness tab. When the pads get too thin, this tab starts to touch the rotating brake rotor, to make you it's time to put on new pads. It only happens when you are NOT braking. WWWPerfA_ZN0W Posted August 8, 2017 Report Share Posted August 8, 2017 Congrats on the new ride. Very low mileage for a 2014. Either all local driving ir sat for long periods of time or both. Not good on brake pads as they can wear out from stopngo or actually bond to the rotors while immobile. macbwt Posted August 9, 2017 Report Share Posted August 9, 2017 Rusty rotors maybe from so little operation or maybe even some rocks on the the pads. Might need to remove the brakes and clean them and relube the moving parts. I received a call from the service department today stating they are confident they found the issue: a loose axle nut. After a test drive they said there was no more noise.
