HIDs for Father's Day.
fishx65 replied to wannabang's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
Looks like a nice kit KC. Lifetime warranty on the ballasts is very nice and I hope they prove durable and sell well for you. -
Maybe hit it with a good spray lube and see if the sound goes away and for how long. I would guess the strut bearings are getting dry or going bad.

2011 with 48,000 miles. Looks like I need about 1 quart to get it up to the Cold fill line. Think it's OK to just add a quart of distilled water?

If ya can't replace defective parts yourself on the side of a road in the middle of the night, make sure your harness has dual relays so the chance of losing both headlights at the same time is remote. It might be kinda tough driving at night without headlights!!!! I think the Morimoto harness has dual relays and fuses. I run a DDM 35/5000 kit that has been pretty reliable but I did have a ballast die after 18 months of use. DDM did send me a new one after inspecting the defective unit. -
An Amateur's Review of Meguiar's NXT 2.0
fishx65 replied to Cougarpaw99's topic in Appearance - Detailing, Wash & Wax
Zaino Z2 and Duragloss 105 are both awesome products at the same price point as NXT. NXT looks fine but only lasts a few weeks. I prefer Zaino because of how easy it goes on and off plus it lasts a few months longer then 105. My old bottle of NXT does ATV duty. -

Might work well in the Taurus's halogen projectors or might not. One thing to consider is the reliability of all these cheap Chinese hid kits. If I lose a ballast, bulb or relay I can pull over in the middle of the night and change a part with the spares I carry or put the halogens back in. Can your Dad do that???????? -
3Five or 5Five TRS Kit

I would jump on the Hidplanet forum to see if TRS is still having issues with their ballasts before you order. -
Safe to Go for Automatic Car Wash with AVS In-Channel Vent Visors

Besides losing the rear windshield wiper arm cover, the visors will get scratched up pretty good.- 6 replies

If you are gonna keep a vehicle in the rust belt for a long time, it's worth rustproofing yourself or taking it in to have done. I also applied a thin layer of undercoating which I touch up each fall. 3M makes a pretty good rustproofing product for inside the hood and door seams. I'm sure manufactures could do a better job when it comes to rust protection but I don't think they ever will.

Cleaning your windshield
fishx65 replied to Vortechtral's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
I would not use a Magic eraser for fear of scratching the glass. Really soak it with a quality glass cleaner and use 2 or 3 clean microfiber towels. Super clean microfibers are the ticket. -
Dealership gave me a new emblem today which I'm gonna install myself. I want to try and seal the back seam with silicone before I install it so salt spray can't get under the clear coating. These newer ones are just plastic junk!!!!!
-
Had mine replaced under warranty last summer and less then a year later the new one is doing the same thing. Gonna hit the dealership next week and see if they will replace it again even though I'm now past 36,000 miles. I would guess the damage is caused by salt spray but I never had this problem with my F150's.

DDM Warranty
fishx65 replied to fishx65's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
Funny you say that cuz I did order another complete kit. I have it stored in the spare tire compartment. As we say in upper Michigan " I ain't no Idiot!" -
Just thought I'd post this since so many on here are using DDM hid kits. I had a ballast go bad after about 18 months of service and decided to try my luck having it replaced. They do insist that you send the bad unit in for testing which will set ya back about 6 bucks. Email response was very quick and I had a new ballast, shipped from China, in about 3 weeks. Very happy with the way DDM handled this!!!!!!

2011edgese, how many miles are on your 2011? Wondering if I should take a look at mine.

I drive a 2011 Edge and a 2013 MKX. The Lincoln definitely has a cushier ride by a good margin and the steering has more power assist. Lincoln has always tuned their suspensions for a softer ride compared to their Ford counterparts. At age 49, I think I'm becoming an old Geezer cuz I prefer a softer ride over better handling these days.
-
Very nice! The MKX rides smoother and the cabin is much quieter then the Edge.
-
Yup. Just make sure you grab everything including the white plastic brackets, screws and black strips. Gimp's instructions on the first page of this thread are really good.
-
I'm sure you can find someone on here that will trade you their black strips for your strips and rails. I did this with a fellow member and we were both happy campers. We just just took them off and shipped them to each other the same day.

I can't even remember what color my Edge is!!!!!!!

They are not needed on your Edge. If you're interested in learning more about Hids, Hidplanet forums is a good place to spend some time. TRS (Morimoto) owns the website but they talk about all the brands including DDM. Lots of Internet cops on there that frown on putting Hids in halogen projectors but they really do work well in the Edge projectors.
