  1. Not sure it will work for the TV since there is no audio passthru unless you intend on using the box just to unlock the video ports in the console. I did contact the manufacturer and they confirmed that the the voice and hang up buttons still function normally regardless of whether the override is on or off. I forgot to ask if I turn it on does it stay on until turned off or does it revert to stock on power cycle. Still wish it had the iPad/Pod interface but I guess I can deal with that. And this would be much easier for those who want to do the front cam like you did...should be plug and play. Honestly this was really important to me since the MFT is sketchy and don't want to give Ford any reason not to cover things.
  2. I don't know if anyone else is still looking into this but just noticed that Coastaletech finally has their MFT system released. http://coastaletech.com/mytouch.htm Allows you to add a few cams and unlock all features of the MFT in motion. I might have to give this a shot since we have so much trouble with the voice activation. Just read through the install pdf and noticed they have an option for automatic front camera. Looks pretty interesting and might be another reason for me to get this since the wifey can't park this thing reliably. One thing missing I was hoping for was the iPad/pod control/ display. I am guessing this was not added since Apple is changing the connector port but I would have thought they could have made it a connector on the module and you just purchased the cable you needed for a particular device.
  3. Oh man...my original comment is a bit off. From the pics I thought I was looking at the inside of a tire dismounted from the rim and thought those marks were from them installing/removing the tire. As for the rim finish being beat up a little I wouldn't worry about it unless it really bothers you. If so you can always try something like plastidip which would be cheap and easy to try...and reversible or if you want it done professionally you can get someone to powder coat them for you.
  4. tough to tell from your pics but based on the location it is likely from installing/dismounting the tires from the rim. They often use a special pry bar to get the bead over the rims edge. If you are concerned about it just mention it to your installer and have them check it out. I don't see any gouges or exposed belts that would concern me.
  5. Thanks for the info...might have to check with the dealer on the price. I made one of these but the wife's oversized sunglass case could use another inch or so clearance. This might just do the trick.
  6. The hardware is the same with the exception of the steering wheel controls...or at least that is what I read somewhere. Still don't know why they couldn't just replace whatever the buttons do with voice commands.
  7. Yeah I just had another bad experience with the nav. This is the second time I have had it route us in completely different ways depending on the direction of travel. Today we took my little guy down to see Thomas the Train and the routing there was terrible. I'll give you it got us there in about the same amount of time as coming back, but a good 50% of the roads were old oil and stone country roads with 35mph limits. It then put us on Rt 80 for a bit then slightly better county roads. On the way back it was all county roads with 45-50mph limits and seemed much more direct. Even though the route was better on the way home the system stopped giving any prompts...no voice no tones. I just really can't trust this system and can't comprehend how Ford can't get this right after all this time. Just so dissapointing.
  8. Change was made to the hub bore, I think for the 2011 on they went to a smaller hub. So if Mike took yours and wanted to use them he would need to get yours machined and you would need to get hub centric rings for the 18's. But do a little research first on the rings...I think I remember reading people had problems finding one to adapt the 2010 and earlier. Don't remember if the size wasn't available or just out of stock at the time. But worst case you might have to have them machined to another size you can get.
  9. Oh yeah used to see it daily on 2.11. The day I upgraded, actually about 20 minutes after ours crashed but has only had a handful of crashes since then. So much better than before but still way more crashes than there should be.
  10. Wow found out something interesting today...search for POI along route is available but I can only seem to gt there via voice commands. So the feature is there but unfortunately it didn't work well as it couldn't find any gas stations along the route even though there were five in the next mile. I'll have to play with it some more to see if I can get it working right. As a side note today the MFT crashed, was a sad day since we have had far less issues since the rewrite. While not a perfect set up it has at least been reasonable, just hoping it isn't making a turn in the wrong direction...hoping the reboot cleared out any crap that was causing a problem.
  11. Any word on this? Haven't seen anything and I can never get the status checker to download to see if they say something is available. Just wondering if anyone has had better luck.
  12. Yeah that is what I figured based off the wiring since he is piggybacking on the reverse input. While I wouldn't want it coming on every time you slow down I would like the ption to turn it on without going into reverse. I was thinking this might help the wife since after 9 months she still can't park it very well. But I guess to be honest either we'd have a button she have to hit to engage or put it in reverse. So for her the reverse thing is probably the easiest.
  13. Go to google maps and search out your destination, on the left side you'll see several options...directions, search nearby, save to map and more. Click more and then select send. In that window pick send to car then select car and most important you have to use the number linked to sync services. Then hit send and it will confirm it was sent. When you get in the car and phone is synced, hit the voice button and say services then just follow the prompts and it will set the point on the map. From there you can either touch the screen button to set as destination or hit voice button again and speak command.
  14. I would think so if it had the same video signal. Spacy73...does the camera only work if the vehicle was previously in reverse? Seems like you would have to enable the input on MFT by going into reverse then when you go into drive the relay switches inputs.
  15. I too get very frustrated with the nav, its lack of features and user friendliness compared to a cheap portable GPS unit. I can rarely get it to take a destination by voice commands but since we have bad backroung noise on phone calls I wonder if the mic performance affects the recognition. But beyond that frustration I have also noticed that the whole voice system needs an overhaul. In some places you can speak a number the way you normally would, and other times you have to say each number as a string...meaning if the address is two hundred forty five main street you need to say two four five main street. Even when I do it the way it wants it is hit and miss. As DellDell mentioned I have resorted to sending the addresses from Google and just say services when I get in and in a minute or so it is done. Since we are talking about nav issues...does anyone know how select a POI along the route? I can't seem to figure this out. On my cheapo portable it is simple, there is a button just for POI along route and it even indicates how far off route. I found this feature helpful on long trips since we could all decide we were going to take a break in a set time period then look up the road for food and gas. But the MFT only seems to do nearby or in a city. The city would work if I knew where I was but if I did I wouldn't need the GPS.
  16. I suspect it comes down to makinf sure they can recover the costs from Ford...and that Ford Corp has tightened things up since this MFT issue has cost them a fortune. Though what concerns me is I haven't ever really heard anyone mention a diagnostic mode in these things or any hardware tests that can be done to confirm if there is a fault. Seems like there is no good way to confirm any component is bad other than outright failures.
  17. They look like they are in good condition but unfortunately they aren't a match to ours. GLWS though.
  18. Hope you enjoy the Edge and the forum
  19. Do you have any more pics? Can't tell if it is just the angle or not but they look a little different than our 18's. If they are the same it might be worth it to us to get a spare set for snows and in case the wifey curbs one.
  20. As Dingo mentioned you can use an inverter and it won't void your warranty. Just be careful that you read the labels carefully. Most will quote the surge capacity most prominently, the smaller wattage rating is the what it can output constantly. While most have controls built in to keep you from running down your battery you are better off running the car just to be safe. It seems the quality of these units is very hit and miss even within the same brand so I don't trust the safety features. One other recommendation is to try her nebulizer on it before you leave. Most of these units put out a modified sine wave and some electronics don't like it. I would think the nebulizer would be fine but that isn't something you want to take a risk with. Also as Dingo mentioned I wouldn't worry about towing. While the Edge wouldn't be my first choice to do some heavy towing, what you are describing is well within the capabilities of the vehicle. Just go out and enjoy some time with your daughter. As a side note, does your vehicle make a hooting noise while turning right especially at slow speed? If so there is a TSB for that and all they have to do is bend a heat shield. We had it done to ours. No problems since.

Interested to see what these look like at night
  22. I set an alarm in my phone to remind me just in case but have never had an issue in the past. But I will say that was with XM prior to the merger so maybe they have changed their policies.
