That light is not a "battery" light - it's a charging system light. It means the alternator is not putting out enough current to keep the battery charged. It could just be a loose belt or the alternator itself could be bad. It could be the battery but you need to get the alternator checked - if it's bad it will kill the new battery too.

OMG - my head just exploded!

Actually a black interior will show trash and other particles much more than a light color. Black is harder to keep clean. I'm planning to order a Ruby Red with black interior anyway as I'm tired of light colored interiors.

Not feasible. Too many things aren't there (sensor, software, etc.).

You'll get used to the keypad and after a few weeks you won't even notice it.

Understood but even a $200K Ferrari has plastic parts. Ours are 4.5 years old and they look brand new. A lot of people are using this technique to chrome plate plastic engine parts (intakes, etc.). To me it's better technology, not cheap
-
The b pillar mounted keypad is relatively new and will be added to each vehicle as they're redesigned. The Edge isn't up for a redesign for another year or two.
-
It's not a downgrade - they actually cost MORE to mfr. If you don't like them then fine, but don't make it sound like it was a cheap-out. Wheels are super easy to swap out and I'm sure there are folks looking to buy replacements for damaged wheels.
-
They're aluminum wheels underneath but the exposed surface is plastic plated with real chrome. These wheels actually cost more than regular chrome plated steel wheels so it's not done because they're cheap. It's done because they're lighter and they do not pit like chrome plated steel wheels over time. The only downside is that they can't yet be easily repaired if they're damaged. Otherwise they're fine. And they're used by many auto mfrs, not just Ford.

Most cars have them on the hood.

I think you meant "advance timing", not retard it, with premium. But that only works if the engine is programmed to advance the timing to take advantage of it. The EB engines are but not all of the non EB engines are setup this way. If the owner's manual says premium can be used then it is, otherwise it probably isn't and using premium won't help.

Only when they break which is usually never.

Waldo said you'd have to relearn each position when you rotate the tires in order for the computer to know the correct location for each sensor. He didn't say it couldn't be done. Obviously Ford took the cheaper way out to comply with the Federal requirements so they don't have as robust a system as others. Ford has a lot of other electronic features that the competition doesn't have like keyless entry keypads, etc. This would be an area where Lincoln could further separate itself from Ford.

MFT report your successful installations or problems
akirby replied to exodus's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
When did you get this? I didn't think they were sending these out to customers. -
The "Seriously" part was just to reinforce that there is no way to find out the actual pressure or which tire is low. I agree it's silly not to provide that information. I don't remember if Ford's implementation doesn't know the actual pressure (the sensor is just a pass/fail sensor) or the sensor location or if it knows and just doesn't report it. One model (can't remember which one) even tells you when you're reached the correct pressure while filling the tire by honking the horn.
-
You put a gauge on each one and read it, then refill it as needed. Seriously.
-
Are you sure that was Ford's response and not just the dealer's response? Sometimes the dealer gives bad information. Not saying that's definitely the case but I would either check with a different dealer or check with Ford corporate. I can't believe Ford would not do something to accomodate this repair under warranty even if there was a parts shortage.

"Parking break lead" error with navigation
akirby replied to Andrew Kearney's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Get the pioneer model number and check the owner's manual online to see what that wire controls and how it should be used. Should be able to disconnect it or rewire it to get it working. -
"Parking break lead" error with navigation
akirby replied to Andrew Kearney's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
First, it's Parking Brake, not Break. Sorry but that's one of my pet peeves. It sounds like they rigged the switch to the parking brake to make the head unit think the parking brake was engaged to enable video. You said Pioneer - is this the factory system or an aftermarket system? I think you're on your own either way. -
New My Ford Touch Software Released
akirby replied to mmcclure's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Many MFT owners had their APIMs replaced for similar symptoms and at least one had the same problems with the replacement APIM. The 3rd one worked like a charm. And I never said there weren't ALSO software problems. I just think you have a flaky APIM to go along with the flaky software and that's why you continue to have problems when most everyone else isn't. 2012 Focus w/MFT. Purchased December 2011. Satisfied? So you don't want to pay a few hundred bucks for a new cell phone but you paid $40K for a new Edge because it had smartphone like features? Good grief..... -

Meanwhile others seem to have no problems. I still think you have flaky hardware. There are bugs that could cause phone sync problem so I'm not ruling that out but when you're talking about features that work fine for some phones and don't work for others it's pretty clear that's on the cell phone provider. -

That's the new map data. They (the map companies) probably don't want owners downloading and updating the map data - too easy to copy. -

It's not childish or unprofessional (not that professionalism is a requirement here). You're complaining about features that the vast majority of MFT owners don't use or care about. It sounds like you bought a $30K+ vehicle just because it could display contact photos and read text messages. Why is this such a deal breaker? -
