Headlight bulbs for 2017 edge sport

Recommended Posts

Hi All, New to the forum. I have 2017 Edge Sport. I have a question regarding headlight bulb replacement. I work away from home and my wife took the car for service and whilst their she asked how much to upgrade headlights to LED, was told around £1,000 per headlight wtf!!

instead I looked online at powerbulbs, entered car details and the told me I need H7 bulbs which I bought(OSRAM Nightbreaker Laser) . My mate went to fit them today for me (I’m away) and he says they are the wrong type, should be H15?? Little confused as websites all say H7. Can you please advise what bulbs are required and if any of you have changed recently as the dipped halogen headlights are terrible at night.

cheers

many lights are different from country to country. since you're quoting in sterling, is it safe to assume that you're in the UK?

was your friend attempting to change the high beam? according to ford.co.uk, that's an H15.

The low beam is an H7.

Good morning, yes I am from the UK.

the thought had crossed my mind and I have sent him a message but no reply as yet.

Powerbulbs.co.uk state an H7 also that’s why I was confused when he sent the message. I will try and check with him and make sure he removed the correct bulb ?.

See below images, the black and orange H15 is what he removed and the H7 bulbs are the ones I bought

When backing out my garage this morning I notice one of my headlights was orange.

Surprised - I assumed that they would just die, not first change color.

Anyone have recommendations on replacements and is the LED version a viable option?

LED's typically blind oncoming traffic and unless that's no longer an issue I'll consider them.

Getting ready for the delivery of the new HID's I started the job.

The only way to do this without damage is to remove the headlamp assemblies - its way too finicky to seat the HID with the headlamp assy's installed in the car.

The tabs rotate about a 1/4 turn counter-clock to release.

I was concerned that it might be a ballast issue to switched the globes and the orange one moved to the other side - both high and low beam is orange.

I have recently tried some D3S LED replacements from AliExpress on my Edge. They are cheap at about $35 for the pair and hence they last about 1 year only. But they are considerably brighter than HID.

Removing the old bulbs and installing the new one can be done without removing the headlights. I have done it several times now.

@omar302 are you a surgeon that performs those intricate keyhole procedures?

With the assy's installed I removed the bulb from the left side then for the right side I shifted the coolant reservoir to out the way but then hit a snag - I couldn't pull the bulb and then disconnect it because its cable was entangled with the few small gauge wires inside the assembly.

On that one I pulled the ballast and rerouted the wire enabling it to be disconnected/connected with the bulb outside the housing.

I looked at the many lower priced options but decided I'd go with something that is more likely to last as long as the original.
