  1. I can't agree with you on not to buy a first year vehicle. My wife has a '09 MKS, had hardly any issues, the only pain was FM radio reception, had to replace the roof antenna, and also the guides for the rear door locks had to be replaced. The only other problem is that she loves the car so damn much, she doesn't want a new one !
  2. Jonathan - Dark & gooey, most likely your PTU.
  3. My tires have 31,000 miles on them. Have NEVER experienced this on any vehicle we've had with ABS. First car was a '91 Ford Taurus LX, and have always been FOMOCO cars since. Have had cars with a lot more miles on tires, and they still performed normally.
  4. My MKX brakes fine on dry pavement, waiting for more snow, probably not until a week from now, according to the weather forecasters. We'll probably get a snowstorm tomorrow ( LOL ).
  5. Thanks Omar, I'll try it when it rains next week, see what happens.
  6. Thanks for your reply, Waldo. We did get some snow this morning, took the car out (garaged), and it wasn't as bad as last Saturday. It did do some groaning, but not as bad as last week. Next time it snows, I'll compare my car to my wife's '09 MKS (luv that car), and if a big difference in the performance of the ABS, I'll go back to the dealer, and have them compare my MKS to one of theirs. I've gone thru 2 winters with the car, and never before experienced anything like this. I stopped by a local repair shop this morning, this guy I've know for over 20 years, and let him hear the video recording I did when the ABS acted up. He said that he NEVER heard anything like this. He said if it does it again, bring it over, he'll hook up to his computer, and see if he gets any codes. This did this repeatedly last week, not just a few times. Every time I hit the brakes, and the ABS kicked in, this happened. I have about 6 recorded video's on this. Joe
  7. Even thought I have a MKX, I am posting here, because this is where the activity seems to be. I have a '12 MKX (31,000 miles), to the dealer for issues with the ABS brakes. We had a little snow here last weekend, went to stop, the ABS kicked in, and there was more than the normal pedal sensation. I felt a vibration in the floorboard, and it sounded like galloping horses inside the car, and it took longer to stop than usual when the ABS would kick in. The service dept said that all checks out okay, and this vibration & sound is normal. The tech said that he took out another MKX out, and it acted similar to mine. I'm shit scared to take it out in snow, and my wife now refuses to drive my car. She was in the car when the vibration/sound happened. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. One of the service writers at the dealership said that she experiences the same thing with her Ford Edge Sport. I am not happy with their answer. The next substantial snowfall will have me headed back to the dealer, and let the general manager drive the car, and tell me that this is normal. I forgot to mention that the previous week, the car was in for a PTU leak, and NEW PTU was installed. Got the car back, all was okay with breaking on dry pavement, then the snow came a few days later, and the problems started. Maybe I'm over reacting, I don't know, but this body of mine has too many miles left in it, don't need to get killed in a accident ! This is my 3rd winter with the car, and the ABS NEVER acted like this before !
  8. I was able to send the video to the service writers phone. He showed it to the service manager, who agreed that this is normal as the cars age ( OMG, is a 3 year old car over the hill?). One service writer said that her Edge sport makes this crazy sound and vibration, too. I did bring the car home, have paperwork that they claim all is okay, but god forbid, if I loose control of the car because of the ABS not working properly, Ford Motor company is gonna be up shits creek ! If I knew how to upload the video from my iphone to this forum, I would do it. I'm going to take it to a independent repair guy in m y neighborhood, let him hear the video. I told them at the dealer, that as soon as it snows, and the ABS screw up, I'll be up there so they can drive it in snow, and try to stop SHORTLY with messed up ABS.
  9. :cry:I never heard from the dealership, I called them. They said the brakes (ABS) check out fine, and their LEAD mechanic test drove another MKS and it made the same sound (like galloping horses) as mine did. I told them that this is not acceptable, I will go up their after my dentist appointment this afternoon, and I want the service manager to listen to my video (from my cell phone), and tell me that the sound and vibration on the floor of galloping horses is normal, never mind the car took a long time to stop in the snow - kept on sliding. Not a happy camper here
  10. I have a MKC while my '12 MKX is in for servicing (ABS problems). I can see how this can easily happen, will be interested to see what the resolution to the problem is.
  11. All was fine before getting the new PTU, but then again, this is the first snow since last winter. I decided not to call for a tow, just getting up extra early to drive to the dealer (about 6 miles) before morning rush hour traffic. I would think if it was worn pads, they would have caught this when servicing the car. Will update when I get the car back. What worries me is that when the ABS kicked in, the car really shuddered, not the typical pulsating sensation of the brake pedal when ABS are active.
  12. And now for a unhappy update. Had a light (but slippery) snow today, when I went to stop, the antilock brakes kicked in, but the entire car shuddered, and had a scraping sound like I had a plow on the front of my MKX. Called the dealer, they said to bring it in Monday, will get a MKC for a loaner. Speaking with a friend tonight about my new problem, he suggested having the car towed to the dealer -what if something major went wrong with the brakes and I had an accident, then what. So, tomorrow morning after church, I will call Lincoln for a tow.
  13. I'll insist that it gets checked every 10K miles, and thank god for the extended warranty I took out on the car. This was completely covered by the manufacturers 4/48K warranty.
  14. Happy New year WWWPerfA_ZNOW. Checked my paperwork from the PTU repair, here is what was written - INSPECT FOR OIL LEAK FOUND LEAK AT PTU METAL IN LEAKED FLUID REMOVE FILL PLUG TO INSPECT, FOUND NO OIL IN UNIT METAL DEBRIS ON PLUG ADD OIL AND ROAD TEST HUMMING NOISE COMING FROM PTU REPLACE PTU ASSEMBLY.
  15. They didn't say anything about a warranty on the new PTU, I'll have to check with them on that. The paperwork is filed away already, will have to get it and repost what they wrote, but they did indicate that they willed the tranny with "X" amt of trans fluid. They're pretty good at Maplecrest, been with them 6+ years. I did take a 7 year, 100K extended warranty when I bought the car, so all S/B okay. Happy New year.
  16. Got my "X" back today, the dealer put in a NEW PTU, hope all will be okay down the road. The MKC with the 2.3L is like a little rocket ship, will blow the doors off my "X", but I think I still like my "X" better. Not sure how I feel about the push button tranny. It was a novelty, but I had no place to rest my right hand !
  17. I had a MKC form date night, and guess what - they gave me a red one as a loaner while mine is being repaired, and YES, it is the PTU that's leaking in my MKX. Don't know if it's a seal, gasket, or the unit itself, will post when I get it back. Actually, I'm really starting to like this MKC - handles like a sports car, power with the 2.3L is unreal, especially when you put the trans in "S" (sport) mode.
  18. CARR142 - Lincoln has had a program out called 'Date night', ends this month. Went online, applied for the program, and had a new MKC for 2 days, and got a $100 Visa card for dinner - pretty cool. The MKC was quite a car, plenty of power (2.3L), and handles really GREAT - like it's glued down to the road. The only negative fact about the entire car, was that IT IS smaller than a Edge or MKX for interior room. Not bad for the front seat, but back seat legroom was not as spacious as the Edge/MKX. Otherwise, I was VERY impressed with it. I see that you are down in Cherry Hill. I'm up in Garwood, Union County (GSP exit 135).
  19. WWWPerfA-ZNOW, thanks for the wishes, I';m still underthe 4 yr warranty Lincoln gives, and I took an extended warranty for 7 years, 100K miles. The dealership is very good, and has some great tech's.
  20. I had problem with rear gate opening back up, was a upgrade to the system the dealer did. Try leaving a window open just a bit, even 1 inch, and I bet the gate won't re-open. Something to do with cabin pressure.
  21. Just took my '12 MKX to the dealer yesterday, thick, gooey Black drops on the garage floor. I'm thinking that it might be the PTU, will have to wait and see what they say. The car has 31,110 miles on it. They gave me a'12 MKZ as a loaner for now, told me to bring it back to them on Monday (today is Saturday), and they will give me a new MKC for a loaner. Guess they figure it will be a while with my MKX. Will update when more info available.
  22. My wife's '09 MKS had the battery go after 2 years, replaced at no charge by the dealer. Maybe because it's Lincoln, I don't know. My '12 MKX is 3+ years, I keep jumper cables in with the spare tire. I might just go out and get a new battery with winter months approaching. I did put a new battery in the wife's car last winter, never had luck with batteries lasting much more than 3 years.
  23. I want my liftgate as high up as possible, don't like hitting my head on it !
  24. Had a '02 Explorer with a split rear gate, was great to lift up 1/2 (glass) to reach in for stuff. The3n got a '06.o split tailgate, missed it. Both were the Limited models, just a change in design, probably a cost saving factor, too. My '12 MKX has a power tailgate, must admit, I luv this feature.
