  1. I was able to get the oil changed at 268,400 miles. The oil sample was collected and mailed off. Should have it soon by next week. I have made some video of the beginning of the process and the sample collection. The young man collecting it for me was more than happy to be in the video. Youth....... On another note refueled and got 20.3 mpg (some idle time) also with a strong wind for about half of the drive today. Overall this Ford Edge has remained rather consistant for me in the mileage catagory. The winds were strong enough that at time on hills at 75mph the tranny was gear hunting.
  2. Apparently the Ford Dealer does not know what the issue is. You would think they would rule out the battery merely by replacing it.
  3. Keep in mind tire and rim size also make a difference. Unsprung weight increase from the very large rims then add low profile tires that can not absorb the bumps like the small rim with larger tire set up. You give up ride quality for the look not to mention tire life/mileage and even gas mileage.
  4. Looks like you are doing the work with hand tools and I know that is not fun. Impact and air tools turn this job around and make it so much easier. Keep at it you are almost there. You will feel happy about it once you are done.
  5. I know this topic or issue has come up and I bet Ford Service could be of some help if they are watching this forum. Trica (Ford Service) WWWPerfA_ZN0W or Akirby any ideas?
  6. I think you will have to accept the fact that your car will be sitting outside for a while and maybe moved further and further to the back lot with the wholesale vehicles and destroyed waiting for disposition vehicles. Fact is it is not their car and is nothing more than a hinderance and problem they wish they could get rid of.
  7. When I completely rebuilt the front suspension on my 2008 Edge the sway bar links were cut off rather then messing with them. The Outer Tie rod ends were removed and replaced with new ones since I had the whole thing being replaced. One of those items that you do since you are already there and tearing it apart. (note: take it immediately to the alignment shop) You may find it handy to remove the strut bolts also and this should provide even more moving room to remove and replace the shaft. Makes me wish I had the idea to video wha I did at the time and would have most likely helped you out a lot on this job. You are on the right track.
  8. Truely no one knows. I have researched this just the same and most say any where from failing immediately to "I wonder how long this thing will work?" I guess I am in the later part of that statement.
  9. Impressive job, well done. How hard is it to get at and change out the fan/blower motor? Mine is making some small noise when it is running and it has many many hours of running.

    3.5L PCV Valve

Interesting. The PCV video has been viewed in 27 states and 10 countries.
  11. Larry I believe you are reading his statement incorrectly. He was referencing the fact that my power steering fluid has 260k miles on it well past the 150k recommendation.
  12. Just curious does anyone know how long an alternator will last? Debating on if in the near future I might want to consider changing it out before it fails. In other words on my timeline rather than while out on the road.
  13. Fun times removing the plastic wheel well cover. The tensioner is the hardest part if you remove that.
  14. Not sure what has changed over the years, but remember when the new models were on the lots the prior Sept/Oct of the model year it actualy was? Things seem to have changed in a large swing in the opposite direction now.
  15. Great color choice. It will last seemingly forever with good maintenance.
  16. I filled up today and hit 22mpg. Yesterday with wind I was running 19 mpg. I under estimated my driving for this week by over 300 miles. Go figure. I will reach my 5k oil change by Tuesday. I however will be unable to change it till Thursday so I will get the oil sample taken and sent in on Thursday. Then we can all see how the engine is doing or if I need to get the shovel and start digging a hole....makes you wonder what will the verdict be? Is it spinning bearings or ready for race day........ Hummm.
  17. Fact K&N filter (one) = 268,000 miles + cost savings on filters and engine runs great. Sort of throws that idea on it's head that K&N is bad for your engine. No I do not promote more HP nor do I promote more fuel mileage. I just promote the amount of money I saved not buying air filters all the time.
  18. Ford has recalled the latches but only for the POLICE versions guess the rest of you are out of luck.
  19. Opps one small thing. Gas tank recall you may wish to think about this first.
  20. Concur 87 and never a problem except for the one time I.....never mind we won't go into that. LOL Hint: Aviation fuel not a recommended choice.
  21. I would think if the maintence was done you will get at least another 100k out of it. Then again my opinion is rather biased as my 08 Edge has nearly 268,000 miles on it.
  22. I put the autozone brand ceramic pads and high carbon steel rotors on my wifes trailblazer (all four wheels). She is all gas then all brake if you you know what I mean? I like them so much that I may install them on my edge depending on how it is doing when the time comes.
  23. To reduce dust your best bet is to go with ceramic pads and they last a lot longer than semi metalic and are quieter. You will however need to upgrade your rotors to high carbon steel quality rotors as the ceramic pads are very tough on steel. I did this with my wifes truck and boy are they some smooth quiet brakes and great for heavy city driving like she does.
  24. Not all tires are equal. Try Bridgestone Alanza Ecopias for summer and then switch to Blizzaks for winter. You will be glad you did.

    Coolant Leak

My special tool to remove the stretch belt was a pair of hose scissors. Not really a special tool. The special tool to install was two zip ties. Just sayign simple process as far as a stretchy belt. As far as water pumps. Mine has 267,000 miles on it...........
