Wacki
I'm buying a pre-owned 2013 Edge Sport. I noticed there is no Nav, there is no SD card in the port. If I buy the car will Ford give me one or do I have to pay for the SD card? I live in Canada. Thanks.
nickf1011
You would need to purchase one.
Wacki
I actually thought when you buy the car from the dealer it comes with it.
nickf1011
If you buy it new it does. Imagine it would be entirely up to dealer discretion if they want to include it in a used one.
akirby
The bigger question is even if you get one will it work? If the vehicle did not come with Nav then you can't add it even if you get a SD card.

Wacki
yes, it has nav, just no SD card, I called the dealer, they said the vin says its equipped with nav. So I would have to buy a card for 150.
akirby
Ford has been giving away cards for free with MFT upgrades. Call the Ford number on the MFT website and I'm sure Ford will send you a current card for free. Or try another dealer - they should have extra cards for free. FordIVTteam
Do you have the VIN, Wacki? I can verify if it has navigation. Since it's a used vehicle, it's up to your dealer's discretion on whether they include the SD card or free.Rebecca
ls973800
If the car is in fact equipped with factory nav but missing the SD card, did the dealer list nav as an option that it has? If so, they would have to provide the card because without it the nav is useless. Have you even brought this up with the dealer? You may be putting the cart before the horse if you haven't approached the dealer yet.
Waldo
If the previous owner had removed one of the wheels and kept it, would you expect the dealer to replace it? Of course you would, you can't drive around on three wheels! Sounds like the vehicle originally came with Nav, therefore the SD card is part of the original vehicle. If it's not there, then it should either be replaced before the sale or the price of the vehicle should be suitably discounted.
05stram
not to detract from the original post bust how often does the navigation get updates? I purchased a 13 in November and just bought an Edge an both have maps that are severly outdated. Does the dealer provide the updates or are they downloadable? FordIVTteam
Hi 05stram,Map updates are usually released yearly from our map provider, HERE. The A5 SD card is not available on their website yet, but you can purchase one via your dealership. I do suggest contacting a few dealers to ensure you get the best price. Also, if you are noticing missing POIs, roads, etc., please be sure to let HERE know by reporting them at this link:https://mapreporter.navteq.com/#dashboard Rebecca

That doesn't necessarily mean the lastest map data has those. Sometimes even the most current maps are still somewhat outdated in certain areas. But you can get an updated A5 card for around $125 from dealers.

It's not that - but certain areas that simply have not been revamped lately especially if they've been recently modified.

mcali6301
Sorry that I am asking the same question but it's better than creating another thread... I have a Ford certified pre-owned 2011 Edge SEL but it only missing NAV (it's just "info"). Can I get NAV put in? I've been told no but I can't imagine why not.... ReactiveD
You can add nav to mft I will try to find the link or just do a search. http://m.f150online.com/forums/showthread.php?t=488178&styleid=17 Edited June 12, 2014 by ReactiveD
akirby
That is NOT the factory nav. It's an add-on that splices into the display. None of the built-in commands or displays or integration will work with it. You'd be better off just buying a Tom Tom.

No you can't add NAV to non-NAV equipped vehicles. It's something only Ford knows the reason for. But you still get voice turn by turn navigation through Sync subscription. akirby
The reason is they haven't developed a way to allow dealers to sell it and add it to a vehicle without leaving it wide open for dealers and others to rip it off for free. If it was just an option in the dealer laptop to turn it on then you can see how that might be abused by unscrupulous dealers or techs. Also - at a cost of $700 I'm not sure a lot of folks would pay that aftermarket compared to using their phone or tom tom etc. So the business opportunity isn't big enough to make it worth developing a solution.
