Could be the catalytic converter has gone bad, but no it is not necessary to replace both together, in theory.

Electrical Question...(i think)
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to CMcEntire's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
A Solar BA7 type tester can determine battery health, or have it checked out at your local auto parts store. They should have digital testers. Pull the negative battery cable for 40+ minutes. This will force everything to reset, and the PCM to relearn your driving style. Should at least solve the fuel tank level issue. -
Welcome! Yes the water pump issue will be there on all 3.5/3.7L VCT and Ti (twin independent) VCT engines. Your best friend is regular maintenance. Coolant flush every 5yrs/60K miles on the outside. You can use Peak/Prestone/Zerex Universal Extended Life, or Motorcraft Orange. Does not matter too much, the regular coolant flush is more important. Transmission - 5 yr/60K miles PTU - 2.5 yr/30K miles RDU - 5 yr/60K miles Engine oil - IOLM is fine, as long as you do not drive the Edge HARD. Any full synthetic that meets API SN standards will be OK, Castrol Edge is one of the better ones. That said, buying a used vehicle, always start with fresh fluids, no matter the mileage.

Welcome and congrats! There have been a few attempts at this type of setup. Since you are already a "modder" you know leaving the filters open to the engine bay does not make for good performance. It is basically a CAI from factory. Xtra and snmjim would be the top of my list to follow regarding mods. But definitely quite a few people have helped move this platform along.

Dealerships can't get away with ANYthing these days, LOL.

Strange, it works for me just fine. And I am sure they will. Custom work always takes longer, so you will have budget time/money accordingly.

The baster method is just fine, 100% replacement is not needed. IDK the quality of the Motomaster, but it is probably ok. But some fluids ARE better than others, and the Valvoline just might make the difference. I would give it a go. Good idea to check tensioner and belts now that you mention it You don't have enough mileage on your Edge for those items to have a problem, but you never know!

Sweet! Definitely opt for the Cerakote to a) save your PTU, and b) to improve longevity esp in rust belt states. Can you get the coating in multiple colors, or "any color as long as it is black"?

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
What year, Edge or MKX? The specs you need are in this document https://drive.google.com/open?id=1zoiEoyh882FksshZHFjdSkWwtrQN-z9a -
Can't argue with that!

Has an oil change been done already? Any signs of PTU fluid leaks? Hopefully it is not bad enough to require a compression test! But if you drive short distances, there could well be carbon buildup on the back of the intake valves causing issues. More commonly, I would look to a spark plug or fuel injector issue if there IS an issue with them. Simplest way to begin the diagnosis is to pull the plugs and inspect them for normal telltale signs that there is too much or too little fuel, oil ingestion, etc. See if there is one cylinder that "stands out".

Replacement of a pulley of the generator. Resource?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to EDST777's topic in 3.5L
ok, so no need to run fuel injection system cleaning, since you do it regularly. yes, the throttle body could be an issue. You can track it to see how it is responding through the ETC and APP PIDs and graph them. You can also remove the TPS from the throttle body and inspect it for wear/carbon tracking. -
NO SOUND and NO LOCK OR UNLOCK
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to DavidRey123's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Welcome! How old is the battery in your Edge, and has it been tested for CCA's? Similarly, have you tried new batteries in the fobs? I hope you got 2 keys with your Edge ... The only problem is audio? No problems with any other function? Do you have the 4" screen or the 8" screen? If you like you can post a pic for clarification. Also, what trim level is your Edge? Check for outstanding recalls, service deals, etc. at https://owner.ford.com -
How many miles on your Edge? Plugs/coils ever been serviced? Did you try clearing codes, and if so, did it return? If it returned, replace all the plugs and the pcv valve along with that #2 injector at minimum. It is a matter of when not if that injector will fail completely. Also make sure the coils look fine visually, and have acceptable resistance readings. Otherwise, the PCM would be at risk. On a temporary basis, you can try Techron Concentrate Plus or BG 44K to clear out any deposits in the injectors.

Replacement of a pulley of the generator. Resource?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to EDST777's topic in 3.5L
Could be related to the generator. Could be the engine is not handling engine load correctly. You can use Forscan to track alternator behavior, just like you do fuel trims / oxygen sensors / etc. Look to see how much voltage the generator is putting out under varying load conditions. If it dips below 13.5V while driving, and does it frequently, you definitely have a problem. This should NOT cause engine vibration. Engine vibration can be caused by increase in rpm to compensate for A/C cycling ON, however. Have you run fuel system cleaner through the engine yet? I am wondering if there is injector clogging or leaking that might be contributing to uneven engine performance, or even starting to clog the converter. -
Yeah, data that specific will likely be in Ford's possession and guarded zealously/jealously
