Sometimes it is helpful but sometimes ignorance is bliss. I think Ford still has a long way to go with this update. Hopefully my reboot 20 minutes in was a fluke and stability will be much improve, then they can focus on getting the functionality to work 100%.

Post Upgrade Navigation Question
wlepse replied to jeffdelta's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Mine is a lot better but oddly it does vary. Today I noticed in some places it was almost dead on and others it was lagging, not sure if this map data related, signal strength or something else was using the processor so it was lagging. But at least now I find the GPS to be useable. -
My Ford Touch update Installed!!
wlepse replied to Candy Edge's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Well not just me...seems a lot are still having issues hence a site deicated to bugs. But the vehicle has to go in for another oil change and a bunch of TSB's so I will have them check it then. But I really don't think it is the APIM. It was replaced once before with no change in stability so I think it must be something else. Since a few months ago our USB HDD stopped working I am starting to wonder if there is a hub issue, just would have thought the SD card was on the same port to the APIM, but maybe someone can confirm this. Got to rive around today a bit and didn't have any crashes but this program is far from being right. Sometimes the entertainment tab shows info sometimes not, sometimes you can use the space bar other not, BT audio is still useless and seems to currupt the FM display if I chose that next, but if you go from FM to AM and back you'll have a display again. Since it is repeatable it must be a bug. Nav data is updated but oddly added a road that has never been there, at least not in the last 20+ years. But on the good side, the nav location does seem much more accurate and in places where I used to get the red X over GPS I don't anymore. Also the background noise on calls is greatly reduced. Still not perfect but it is no longer difficult to hold a conversation with someone in the car. -

I 100% agree. I found the MFT display easier to read due to better contrast than the cluster plus it is very useful to passengers. But I could live without this if they fixed the stability issues...unfortunately I don't think it is any better. -
Mine is set to 2 so I don't think that is the cause. Also found this so I must not be the only one: http://bugs.outofmytouch.com/issues/24

MFT report your successful installations or problems

Anybody in the NNJ area have a fully functional MFT that might be able to meet up one day? I see lots of posts where people find the system is running smooth and working well and I am just wondering if I am expecting more if mine really does suck. Hoping to play around with it this weekend and see if USB drives work again as well as play with the BT audio and see if there is some setting on the phone I need to change. -
Really? Mine still makes big sound level jumps per click and only registers every other one on the level meter. I'll hopefully get to play with it some more this weekend but so far ours is still terrible.

My Ford Touch New Software Release

I believe the issue is with making a copy. I think they have some DRM on it so you can't copy it or at least not correctly. -

Sadly I think your uncle was right. I only got to play with it on my drive home but in that short window the system crashed. When it wasn't crashed I did find several oddities and unfortunately the wife just called and said it was acting "funny." I really hope there is something wrong with my system that Ford can fix but I am at my wits end with this stupid thing. If they don't figure this out quick I think it is going to cost Ford big time. -
I hear you there...at one point I was going to run a side business doing installs and some basic maintenance work for people but didn't think there would be enough business to actually create one to protect myself.

MFT report your successful installations or problems

Mine has always done that too but thought maybe they did it on purpose since it has only been that far off on the home address. But I do know for sure a street that was added in my town about 2 years ago is now on the map. So they have updated data to some degree...how much is unknown. -

The maps are updated...how much I couldn't say but there are definitely roads on this version I didn't have before. Didn't say they didn't fix something, just saying that some things are basic and honestly should never have been there to begin with. Also I would have hoped to have gotten more than 20 minutes before the first crash and that I wouldn't have noticed so many bugs in the 30 minutes I had to play with the system. Now if it were just me having issues I would be all for saying it is something in my system but it seems (as Akirby posted) that many are having issues. Just seems like this rewrite was poorly executed again. -

No honestly I didn't have the time. This isn't my DD so I am usually only in it on weekends. But I will give it a shot but honestly from past experience this did nothing to help. Just so disappointed that I didn't even get 30 minutes of run time before it crashed. I too agree there has to be something else wrong but I honestly have no faith in Ford right now. Also saw your post after this and agree you do need to make a decision at some point to release and patch later, but am disappointed that the beta testing should have been done early January which left about two months to clear some things up. And in all honesty many of these things I mentioned are easy fixes to the screens. This wouldn't take much time at all and would have provided a much more polished look. -

Wow the drive home left me severely dissapointed with Ford and this "update." Not more than 20 minutes into the the ride the system locked, then I had a black screen for a few minutes then it rebooted. This sucks. Can't even say I am impressed with anything else in the system either. Seems like they slapped this together and it lacks any sort of polish to the GUI. Not only do they seem to display the wrong (at least in my opinion) items in large font and the stuff I want in small font, they can't make up their mind on what fonts to use. To me that is GUI 101. For instance the font size on the top two quadrants is larger than the bottom two tabs. Also noticed the cluster displays still randomly chooses which sources you can select with the wheel controls. I always have AM/FM, CD and Sirius. Sometimes I get AV input and BT but never get USB or SD. The first time I select BT it says it is connecting to phone but does nothing. The next time you try it starts playing but I have no control over what it plays and no artist/song info is displayed. Also confirmed that even after you shut the car off completely it still doesn't close the player on the phone. Also confirmed that the FM frequency display dissapears if I go to BT and back. But if I go to AM and back to FM it returns. Also noticed that the nav position seems to vary from being a little less accurate than my portable units to being 50 feet off. Not sure why. I had noticed on the old software we would get random indications there was no GPS signal so maybe these were areas where the signal was marginal. But if that is the case either the antenna has to be bad or the system is horrible since we have no tall buildings and there are no leaves on the trees yet. I have a hard time believing none of these things were noticed in the beta testing. I still can't understand why the rewrite took this long, I have been the PM on several big jobs that included validated software systems with data logging and 21CFR Part 11 compliance with a lot less resources and it was done quicker. Just way beyond disillusioned with Ford right now. -

Well the wife claims the call clarity is better though not perfect, honestly I would have to have her call me so I really know. But she did claim that the background noise was pretty much non existent. I'll play with voice recognition some more on the way home. Does anyone know if they fixed the issue when you ask it to call someone and it randomly picks one of the numbers associated with that person? Has anyone seen the other issues I mentioned above? Still don't know how I got the browse feature once for BT audio but I guess it doesn't matter since it didn't work anyway. Also never got any meta data transferred, just a blank screen with gigantic buttons. Also noticed the button sizing was somewhat schizofrenic. Most are huge as if they think we are legally blind or have sausage fingers then some like the back buttons are half my finger tip size. -

Well just got to play with the update some at lunch and I am not impressed. They still have button tags over running the space, sometimes FM frequency is displayed in huge numbers other times not at all. For some reason they thought it was a good idea to make the RBDS info really small and radio frequency huge...go figure would much prefer the other way around. Tried to use BT streaming and it is useless. Only once did I ever get any options to allow me to browse the music and even then it indicated nothing was there but continued to play. No messages indicating indexing or anything. Then when I switched back to FM the phones player remains on but paused. Voice recognition is ready to listen much quicker but is still terrible at recognizing what you want. Not sure I like that when the navigation has a route you lose some space at the top of the screen for the next instruction, would prefer this to be on the side only. On a good note it seems as if the phone noise is decreased a bit and nav positioning seems pretty damn close. Just hope they have fixed the causes of the crashes and they can fix these other things later. -

Did the install this morning on the way to work. Took around 45 mins and all seemed to go well. Haven't had a chance to play with it much but I am not sure I like the new font and size as much as the old one. But if it doesn't crash I can get used to it. -
Good to know. When i was working with the Ford CS manager he made it sound like there were different files or programs loaded on nav cars so I wasn't sure.
-
Did you have to use the USB stick to install missing files or was everything contained from the D/L on the SMR site? Just worried that when I go there they have a Nav, No Nav selection and wasn't sure if the installer would look to see what version was installed before proceeding.
-
OK had another big MFT meltdown this weekend so I am planning on installing the upgrade sans navigation for now. But can anyone who has done this confirm that when the package arrives or when the dealer completes the upgrade all the files load correctly? Just wanted to make sure the auto install process isn't tied to a general MFT app which may cause it to think I am fully updated.

What is everyone paying for Sirius these days?
wlepse replied to RJG's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I just got the offer in the mail for 1 yr at $86, with taxes it came to just over 100 bucks. When I asked about travel services the total came to ~$180. I decided to hold off for a better deal or just hope that with the rewrite of the MFT software I'll be able to use a hard drive again. -
What about the caliper mount? You mentioned you did some machining work...was this to the original mounts you are modifying or to fab new ones all together?
-
Hold up...1k for fronts only or 1k for all four corners? Where are you sourcing the parts?
-
Well for just 60 bucks you could be the beta tester and let everyone know. http://www.beachcamera.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=SDSDU064GA11

Some do but this is fixable. The one I have has a device that tightens the rack to the hitch pin taking the wobble out. Even with two heavy DH bikes there was no movement. But yes get a good rack. Recently I saw a rack made by Kuat that looked very impressive and it is made of aluminum so you don't have to worry about rust and it is much lighter if you plan on putting it on/taking it off a lot. Also be careful about your hitch that you purchase. I bought one that was supposed to fit a 2011 but didn't fit well, so do your homework.
