Best Sirius Price Available without auto renewal
wlepse replied to RJG's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
There are a couple of threads on this here but another good resource for deals would be slickdeals.net. Do a search and you likely find what ever it is you are looking for. I just got a 6 month for $25 deal that I will likely take. There is also another one that is slightly cheaper per month but it is only 4 months. Since I find SiruisXM to be such a PITA to deal with I would rather spend a little more per month and deal with them less. Besides I think the difference is like 50 cents a month. But yes all of the deals are subject to auto renewal. My plan is to use my Citi bank card and get a virtual CC number, set it up for one time use of $35. That way if I forget to cancel the sub just before renewal they can't charge my card. Then I can haggle with them again on the price. -
I have not but am thinking of giving it a go since it is easy to go back should I not like it. Thinking the grill and emblems might be good candidates.

2012 Remote Start Problems
wlepse replied to Fatstrat64's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Yeah that sounds right...think the horn honked once and the hazards flashed three times or something to that effect. When I opened the hood my switch was missing. The switch should be mounted on the passengers side and it is a black plunger style switch. If you have a meter you can check to make sure you have continuity across it when it is down. -
2012 Remote Start Problems
wlepse replied to Fatstrat64's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
I would check the hood switch. When mine stopped working it was because the dealer took it our to do some work and forgot to install it. So maybe you have a loose connection or a bad switch. -
Wasn't so much thinking of buying them from Ford...figured someone here with a Sport that upgraded might want to sell them cheap. But with that said I don't know if there would be any improvement. I would think the engines are fairly close in weight so there shouldn't be much if any issue there but again I have no idea how the spring rates compare. Part of me would like to lower the Edge a little but I am not sure I want to drop close to 2" of aftermarket.

Sririus Travel Link Weather Map Problems
wlepse replied to cliffwilson91's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Yes you can but some have had problems getting them to do this...I think with Sirius XM it all comes down to the CS rep you get. Some are helpful...some just flat out suck. -
I think they sell some "chromed" bits on ebay but I don't know if the quality is any good.
-
I would be interested to know if the Sport springs offer any drop and what their rates are compared to Limited and below. Might be another option for those looking to minimize roll and the rates probably won't be too much higher that you'll blow out the shocks much quicker than going aftermarket.

Wow..Ford took a hit again in reliability ratings
wlepse replied to wlepse's topic in Owner Impressions
OK that makes sense but I was under the impression the sync platform was pretty solid...no? -
Saw this article: http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/key-car-quality-study-ranks-software-bugs-most-170243393.html I guess they fell from 5th two years ago to 23rd last year.....now at 27th due to the MFT debacle. One thing I am confused by is that they say the tech is in 4 million vehicles, but updates were only sent to 377k?? They also feel the rewrite will improve their scores for next year. While I think mine is a whole lot better it still isn't quite right. I guess time will tell.

I don't even think there is much in the way of appearance products...still find it confusing since there are so many of these out there.

Hitch and folding cargo carrier.

Well if I ever get around to putting something together I'll post it up so you can see how it all looks. -

That 2" might be enough but really it depends on what you are putting back there. If they are not sensitive to temp then it doesn't matter. I just mention it since the cargo bag I bought it questionable at this point from last years trip. But I really doubt that DeeZee is going to clear the bumper when folded. I see the spec you mention listed but if you look at like the 5th pic, it doesn't look like you have that much clearance to me. The rails are supposed to be over 6" so if you kind of scale off that I don't even think there is 6" of shank let alone clearance. But yes this does get confusing. That is why I may just get the riser or weld one up then get whatever folding carrier I find a deal on. -

I know the Valley version I had was at least an inch further back, but I don't know about the others. But as I mentioned above really look at what you are planning on carrying. I had a cargo bag melt from the exhaust last year, so I would highly recommend you look at either a cargo carrier that has a rise built in or buy a riser. -
Can you set Display to default to Nav upon start up?
wlepse replied to Joe Hardin's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Yeah just noticed that today. I guess I never really paid attention since I usually leave it on that screen. -

I haven't driven the vehicle much since the update to be sure but I thought it stayed on the last screen -

I have the Curt without the other two holes drilled but I will be doing it this summer. I think so long as your tongue weight is low you'd be OK. I held off since I had fitment issues witht he first one and wanted to make sure this one was clunk free before I modified the car. As for a folding tray I posted a thread a while back about the same thing. I started looking into them but noticed they all had very short shanks. I was all set to get a Curt since I was very happy with their paint quality and welds but it won't clear the bumper. Etrailer did make a recommendation but then I remembered the problem I had last year. The exhaust tips are at the same level as the tray. So now I am looking to get a riser that will clear the bumper or I pick up a receiver tube from Harbor Frieght and weld it to a 2" to 1 1/4" adaptor I have. This way I can raise the tray level 2-4". If I do this then any folding cargo carrier will work. -
Still have had no luck getting anywhere on that. Another thread someone mentioned Ford updated the app for the MFT so maybe they are all waiting for that to come out and see if it fixes the problems. I may also try that mod of extending the mic from the board to see if that helps. I just played with the voice recognition sitting in the parking lot and it seemed fine so maybe this background noise is the issue. OK back to sync services vs built in nav...tried this and both Goolge and sync services clearly say destination will be downloaded. I tried it anyway and get the same results as doing it through the nav. I did compare it to my TomTom and to Googles routing and it seems it is recommending googles alternate which has a lot more single lane country roads. My default is to go with fastest, the only thing I avoid are ferries and I no longer have traffic, so anyone have an idea why it would be chosing the route with the least highways? On this particular trip the google times/miles aren't that different but the discrepancy has been much larger before. The expected route is on the right, the MFT route goes through Allentown. As a side note the TomTom picks a completely different route, up in NJ I like it better, down in DE and MD I am not so sure. Also can anyone confirm how you can search for POIs along a route? I don't see this as an option on my system and I used to use this all the time on my TomTom. Especially on those long trips when you know you'll want a break in say 2 hours, I could do a search for rest areas along the route and pick one that was maybe 100-120 miles away. With this systel it seems I can check near my home, near a destination, nearby or a specific place. Am I just missing something? And for thsoe that modify your routes...what do you find is the most effective way to do this? I figure there must be a better way to use this than what I am doing now.

Removing Sirius from the Source List?
wlepse replied to Laminar's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I don't think it enables any features other than it would allow you to share you internet connection from your phone via wireless. -
Removing Sirius from the Source List?
wlepse replied to Laminar's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Yeah but that was for the previous generations...I think the software for the MFT is different and the screens may be static, I doubt they did any dynamic screens since it would take more resources to make sure the mapping of the screens starts the right thing. But still worth a try. -

wlepse replied to Laminar's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Hadn't heard that about the antenna but that would be nice if it were true. But I don't think the screens are customized in that way...I would have thought the graphics were fixed but who knows. -
Crap...that is what I thought but it seemed ladybird4 was indicating otherwise. Sucks because like I mentioned above I find it much more intuitive and user friendly to manipulate a route on google than the MFT. Akirby...any input on the mic question?
-
Thanks...I am going to review that pdf and see if I am doing something wrong. But something else popped in my head last night. We do get a lot of noise when using the phone which has been attributed to mic noise. Does anyone know if this is an issue with the way it works over BT or if anything using the mic would have this noise? Just wondering if part of my voice recognition issues are because of the whooshing sound in the background. Didn't know that about the google and mapquest. Will have to pick a couple of wacky routes and send those over to try.
