Plastic Chrome Wheel Covers are not "covers" at all!
wlepse replied to BernieEdge's topic in 2011 Edge & MKX
No warranty issues at all. All you will have to do is have the sensor moved from the bad wheel to the new one. -
I actually prefer this...usually the door handles are in plain sight or are easy to find in the dark or an emergency. Seems like a safer method of doing it should the driver be knocked out and can't open their door.
-
Yeah but I think the unlock only works after teh driver opens the door. So it is still a tad inconvienent if you are dropping someone off. But I guess you could always set it to not autolock.
-
I think there are settings for it in the cluster but to be honest I think it only locks teh doors above a certain speed I don't think it automatically unlocks. As for getting out of the back when locked, you can pull up on the pin to unlock the door then use the door handle like normal. If this doesn't work check to make sure someone didn't bump the child safety lock to disable the door lever.

MFT report your successful installations or problems
wlepse replied to exodus's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
You can try a new APIM as c_bova mentions but to be honest they are hit and miss. Some have had luck other have not, and some had temporary relief. If your system was working without these errors before and all that changed was the software update I seriously doubt it is your APIM. I had a similar situation going from 2.8 to 2.11 and an APIM replacement didn't help. Thankfully the software rewrite has helped me but it is still far from perfect or even acceptable. I still think there is some other hardware issue or conflict that Ford knows about but doesn't quite know how to make the software work with all variations. -
Air Conditioning coming on automatically
wlepse replied to pmxdnts's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
This may be true but you still should have the ability to turn it off should you decide. Besides, if this is randomly changing state it could be a sign something is not right with the MFT install or hardware and is worth investigating before they have a bigger problem. -
Has anyone torn the console apart to see what is behind the A/V panel? The reason I ask is I would like to connect a DVD player but not have the connectors sticking out inside the console. As it is the wife complains about the USB cable but eventually I will be moving that to the spare input on the APIM. Just wondering if anyone knows if I can put a splitter in on the backside and have the DVD connected but still leave the ports int he console bin unused.

Air Conditioning coming on automatically
wlepse replied to pmxdnts's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I haven't seen that in particular but I have seen the MFT system lock out control and force its own idea of what should the HVAC should be doing. But to be honest most of the time it hiccups it is either in auto and we have no control to change things or it is off and we can't turn it on. Once I noticed it changed from single temp to dual but that was it. What version of the MFT are you running? So far with the rewrite my HVAC has been much more stable and reliable. -
Sure useable depends on what car seat, who is sitting back there and for how long. I can tell you that with a Britax Boulevard 70CS mounted on the side you can still get the armrest down. I didn't measure but would guess there is about an inch clearance. So someone could sit there but don't think it would be super comfy, especially since the car seat sides are somewhat unforgiving. But if you are just looking to take a few guys from the office to lunch you should be OK.

Dingo what you are referring to its the latch point not the tether points. As far as I know the Edge only has tether points on the back of the rear seats. If you look at page 30 of the pdf you linked you'll see what I am talking about. While they do show you can use the rear tether for rear facing good luck getting a kid in and out of the seat with all those straps in the way. On page 31 it does show the strap I was referring to and how to use it. On the Audi I had this wrapped around the rail supporting the front seat on the Edge I wrapped it around the bottom of the rear seat support.
-
Pretty sure that only works for forward facing...don't think the strap could make it that far and even if it did going under the car seat you wouldn't be able to adjust it.
-
Haven't heard anything about it but have a feeling this is still a long way off if it happens at all. Some are still having issues with teh MFT and when I asked my dealer about it they indicated they are still working on it. So if they haven't worked out the bugs for the base system I don't see them making more work for themselves.
-
I wasn't able to find a legit one but did something that should be better than nothing. Our Britax came with a strap that had a connector on one end and a loop sewn into the other. I took that strap and loped it around the seat support then connected the tether. Not ideal but worked for us for several months.

I wasn't comparing the the mileage of the Edge to the cars but rather the fact that all the cars I have owned have been able to easily surpass the EPA esimates even over the long haul with modified engines. So while I don't think the mpg of the Edge is all that bad I certainly can't get what they state on the sticker.
-
Well I can't speak for the OP but I can say that up until recently my wife and I have always been able to not only reach the highway ratings we typically exceed them. I am currently using an Audi A4 as my DD that I think was stickered for 27mpg; it is chipped has 200k on the clock and is getting 30mpg in stop and go traffic. Even my Subaru Legacy GT I had before that was stage 2 and was still capable of getting just under the highway rating for stop and go commuting. With the Edge we can barely come close on the highway driving like a grandma. I have a few friends that have recently found the same with new cars from various manufacturers, so I suspect the EPA may have changed their way of calculating the expected mileage.

My Key Programming
wlepse replied to Cdpratt69's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Other options is to buy a Dodge Aries...that was my first car and well let's just say there was nothing for my parents to worry about other than it might break down. -
Doug3940...please update with the version of MFT you are running. Interested to know if we should be paying more attention to what the system is doing when we aren't in the car.
-
I have seen several times on the old 2.11 that the radio would remain on no matter what you did with the doors or keys. The only fix those times was pulling the fuse. Since updating I haven't seen this happen yet but since there are still plenty of bugs I wouldn't be too surprised if someone said this was still possible.
-
Yeah if you are not using it I would shut it off...who knows what additional resources it is taking to store and display them. Might be fine for short trips but on long rides it may be enough to start bogging the MFT down.

Navigation routing problems after upgrade
wlepse replied to Summerwind's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Good luck with Ford...did your dealer tell you that they are working on fixes to the rewrite? Last time I brought mine in they just said they were working on it but gave nothing specific. I am a bit pissed about the nav too...originally it lagged your actual position so bad that in busy interchanges you were never sure if you were making the right turn. Now it is much closer but I find in some places it still has me offroad or ahead of where I am at. So even if you make the turn you are supposed to you start getting prompts to make a u-turn. Also still get occasional red X over the GPS indicating I have no signal. Never have any issues like this with TomToms or Garmins. According to my dealer they can find nothing wrong either, even though I can show pictures and video of what is happening. Very frustrating that this GPS was like $800 and my closeout TomTom from Target for $35 blows it out of the water.- 10 replies

I turned on breadcrumbs this morning and sure enough I was getting the little round gray marks you describe, probably around an 1/8". If you want to shut them off go into settings, navigation, map preferences then turn it off. Again not sure what the purpose is unless you are out exploring and want to try to find your way out by following the way you came.

I use an 320GB external HDD that has around 60GB or music...so I have spinning platters too. Is the old iPod USB2? Maybe that is the difference?
-
Do you have the latest version of MFT? Easiest way to tell is if the top center has tiime only you have the latest. Reason I ask is we saw similarly long indexing times with the older versions but find that the latest software gets about 60GB done in about 5 minutes. So if you were on the new software I wouldn't expect your indexing to take more than 15-20 min.

Not sure teh purpose with a vehicle but in the past I have used breadcrumbs when using a GPS offroad so I could overlay the points on a map to create a trail map. Might have the wife's Edge tomorrow...if so and I remember I will take a look at the breadcrumb feature and see if it is as you describe.
