New My Ford Touch Software Released
akirby replied to mmcclure's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Obviously you guys expect way more from an in-car infotainment system than the average buyer and you're never going to be happy with it until you can write your own code and run your own apps. I don't see how Ford could possibly satisfy you. -
They're only design mistakes in your opinion.

The Bluetooth profile that supports that feature hasn't changed. The new cellphone providers are simply not supporting it in the new phones. There is no newer profile that the new phones support that MFT does not. I assume there are not a lot of bluetooth devices that use that feature so the cellphone providers simply aren't adding it. -

It simplifies the code and the testing. I've done it many times. It's standard operating procedure in software development. I'm not going to argue again about phones and contact photos. If you want to continue blaming Ford because cell phone manufacturers don't support specific bluetooth profiles then be my guest. And I agree that none of this should be necessary but that's water under the bridge at this point. -

MFT supports contact photos. It has been demonstrated to work with at least one new phone (by Wilson or wlepse - can't remember exactly but it was a new Windows phone) which proves that MFT supports that feature in its bluetooth implementation. But the phone also has to support it and Ford has NO control over that part. It takes two to tango. -

Common Sense as in it's common sense that MOST vehicle navigation users do not use latitude/longitude coordinates for navigation. They use a street address. It's not a commonly used feature and features that aren't commonly used get removed all the time in regular software. I'm not saying it's not a useful feature - for the few that use it. But it's certainly not something that the vast majority of users will miss. By taking it out, it simplifies the code and reduces the amount of testing required for each release. Again - this is SOP for software development. -

You mean it can't read text messages properly? -
Most cars have them on the hood also. Not sure why you think this is new. There is no "gas filler gizmo". The funnel is only used when you're pouring gas from a can. The gas pump nozzle fits right into the capless system with no problem and nothing else can get in without the funnel. There is no reason to lock it or cap it.

I can't believe you're still dinging Ford because YOUR cellphone provider chose not to support those profiles/features. Those features are available in MFT. Ford can't force cellphone providers to support it. -

Lat/long are gone - no explanation. They may have taken it out permanently or it may just be temporary. You'll just have to wait and find out. -
They only issue recalls for safety related problems and this doesn't fall in this category. It doesn't matter how many fail. And just because it's a known problem that doesn't mean it should be fixed under warranty after the warranty period expires. If you want added warranty protection you have the option of purchasing it at any time until the 3/36 warranty expires. If you choose not to purchase additional warranty protection you should not complain about something not being covered. If Ford was supposed to cover every known problem on every vehicle then they'd have to raise the vehicle cost accordingly.

Absolutely not in both cases. The PCM is a piece of electronics. They fail due to a fault in the circuit board or one of the components or because it got wet, etc. Other than getting it wet or shorting it out you can't cause it to go bad. Are you sure the 17" tires are smaller? They can have a smaller wheel diameter but maintain the overall circumference in which case the speedo won't be off. Find a tire size calculator and check both sizes. Even if they are smaller it won't hurt the warranty. The only wheel/tire related problem would be a bearing failure from running wheels that are too large/too heavy.

Since it does it with the key off I would suspect the starter relay is sticking.

Software Revisions/Extended Warranty Coming... Again!
akirby replied to blankster's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
In this case they went with BSquare - a company made up of former Microsoft employees. I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time but you can be sure they won't make that mistake next time. -

They outsourced all that to professional software engineers for just that reason. They just picked bad ones apparently. -
MFT report your successful installations or problems
akirby replied to exodus's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Careful - you can brick your system if you don't have some of the previous updates already installed. This is why they want the dealer to do it so they can check that. -
The straight answer is no, it still can't be done.
-
That's been available for a few months already.

The air filter has nothing to do with fuel mileage in modern vehicles. You can put a cloth diaper in there and your mileage can actually improve (although power will suck).
-
According to the website it's only available on the Limited. I don't understand it either.

Do you have the outside temperature displayed at the top center? If so you already have this update. Either way you should register at syncmyride.com and you can see your current version and any pending updates. There is a dealer installed update that is just now being released. You should probably just have the dealer do that upgrade once it's available. Nav models may not get it until February but it does require a new SD card for maps.
