  1. LOL, LOL, LOL, a lot. I'm sorry, but I am picturing grill shutters in FRONT of the grill. Or maybe Ford could supply a roll of duct tape with each Edge purchased? We could do-it-yourself streamlining. BTW, these are not Formula 1 cars now, are they? Sigh. I thought this stuff was common knowledge. Obviously I am mistaken in thinking that.
  2. I know it seems counterintuitive, and my engineering knowledge is minimal, to say the least. But, I read. So the engineers say that you will get less resistance if you divert the air around the grill and down the (aerodynamic) sides, rather than having it go through the grill and then bounce off the firewall, finally exiting under the vehicle and causing even more turbulence there. That few square feet of naugahyde did improve the CD. Think about it. Isn't that one reason we have front spoilers? Do you think that Ford, and everyone else, have not run these shutters through a wind tunnel. As far as that SAE article being an ad for CO and CO2 emissions, well, the only way to do that is to burn less fuel. Grill shutters help to accomplish that goal. Or, you could believe that Ford put them on the Edge to make gas mileage worse. Yeah, that's it.
  3. Sorry, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) disagrees with you. Where, exactly, did you get the figure of "If every Edge saves ten drops of gasoline over it's life time due to grill shutters" ? Anyway, here are the facts. http://papers.sae.org/2014-01-0633/ Click on Preview Technical Paper on the right of the page. Seems that grill shutters work to improve range even on electric cars, as well as with gas engine cars.
  4. Buyers choice, the EPA mileage is 3 mpg better with the 2.0, over the 3.5 and 2.7, so it depends how important that is to you. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymake/Ford2015.shtml
  5. If you really want to baby your turbo, you might check how much the dealer wants for a change with Motorcraft FULL Synthetic. They make it. https://www.fordparts.com/Products/Chemicals-MotorOils.aspx?fmccmp=myfordmag-site-MFPR0915MIN
  6. Are the vents in the back of the console wide open?
  7. I have one of these thermometers, so I can vouch that they work. This eliminates all guesswork about whether or not the seat cooling works, especially if one seat works and the other does not. http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=thermometer Other brands are available.
  8. That is interesting. So are you suggesting NOT buying a Ford Edge because Consumer Reports likes it? Anyway, there have been over 120 views on this subject, so how many of you readers would have preferred that Consumer Reports ripped the Edge like they did the Range Rover? Just curious.
  9. Well, before you guys grit your teeth in anticipation, LOL, Consumer Reports LOVED IT! It tested out at 82 points and $40k, compared to a Land Rover Discovery Sport with 58 points ($50k). They tested an SEL with the 2.0. When I heard that their test Edge had the water leak problem, I thought that they would rip the Edge for that. Seems like they talked to Ford about it, and it is not mentioned in the review. So, they say that the only reason they do not give the Edge a "Recommended" Check-Mark is because it is a new model with no Reliability history. They do that with most new models. We'll see how prevalent the problems really are when they do their survey.
  10. FWIW, I posted this video when this mess first started. Look at the 1:00 mark. I don't know how you do quality control on this operation, but it probably is not visual. People are not in this picture. Most likely QC robots monitoring the working robots. Robots are amazing, but obviously they missed something in tis case. Badly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjUTnCowzNQ
  11. Just some info. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=73
  12. True, if Ford is a car company that does not care about its reputation for quality and customer service. I really feel for the people going through this type of horror story. Unfortunately, Ford has apparently not learned from the mistakes of all the other auto manufacturers when dealing with large scale quality problems. It may not help those already involved, but I'm fairly confident that Consumer Reports will "out" this problem, and change their early glowing review of the 2015 Edge to a do-not-buy recommendation. Sad. Hide and watch. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2015/03/2016-ford-edge-review/index.htm http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2015/07/stop-sale-finds-ford-edge-under-water/index.htm
  13. If you look at that news release, it said that the 2016 Ford F-series was "Unclear", at that time. Since the 2016 MKX is in the showrooms with Sync 2, the news release is correct in expecting Sync 3 in the 2017 MKX. Right now, anything else is wishful thinking, is it not? But we will see.
  14. Well, I can cross the 2016 MKX off my shopping list. Looks like the 2016 Edge will get Sync 3 before the MKX, now scheduled for 2017. What could Ford be thinking?
  15. If someone can go to the 2016 MKX build site and point out where it says that it comes with Sync 2, I would like the link. That way I can e-mail Ford to tell them that their Conceirge system is lacking in accuracy, to put it mildly. BTW, shipping a brand new platform with 5+ year old technology is just pathetic. I guarantee that there will be some buyers very surprised to find out their new baby has that old, problematic sync version. Oh well. Caveat emptor.
  16. Who knows? It is hard to get good info on a new model, for some reason. Here is a link that the Lincoln Conceirge just sent me for the 2016 MKX. Said 2016 has it. Looks like Sync 3 to me, but what do I know? http://owner.lincoln.com/how-tos.html/?sync=sync-3&model=MKZ&year=2012
  17. Oops! I continued a discussion on the MKX on the Edge thread, but it really belongs here. My local dealer has two 2016 MKX models in, one for test drives and one in the showroom. My wife drove it today, and was impressed. Neither one was for actual sale, even though they have window stickers on them. They were actual production models. The dealer said they expect the first units for sale to arrive in 2-3 weeks. Also, the dealer said that they were Sync 3, and the screen did look somewhat different from my current Sync 2, but I forgot to double check it because Sync is not a big deal for my wife. The pic is of the invoice they gave me today for a high-end one they have on order. I have an X-Plan pin (Ford stockholder). http://findlaylincol...ze=10&Model=MKX

  19. Bronze Fire would be my first choice. Most of the other colors are "run of the mill". Since so many people prefer ordinary colors, that is what dealers order. But, when the dealers do get a different color in, they go quickly. My dealer stock. http://www.fordcountrylv.com/inventory/new/ford-edge-in-henderson-nv/
  20. If Ford has no sway over the level of service that a dealer provides, then why are dealers so anxious to get a 5-star rating on Ford's Customer Satisfaction Survey? I even had one salesman give me a jar of candy while telling me why a 5-star review is important to the dealership. If the dealer feels that Ford can't touch them, why do they get so upset about a bad review? http://consumerist.com/2012/06/14/give-ford-dealership-bad-survey-rating-get-told-you-are-no-longer-welcome-here/ Google it for more examples. Seems that the Ford Customer Satisfaction Survey means something, no? Maybe more people need to fill them out, exposing their problems, if any.
  21. Thanks for the info. I'm guessing that a robot went whacko, and they are usually so reliable, no one noticed when they skipped an area. Look at 0:55 on this video to see a typical vehicle being sealed. Easy to miss a couple of beads. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoJ_L-KgdhY Ay least now they know.
  22. http://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.cfm?id=27&t=4 So you probably will not notice much significant difference in mpg between E-10 and straight regular, 3% of 20 mpg is 0.6 mpg, not much. Is there a price difference between E-10 and regular? E-85, on the other hand, is a gas mileage killer. You would have to buy it at a 25% to 30% discount, or more, over E-10, just to break even.
  23. Just some info you might be interested in knowing. Don't get upset about Ford's price per share, it does not relate to the real value of the company. Today, the market capitalization for Ford is $64.64 billion. For GM the market cap is $62.24 billion. For Chrysler/Fiat the market cap is $20.89 billion. Ford has just issued more shares than the others.
  24. I'm looking at a 2015 F-150, as well as an Edge, and came across this gas mileage website. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymake/Ford2015.shtml What I noticed is that a 2015 F-150 Supercab 2WD with the 2.7 Turbo had a EPA rating of 19/26 mpg with a combined of 22 mpg. Then I saw that the 2015 Edge, with the 2.7 Turbo and FWD, had a rating of 18/27 mpg, with a 21 mpg combined. Makes me wonder what the new Edge weighs compared to the new F-150. Anyone know?
  25. This is going into the 2015 Edge, whenever it comes out. Watch the video. http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2014/11/28/ford-takata-adaptive-steering/70077402/
