  1. There must be a other variables as you stated. I just called the hotline and was told I'm on the list to receive the upgrade package and shouldn't need a dealer install.
  2. So the Ford mailing didn't use the database that "syncmyride" accesses in order to check version numbers, they just went with the build dates? If you ask me, that wasn't very smart unless there is something we're not being told. It would have saved a lot of $$ if they ensured everyone with a high enough version received the mailing rather then going to the dealer..(No offense ;-). I have one of the first 11' Sports, purchased Sept 10'. I guess this means my obsessive mailbox checking is likely in vain. GRRRRRR! I guess I'll get a call into Ford to see if I'm on the mailing list. I've been trying to help them out. In Canada, no mailings have hit yet, but most dealers seem to have the update. I wouldn't have been trying to be so patient. I wouldn't have thought k2kelly's 2012' would have been classified as 11A01.
  3. This is why its a good idea to run the status checker. If you (or your dealer) update your MFT, but don't report your update, then Ford doesn't know you have a new release. You may be running the latest pre V3 update, however Ford doesn't know about it. I would assume that as part of the PDI, they would do all TSB's, which did include several software updates. Perhaps they didn't bother updating it as they figured the big update was coming ???
  4. Hi k2kelly, If you've never had a software upgrade performed to date (from the dealer), then you may not be on a release of the software that is new enough to have the features required for the do it yourself user upgrade. I believe you must be at 2.4 or higher. If you login to your syncmyride account, you can download the "status checker" tool, which you can run on your Edge to update your syncmyride account with the version of the software you have. You can then go to your syncmyride account settings to view your software release. You can check that out now as if you've never updated it yourself, it should have an accurate version number. There are several people on this forum that fall under the same group as you. Some still running very old software releases as they've been having less issues then some on much newer versions and didn't want to take the chance on upgrading. Update: apparently c_bova beat me to the reply. I'm with him. As long as your dealer isn't too far away, it should only take about an hour and you'll also get your SD. I've gone though 2-3 dealer updates before even getting to the self install versions. Its certainly a PITA, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Cheers!
  5. Has anyone in Canada received their package yet? I've not downloaded it yet as I required my GPS a few times in the past couple of weeks, however I think I'm good now. I'll download it if the SD should be delivered soon, but I don't want to go weeks without it.
  6. Sweeeeeetttt! I'll be waiting impatiently to get it. I've had a "Home" button ghost overlayed on all my screens for about a week now, I've just been too lazy to pull 29 again to clear it. P.S. I'd highly recommend doing a USB reboot or pull 29 prior to running the update. As with any system, a full restart always helps updates/upgrades run smoother/faster.
  7. I found it a bit disappointing. I guess they can't do much with the simulator, but I've not updated my iOS in a while so it wasn't supported. I updated to 5.01 for this and now my iPod is as slow as #@%^! I know its not the app, but it still seems to coincidental that because of wanting to view the MFT demo, it made my ipod slow. Its the MFT curse!
  8. So for us that paid for the best warranty and support, we get the worst! I'll just wait to see what actually happens before I bitch about it.
  9. That sounds so Post Apocalyptic. IronX needs a picture of Mad Max on the bottle. I second Richy on this one, I've learned a lot about paint care from this guy and his other detailing forum. If he uses it, its good stuff. I've not used it, but should. If it is "Industrial fallout" and it does sound like it, then this will certainly take care of it and is by far the best option. (Based on dozens of other comments reviews I've read, none bad, all good. I've never personally used it) The cause is tiny iron particles that embed in the paint. You only see them when they start to rust. Very obvious on a white car. IronX dissolves the iron without harming the paint. Its fantastic science and very new to the market! You won't find anything like it at Canadian Tire, Home Depot etc. You could try a clay bar, which is easier to buy and cheap ones can be found at CT, but won't work as well for this situation. If you can only see a few, it could be a viable option.
  10. I've never had as many "Guy" type comments with any other vehicle I've had and can comment on every scenario mentioned. "Is that the new Edge Sport, that looks mean!" - Mazda service adviser that lives in my area. "Those rims are awesome (wicked...etc)" - many, many guys. "How much are they? I've seen them on the highway and I want one!" - Some tough guy in a Home Depot parking lot as his wife rolled her eyes. "What! They're factory?!" - Some guy checking out the 22" rims doing 120KM/h on the 401 highway and my wife shouted..."There factory!" ;-) "My friends don't believe me that my Dad has a Ford Edge Sport and that it can do all of this cool stuff!" - My 11 year old son. (I keep him sheltered from all of the MFT issues though so he isn't jaded) "Can I play my iPod? This is the only place I can listen to my songs and hear good bass!" - My 15 year old son. The 2 of us have gone for drives just to listen to music. (For a factory system, its quite good) I could go on and on with the comments I get. I spend a lot of time washing it in the driveway and I'm rarely out there without one of the neighbors coming over and commenting on it. My wife always tells me to get off my high horse, its just a Ford, but I'm quite proud of my "Guy" car/truck (Cruck). In my opinion all of the 2011's and on, have a bit meatier look to them to the older models and the Sport just takes that a bit farther.
  11. Put the hook side of some Velcro in the front corners and that should take care of it. It may fuzz up your carpet if you remove it a lot though. It is surprising it moves on you though. Mine doesn't go anywhere. Do you have a plastic sheet or anything under it for it to slide on?
  12. You can't go by any of the pics. I'm assuming this is a place that makes covers for many vehicles. If you look closely at the pics, they are all different covers and the vehicle isn't even an Edge...you can see wheel wells in the trunk. This doesn't mean it isn't a good unit, but who knows that's the problem. My factory cover was taken out the first week and I don't even know where it is. The original is a complete piece of crap!! Its obvious it is an afterthought as it doesn't even have proper connections on the body. I didn't think of the mod idea though. I have the cover from my old Nissan Rogue that would be close. I may check that out tonight. Combined with aftermarket and factory tint, I've got 7% in the back and trunk, so good luck seeing what I have in there anyway. The cover does make it look more neat and tidy though.
  13. I noticed it a few weeks ago as well. There were a lot of construction icons on my maps and a few roads seemed to show as different colors, which I believe was traffic. It did seem to be outdated info though as I passed a few ! marks on the map, but didn't see any issues in the real world.
  14. That may be the case as I know there are some strange licensing laws around that, but the easy fix is just distribute it from Ford Canada. I'm not too worried about the memory key, I have 10+ of them, a download is fine. I just want to ensure we're getting the SD card and don't have to go to the dealer. That's a PITA! Don't get me wrong, I actually like my service dept, I just see them more then some of my family, so I don't want to go anymore then I have to.
  15. Did they actually say that, or just not mention the USB? What about the SD for the NAV update? If they told you that, its another dump on us in the North. I still find it hard to believe the Edge and MKX are built 100km from me and I can't use all of its features in my Country. I think this pisses me off more then the MFT issues. It's just the principle of it all. When did you get your Edge? If similar to your join date, then I've had mine for close to a year longer (Sept 2010) and I still haven't received any notification on the updates. I'm with the bunch that liked 2.8 better. I've had more issues with 2.11 then any other release. Sure its faster and has a few visual issues sorted out, but it reboots and locks up, more then even my 1.8 did. Once a week, my radio locks up that I can't turn it off with the button, only with voice commands. This gets fixed on the next reboot, again that seems to be at least once a week. I've also had to pull 29 more since 2.11 then the rest of the time I had the MFT.
  16. These are my 18" winters, with the P245/60R/18 Blizzak DM-V1 as well. It was between these and the Monarch's Dr.Edge picked up. I liked the polished lip. Re: Centric Rings - Some will say you don't NEED them. Most people go with non centric steel wheels w/ no rings for winter, but you're unlikely to get them centered perfectly without the rings, which will result in the vibrations you're experiencing. Now you don't know if its a centering issue, or a balance issue. You'll get mixed comments some installers won't even put them on without rings, other say they are not important. For $10 in plastic, I say get them, if you can get the info on the rims to pick up the right size. I was the one that helped Tire Rack get the right hub size on the rim below and on the 2011 Sport, they had both details wrong in the system and sent me 3 sets of rings until I had the right ones.
  17. +1 Sid's cheap software programing emporium, could have programmed this 1000 ways from Sunday and still came up with a fantastic result. The process to get there isn't really important as long as the deliverable is what we expect. Its software, I'm 99% sure it will have bugs too. Tell me a program that doesn't. I'm excited about this, they could have just made it available in 2013 vehicles. Hey, Windows Vista was slow and crashed constantly, but people who bought it didn't get a free upgrade to Windows 7 just because it sucked! As far as the press releases go, I honestly think Ford is downplaying the new release so we're presently surprised. If they boost it too much and don't deliver, they'll have a mob on their hands. Everyone, just sit back, grab a beer and wait for the package to show up. Its all just speculation until then.:beerchug:
  18. Based on the details, Jeff's job was the reskin, but there was more to it. .flv files can contain more advanced code, but from the sounds of it, he was doing the graphics and layout of the screens, which is the main purpose of these .flv files. MS and bSquare were updating .as files, which is action script, this is the commands that are run when you press a button. Jeff was to make the new interface look and was given details like, when you press the driver seat button, run "driverheatseat.ai", but what that does is irreverent to him. It is the rewrite of these .ai files that is the real software update. Items like the phone and ipod (bluetooth & USB) links would have nothing to do with the Flash programming, these are OS (Operating System) or device driver changes which is the underlying MS Auto (aka Windows CE) and the MS SYNC application, so he likely wouldn't have even been aware changes to this realm. The OpenGL is also a biggie. It is underlying software that allows Flash to use hardware acceleration for graphics, rather then using the main CPU resources, usually 3D stuff. This part may have had the largest effect on the entire MFT. If you can free up CPU resources, then you're a lot less likely to bog it down and make it slow, mess up commands or even crash and do the reboot. Think of it as having a turbo under the hood, but its not connected, so your car never uses it. That little 2.0 ecoboost will perform like crap if they forgot to connect it. Connect it up and its like a new engine. Open GL hardware acceleration is built into almost every video processor on the planet now, why they weren't using it before??? This is only one of the hundreds of "Why didn't they .....?" questions we have, but we'll likely never no the answer. This guy seems to know what he's doing, so having one guy do most of the interface may even be a good thing. This resume, certainly doesn't look good for Ford though, as it still shows a complete lack of project skills in software. Who would outsource a Flash project to a company with no Flash developers?? This Jeff guy, may actually be our savior!
  19. I only started using my parking brake since I picked up the Edge. The big tires and the 6-12" roll, made me worried about breaking off the park pawl. Other users here were stating it was the only fix. So now I've gotten into the habit of doing it EVERYWHERE! It doesn't matter if its a slope or at the gas station on the level pad. If I'm stopped and taking my foot off the brake, then I set it. "Set it and Forget it". If you use it regularly, you shouldn't have an issue with it ceasing. It's much more likely to jam if you only use it every few months. Then when you need it, it won't work, or will not disengage. All of this is irreverent to the main issue though. This certainly should not have happened, so please keep us up to date on what you find out.
  20. It just goes to show everyone, don't take life for granted. Avoid the obvious, but don't concern yourself with the inevitable. There is a very famous saying..."Live every day like it is your last". I've had many close calls where seconds or inches would have made the difference. You just don't know! My thoughts go out to everyone involved!
  21. Sweeeeeet!!! As long as they don't give us Canucks a hard time. I'm wondering if we'll get any of our missing services (in Canada)...and our web browser. I want the web browser!
  22. Hey Dingo, Where did you hear Nav users also get an SD card? That's awesome if its true! Also everyone should hold on jacking this thread into an SD card review. Lets wait until we have confirmation you can copy it to a new card. I'm guessing you can't, but have never tried it myself. Its likely VIN locked, so it could be possible as long as it's only used in the same vehicle. If this doesn't work, it may be possible with an actual disk copy utility. There could be sector information on the SD card that won't copy using standard methods.

    Clunky "lazy" Shifts

There is a new(ish) TSB for this, its a lot more then the PTU seal. Your dealer should have known about this one. It involves physical updates to your tranny and a software update. It did a lot for me, but I'm still not 100% happy, although it is MUCH better! This tread has a lot more details. Tranny TSB
  24. I'm not sure if it was just me, or due to the conversion to Celsius, but my "redundant" options didn't always match. Depending on the temp, they were 1 degree off. It always irritated me, perhaps this is one of the reasons they removed one. Who needs to sort out that bug, if you can only see one, then its as good as fixed ;-)
  25. I'm with ya, I love em. They're pretty good in snow...for a non snow tire. I won't panic if I'm late getting my snows on. Did they do the remount under warranty? Did they also re-balance?
