  1. I agree, my last two cars were silver.. easy to keep clean and swirl marks in the paint were invisible. I like my earth coloured 2011 but it's a pain to keep clean, and I can see minor swirls in parts of the paint. M.
  2. Looks good, I like the colour. Enjoy it.

    Oil Change

Also I had received a pamphlet from Ford Canada (Not the dealership where I purchased) and it tells you to go my the message center. The dealerships just want customer to bring in the cars early so they can earn a bit of extra money on extra oil changes. I did do my 1st change early, but I figured its the 1st change and it won't hurt anything to do it early except your pocketbook.. M.

    Oil Change

The 2011 does have the smart oil system, it's on the right hand side LCD under information -> system check -> oil life and it shows a percentage left. I did my 1st oil change at approx 10,000 kms (before the car indicated it would require a oil change I think I had approx 35-40% life left) and I'm currently at 23, 000 kms and have 27% life left. The dealerships will start sending you notifications that you need to bring the car in for service, however ford sent me a letter saying take it in when the car says, so I'm waiting for that.. M.
  5. After I reported my successful install of 2.11, the web site still showed 2.8. I waited for a couple of days and then logged into the site and it correctly showed the 2.11 update.. So I think it may take a while for the reported update to show up on the web site. M.
  6. I think they are referring to the sound menu (press the word sound on the center stack) and then scroll down, and there's a option for Speed compensated volume, 1-7 or something like that. As far as I know it just raises the volume of the radio when you reach highway speeds so you don't need to manually raise it due to wind/road noise. As far as I know it's always been there, i.e. not new to the 2.11 update.. I had it when I was still on 1.8 when I got my car. M.
  7. Ok I installed the 2.11 self install. The install took approx 40 mins.. However I had a problem when I first started the install. I plugged in the upgrade USB stick and it started the install. It started to load and then gave me a error message there wasn't enough storage. Sooo.. I thought the Index for my USB music must be eating up the space, so I did a master reset (which I found deletes the index) One the master reset was completed and sync rebooted. I plugged the upgrade USB back in, and performed the upgrade. So if anyone runs into the same problem, maybe do a master reset and then do the upgrade. So far it seems slightly faster, hopefully the intermittent phone disconnects I was experiencing (every couple of weeks it would get stuck at connecting to phone) will be resolved. M.
  8. Glad to see that you were able to perform the update, guess I will give mine a try once I get home. Kind of a waste of gas to idle for 75 mins, but i'm only guessing that the older the version you are on, the longer it will take to update. If i'm not mistaken you were on 2.7 at the start. Since i'm on 2.8 I will see how long it takes on mine.. M.
  9. I downloaded it to my USB key, 300+MB (they recommend a 1 GB key for larger, mine is 4 GB) according to the instructions it can take 45 mins to install and you should keep the engine running while doing the update. Since I'm at work, I will wait til tonight(when I get home) to install it, but I'm glad it a self install. Would be nice to hear of some successful installs before I try it on mine.. lol M.
  10. I visited the SYNC my Ride web site, and for the 1st time in the 11 months since I owned my 2011 Ford Edge LTD, It shows that a update is avaliable. I'm currently on 2.8 and doing the download onto a 4GB flash drive. Maybe this is the user installable 2.11 update? Anyone else find a update available and install it? M.
  11. I agree with the don't get a maint plan, I've had mine for almost 10 months, it's been in for service once @ approx 10,000 ($60 CAD for the service, but was free for me as part of my deal)my next service was suppose to be @ 20,000k but i'm almost there and still oil life shows 47% left. So it's pretty much service once a year. If it's 120 a year for oil changes I wouldn't bother with the maint plan.. (yes I know other services still need to be performed) M.
  12. I have this in my 2011 LTD edge, I like the colour, as mentioned its a personal taste, both me and my wife like it, and it's a huge change from the Silver on my last 2 cars. it's basically brown with gold metallic flakes in the paint. When the car is clean, and the sun is shining it looks lighter in colour, and when it's cloudy it's darker almost dark brown/black from a distance. I previewed it on a MKX before I got my limited edge.. it is a very consecutive upscale colour, so if your looking for a flashy colour I think you would want to pick something else.. M.
  13. since it says the camera is standard in limited, sport and you have a SEL I don't think it's included in that package. M.
  14. If you look at the interior of the new 2012 ford focus (with mytouch) it appears they have two buttons in the same position, the hazard button and a lock/unlock button which I presume is to lock the touch features from being activated accidentally? M.
  15. I think the keyboard can be used for NAV entry, so you can key in the street address when not moving. so you can choose either the qwerty style or the abc style for those not used to using a keyboard. M.
  16. That sounds kinda high for city driving to me. I have a 2011 Edge FWD(3.5L engine and Front Wheel Drive) , and I do 70 % highway 30% city driving, and my average is between 10/100 Kms 11/100 KMS and if it's purely highway I've seen it as low as about 8.0 or 8.5L/100 KMS. Overall not to shabby considering it's a heavy vehicle. My Overall average since buying the car 9/10 months ago is about 11 L/100kms and I have about 18000 kms on the car now. M.
  17. Nice Joke.. That pic was one of the 1st ones I had seen about a year ago..
  18. I should clarify, I don't use the Blackberry to play music in the car (I have a 16 GB USB stick with the same music in the car) The Media player application on the blackberry is not running at all, randomly when I turn off the car, which disconnects the bluetooth from the phone, the media player lauches on the phone and starts playing (it wasn't even open when I was driving around) If I do the same thing with my Jabber BT3030 just have it connected with the phone(not on a call or listening to music), and turn off the BT3030, it disconnects from the phone and the the media player doesn't launch or start playing on the phone. So it seems like randomly(at least I haven't nailed down what causes it to happen) when sync is shutting down it starts the media player on the phone, and starts playing music. I'm sure it has something to do with a buggy A/V Remote Control profile on the BT stack which sync has, as the behavior only occurs with Sync. M.
  19. Same thing happens on my BB curve 9300, it's a inconvenience and I haven't found a pattern either, I guess it's a bug in sync, never happens when I use my bluetooth from my Jabber BT3030 with the blackberry only the car.. M.
  20. Strange you lost all your presets with a fuse pull, I've pulled mine a couple of times and never lost anything. I do know if you do a master reset it does delete the phone pairing and nav setup options and door lock settings etc,, but even that I didn't lose my radio presets.. M.
  21. Yeah my BB curve 9300 starts playing when I leave the car as well.. Not sure what triggers it as most of the times I don't have that problem. Mine stays connected for the most part, usually every couple of weeks it stops connecting but I delete the phone and add it again, can't be bothered with a fuse pull. I'm on 2.8 as well. I don't usually use my phone for the music, but If I recall the only things I can do is skip to the next track and/pause, I think there is a setting somewhere to index bluetooth devices but I think bluetooth is too slow for indexing a large music library, maybe if you plug in in via USB? M.
  22. Mine is at 2.8 as well, it didn't do it from the start, just for the past 1.5 weeks or so.. I'm sure once it gets around to rebooting it will probably fix itself, just too lazy to pull the fuse.. I agree 2.8 is much better than what I had before (1.8) but i'm hoping newer versions come out with more features and better speed/stability. M.
  23. That sounds about right, however it used to cut out as soon as I put the car back in drive.. Maybe it will return back to that behavior if/when Sync reboots.. who knows.. not a biggie. M.
  24. Check which version of Sync you have, if it's earlier than 2.8 I would get it updated. I went from 1.8 to 2.8 and now it correctly says kms. M.
