Cleaning wax off black plastic parts
enigma-2 replied to 1004ron's topic in Appearance - Detailing, Wash & Wax
You can cleaned dryed wax off plastic or rubber by cleaning with mineral spirits on a microfiber towel. If stuck on, use a tooth brush with mineral spirits. -

Whatcha mean I can't say it, suker? So out the garage, turn on the unit and yup, have to say "radio" <doink> 100.3 FM <doink> and "then" it changes. Oh well, never liked FM anyway. <g> -

Outstanding write-up Waldo. I learned a lot. The Sync is contained in the APIM and not in the ACM; right? Btw, (I apologize for running this thread in a tangent), I have sync commands for the climate control, but it comes back and tells me that the hardware is not available. HVAC module or something else? -
"I'm sorry, I don't understand. Could you repeat that?"
 -
Ah yes, you must be using on of those new Craftsman "talk to you wrench" wrenches. Been thinking of picking a set of those. Dammed expensive or so I've heard. Do they do a good job? <couldn't resist, sorry>

I thought he was going about changing the condenser the hard way ... (big grin)
 -
If your changing coolants, completely flush the system with a good flush and lots of distilled water. Mixing coolants can create crystals that can clog.
 -
Try turning the key and moving the shift from park to drive and back to park again. Then try to start. Alternatively wiggle the steering wheel while turning the key. (Thinking the key reader is not triggering due to ignition switch out of alignment).
 -
Fuse #9 in the Power Distribution Box. Also #24 is the left stop/brake light, #46 is the right.
 -
On some MY you have to replace parts. More than a simple rinse is the important thing to take away.
 -
On the mobile version the subject line only displays "rear door pass side ...". What are you looking for? If it's a door, check Ebay. Doors go for $250 with local pickup or $450 delivered. .

Is this a Ford head unit?
enigma-2 replied to edgemaster's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
It's a Sync-1 ACM with single CD/DVD, Sirius satellite radio, hard drive and navigation. Looks like it's a Ford Edge but same unit as in my 2009 MKX. -
If your considering changing your own coolant, here's Fords procedure for changing from gold to dark green. It also talks about which parts to replace if 2008 or before. . 2009 MKX Cooling System Corrosion.pdf
 -
My 09 MKX came with gold but my local dealer told me that I should switch over to green. The gold was found to NOT provide sufficient protection. Note that the gold must be COMPLETELY washed out of all parts of the cooling system. Not one trace of the gold must be left to mix with green. It will form crystals and clog the smaller passages. The dealer had a specific process to follow in converting over the system. .

Stupid question time. Did you change the air filter?
 -
It's on the back of the woofer. Before you do anything else, check fuse #38 in the cabin fuse panel aka the "smart junction box". (It's on the drivers side, down near your left foot). This fuse is dedicated to the subwoofer amp.

Yea, that's not right. Think I would try what Paul suggested, bending the metal bracket slightly. -

				extended warranty need help!
enigma-2 replied to kowgurl98's topic in Dealership & Vendor Experiences
Great point. I was looking over the link WWW posted and it's really obscure. There no reference to moon roof, Vista or anything like that, but there is "• Panel Assembly Roof", "• Housing Assembly Roof Slide"; "• Rail Roof Sliding Panel"; "• Guide - Sun Roof Cable" & "• Handle Roof on Glass". So I still have no idea if it's covered or just select parts. Out of curiosity, I looked at my original build sheet and the only thing I can find close to a "moon roof" was "With High Series Open Air Roof". Clear and simple! It's covered if we say it is. -

				Memory seat loses setting!
enigma-2 replied to edgemaster's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
As akirby stated, the correct procedure is: 1 Turn the ignition to the ON position. 2 Press the seat control switch horizontal button forward until the seat track stops. 3 Keep the horizontal button pressed forward for one second after the seat track reaches its forward end of travel. The horizontal forward soft stop has been set, release the switch button. 4 Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for all seat track axis in both directions During the setting procedure, if the seat track stops before the end of travel has been reached, the DSM has stopped at a previously set soft stop. To set the new soft stop, release the seat control switch and press again in the same direction until the seat track stops. . -

1. I don't think it will unless the condensation is really bad. The owners manual discusses what's "normal" condensation and that Ford does not consider it a "problem". Standing water is a different story.2. Broken glass, no, excluded even under factory warranty. Broken mechanism probably. Ive read that some were denied and some were replaced. Depending on what issue your having. I seem to remember reading that Ford add a procedure in the owners manual to clean and lubricate the tracks. So there is a question as to how much we are responsible for keeping the tracks clean and lubricated. 3. Interior wear, no. Too many variables for Ford to cover. I used my ESP for vacuum hose, seat lumbar mechanism, some part on the engine that no one seemed to know what it really did, road service (Lincoln send out a wrecker to change my tire), new PTU and a few other things. I'm down to a powertrain warranty now (basecare), mainly to cover a water pump failure (and one CV joint that has a small leak). . -
Lot of people have reported connection problems when upgrading from the J3-2016 to J3-2017. See if Samsung has released a new OS yet.
 -
Yes. The two different procedures are whether you have the 4" text-only screen or the 7" visual display sreen. Works no matter which CD/DVD you have.

Welcome Ken, nice car, but hard to see her in the dim light. Where have you and the better-half taken "Better Than Blue" to?

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
enigma-2 replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
COP friend of mine told me he doesn't stop for tint, but he does check after a stop for other reasons, if he suspects too dark a film. Here's a site where you can check for your state's legal laws on tinting. Basically all states have laws on windshield and front side window. Back windows, not so much. They cover things like, the amount of tint (here in Indiana tint is ONLY allowed above the manufacturer's AS-1 line and must allow more than 30% of the light in (that is 70% VLT) for side windows). They (laws) govern; reflectivity (silver look); colors (certain colors are banded in certain states); side mirrors; whether certification is required; whether a certification sticker is required and medical exemption requirements. https://www.windowtint.com/pages/state-window-tint-laws For example you mentioned California, nothing on windshield below top 4 inches, front side windows must allow MORE THAN 70% of the light in; back and rear windows allow any tint. Reflectivity cannot be increased over normal on side windows (silver look - front or rear); cannot use RED, AMBER or BLUE tints; and dual side mirrors are required if back window is tinted. Certification IS required and a sticker attached of certification must be carried in car. As for heat rejection while still appearing legal, 3M Automotive Window Film Crystalline Series seems promising. Their 90% film rejects 90% of the IR, 99% of the UV and 3% glare reduction; all while allowing 90% of the light to get through (almost clear). Only downfall to any windshield film is the wipers will scrape dirt and small sand particles across the film and eventually cause the film to scratch, increasing glare. Same thing that happens to the glass only quicker. (Except the glass can be cleared of scratches and vinyl can't). . -
You can always have your existing head unit repaired. Cost is $300 (price with Navigation) from these fellows: https://navrepair.com/collections/all/2009-ford-edge
