  1. Of course Ford is still at fault here. I wasn't suggesting otherwise. I was only referring to whether or not Ford requiring regular fluid changes would stop the failures from occurring and I don't think it will. The only sure way to do that would be to have a temp sensor and when it exceeds the safe temp notify the owner to have it changed immediately. As for admitting fault and requiring them to pay for hundreds of thousands of cars - that's ridiculous. A warranty is warranty. Almost every part that fails prematurely on a Ford vehicle is Ford's fault. That doesn't matter. What matters is whether the vehicle is still under warranty or not. Ford isn't refusing warranty claims by saying that owners abused their vehicles. If they were then you would be absolutely right. But as far as I know if you're within the 5 yr/60K mile powertrain warranty Ford is replacing them at no charge. All Ford is doing here is not extending the warranty on these to 100K miles, which I think they should do. Whether it's internal heat buildup or something else it's still a faulty part that fails far too often. And since there doesn't seem to be a good permanent fix I think they should extend the warranty. Ford extended the warranty on the Focus tranny and TCM to 100K miles and they've done the same thing on other parts before. But to say that they're leaving a faulty part in service on purpose just to generate revenue for the dealers while killing their quality ratings and increasing their warranty costs at the same time is absolutely ridiculous. If there was an easy fix they would have already done it because it would save them money in the long run.
  2. If you think it's a safety issue you wouldn't be driving around with it not fixed. You'd pay immediately to fix it, then worry about whether you get reimbursed. I agree it should be covered by an extended warranty, but saying it should be recalled is a stretch. Door latches that break and let the door open at speed is a serious safety issue.
  3. Please check the details. The recalls are not for any Edge vehicles and they have to do with the door latch breaking, not a faulty sensor. It covers 2013-2015 Ford C-MAX 2013-2015 Ford Escape 2012-2015 Ford Focus 2015 Lincoln MKC 2015 Ford Mustang 2014-2016 Ford Transit Connect An earlier recall included Fusions, MKZs and maybe some other vehicles. Not the same problem and not the same vehicle.
  4. Take off the tin hats. Ford is also having to replace a lot of these under warranty. Only an idiot would purposely do something that costs them a lot of money in repairs, pisses off customers and gets them bad reliability ratings. The more plausible explanation is what Waldo said - it's heat buildup internally due to manufacturing tolerances and if the unit never goes over the heat threshold the fluid lasts the life of the vehicle. If it overheats it's ruined. In that case regular fluid changes would do nothing to prevent 90% of the failures. But if you're rather believe they're doing it on purpose, be my guest.
  5. If it sells more $700 nav systems it might make business sense. Amazing what competition does.
  6. Apparently you don't understand recalls. Those are only done for safety reasons. What you probably meant was they should extend the warranty on the evap cannister and purge valve and I would tend to agree. With the exception that at least some of these problems are caused by people overfilling the fuel tank. Ford shouldn't be on the hook for that.
  7. Not on an Edge. The warranty would only apply to the supported vehicles. Even though the engine is basically the same I doubt the Focus tune would work since they are completely different platforms.
  8. Also eliminates hardware. With Android Auto and Apple Carplay they may need to start offering free map updates to get people to buy the build in Nav.
  9. The reason there is no "buy now" button is because the dealers don't want it and there is nothing Ford can do about it due to automotive franchise laws. It's actually illegal for Ford to sell vehicles directly and by the same token they can't control how the dealers operate. You can use the online dealer inventory search for any zip code. It searches a 60 mile radius or so by default and you can use different zip codes for more coverage. The only downside is you can't tell for sure if the vehicle is in stock (could be in transit or recently sold) and you can't search by option package code (300A, 301A, 400A, etc.). But you can find the vehicles in the inventory.

  11. Not a recall, just a warranty replacement and a common problem on early build 2015s. Some condensation that goes away quickly is normal but in some cases it's excessive and requires a replacement.
  12. I do this all the time and as long as the wife has her fob in her purse it doesn't honk. Very strange. Maybe it's not reading her fob for some reason?
  13. There is NO recall on Edge door latches for this sensor problem. There is a recall on Fusion and other vehicles (not Edge) for door latches but that's due to the latch actually breaking and the door coming open. That happened to my Fusion last week and I got all of the latches replaced per the recall. They're not going to include the sensor failures in the recall. Good luck to you if you want to fight it but I wouldn't hold my breath. When you pay to get it fixed (which I can almost guarantee will happen) keep the receipt in case Ford does extend the recall to the Edge down the road.
  14. Just FYI - Sync 3 doesn't use SD cards. I assume the map updates will come with the software updates or via a separate usb download.
  15. BTW - my daughter has had it in both her vehicles for the last 5 years. She still refuses to use Auto mode and it drives me crazy because she doesn't have a specific reason like you just stated - she's never used it and refuses to even try it. Apparently she gets that from her mother.....
  16. I get it. All I'm saying is that auto will control both the fan speed and the vent location. If you want it to do something differently like blowing hot air from the dash or stay at low speed then you can't use auto. But sometimes people don't even try auto because they don't understand how it works. And I think normal operation does work for the vast majority.
  17. I understand it's easier to use the steering wheel buttons. I do that in my Fusion but only for temp. I think you're misunderstanding how auto works. In auto mode at 70 degrees ambient temp, if you set the temp to 65 it will blow cold air from the dash vents. If you turn it up to 85 it will blow hot air from the floor vent. So yes it does change the vent setting automatically for heat or AC. If the ambient temp is 80 and you start the vehicle with the auto mode set to 72 the fans will come on full blast trying to cool it down to 72. If you raise the auto temp up to 80 the fans will slow way down or stop altogether because you're at the target temp. You can absolutely control the fan speed using the auto temp. You may not like how it does it, but that doesn't mean it's not possible.
  18. It has never honked when you leave the fob in the vehicle with the engine running. At least mine don't.
  19. You don't need to change the vents or the fan speed in auto mode. It will automatically select the top vents for A/C and the bottom vent for heat and it will adjust the fan speed automatically. You can change the fan speed by adjusting the temp up or down. I haven't needed to use the manual A/C controls at any time in the last 10+ years. Try it. If you get in a hot car and the A/C is going full blast and you want to slow down the fans just raise the set temperature, then lower it later after the vehicle has cooled off. It works fine if you don't fight it.
  20. I wouldn't necessarily blame the assembly line. It could have been mislabeled by the supplier and as you found out yourself it's not that easy to spot immediately. Now if it was a red spoiler on a white car........
  21. Why aren't you using auto mode? Then you only have to adjust the temperature.
  22. Those may be painted offsite like bumpers - maybe they just picked up the Oxford white part by mistake. Should be easy to fix.
  23. That feature is unique to the intelligent access models with push button start. I think that's now standard on all edges.
