  1. Passenger seat heat/cool stopped working back on May. Dealer changed seat TED unit. Said it was a little over $800 but extended warranty covered it 100%. Seat stopped working next day. Dealer diagnosed that seat back TED had failed. Surmised that seat unit took out the seat back unit when it failed. The extended warranty ran out June 1st, but they went back and added the unit onto the original the service order, and filed with warranty. Only got a glimpse of the dealer's copy of the service order, was $921. Uh Ya. For a TED unit. Also had a no start couple of days ago, cranked and tried to start, but couldn't. Gas related. Started on second attempt no problem. 2nd time this happened. (About 9-10 months ago). Also died while driving once last winter. Restarted immediately. So I had them check the purge valve. Tested ok, told me they used the computer to open and close the valve on demand, several times, and it worked flawlessly. But seeings how it's intermittent, it didn't surprise me. Happens one more time and I'll change the valve. Anything else I should be considering?
  2. I just have my dealer do it. $80 and done.
  3. Battery doesn't have enough power to start or run engine. As it happened while driving, it sounds to me like the alternator isn't charging (or battery is bad). Batteries in modern cars must be tested for CCA and not just voltage. Try charging the battery and see if it starts. If so, I'd suspect a bad battery or charging system.
  4. They fixed the 4cyl. Older 4cyl used a 'trace' cut in the top of the block between cylinders 2 and 3. That cut the amount of metal separating the bores by half resulting in gasket failure. To fix this, Ford opted to drill a hole through the block, just below the block top, allowing full width metal between bores and no more gasket failures. Personally I prefer a naturally aspirated v6, but ... welcome to the future. Could be worse. Could be made in Russia. ?
  5. Keep in mind that aluminum is magnetic field permeable. This can be seen in many Android phones which incorporate aluminum case backs. Charges right through the aluminum. Probably better off just disconnecting the pad.
  6. Little confusing. Is it the socket on the radio or the plug on the end of the cable that buggered up? A better picture (close up) of the actual damage might be if help. You need to accept that neither are easy to find as a repair item. You will probably need to make a jury-rigged connection to remake the connection. Or send the radio into a repair service. I doubt these sockets are readily available to the public. If it's the plug end, you'll probably have to get a partial cable (a cut off) from a junk yard and splice it onto your existing cable assy.
  7. On my Samsung Galaxy, I can turn off wireless charging. I'd imagine IPhone has same setting. Settings>Device Care>Battery>Charging>(uncheck) Fast Wireless Charging. Then put phone on pad and see if phone is ignored.
  8. I doubt that auto manufacturers will adopt breath detectors. Most likely they'll use touch-based systems. Manufacturers claim they can be ready by 2025. It reads drivers' blood alcohol level below the skin surface using touch sensors in the car's ignition button or gear shifter. The sensor shines a beam of light onto a person's finger and uses near-infrared tissue spectroscopy to take measurements. I have mixed feelings about these. The more complex a car gets, the more prone to failure. But In reality, drunk driving kills ~32 people per day in the U.S (that's one person every 45 minutes and more than 10,000 per year). Most automobile accidents are alcohol and drug related.
  9. Tried wireless charging with my Samsung and never liked it. Takes too long. I always use a cable plugged into the power poinnt whenever I'm using Escort Live (displays a map of my location and shows where cops running radar and laser are located) or when I have cable TV or YouTube playing. Wireless charging would never keep up with these apps. The wireless pad is just a set of coils projecting a magnetic field. Anything that spaces to phone above this field would stop magnetic coupling. Or a piece of metal would shield the phone.
  10. Gets worst when accelerating and bad at 60. Most common cause is worn tires, wheels out of balance or bent. If tires may get better when doing 70 or 80 mph. As you've changed cv axles, tires and struts, so those good. Also possibly is worn wheel bearing. Lift car off wheels, spin tires and listen at bearing area with stethoscope. (Back in the day we used a long, wood handled screwdriver. Ear to wood handle, blade on car part being listened to. Length amplifies sound so 18"-24"). While front end off ground, shake wheels top and bottom to test ball joints, side-to-side to check tie rod ends and steering links.
  11. I used to work with an automotive engineer. He told me the tire manufacturers run a spin balance on all tires at the end of production. The best are sent to OEM because they require less lead to balance. Anything out speck by a 1/2 oz or more went to aftermarket. There's no way to purchase tires intended for OEM as their under contract to deliver. I suppose if the tire mfgr had met their quota, you might get an OEM quality tire. No difference other than balance.
  12. 8 ratings with 1 review on Amazon. All ratings were 5 out of 5 stars. Problem with TireRack and Amazon ratings are ratings were done when the tires were new. I prefer reviews on tires with 5k on them. Not possible on new models however. Pirelli has a good reputation. I run Scorpions on both my cars. No complaints with several thousand miles each.
  13. P Need to post a picture of the car with Cash at the steering wheel. LOL
  14. My manual recommends placing the liftgate in manual mode, then it can be manually opened or closed. I have closed it manually whole still in auto mode, without problems.
  15. Lots of YouTube videos on repairing dents. Methods, materials, fillers, etc.
  16. Don't they recommend applying grease to the guide pins on these brakes?
  17. Inasmuch as this showed up after a transmission fluid change, one thing that comes to mind is a low transmission fluid level. Low fluid causes a feeling that the car is in neutral, as there's insufficient fluid to drive the vehicle under certain road conditions. Then corrects when fluid replenishes. Easy enough to check (and correct if found).
  18. Transmission speed sensor or harness, is about the only thing that I can think of that would be common to both systems.
  19. Just use your cell phone. Not as convenient but who doesn't always have a cell on them?
  20. There are options to do this, but all of them are aftermarket. Here's an example of one company that offers it: https://www.bestcaraudio.com/can-i-add-keyless-entry-to-my-car/#:~:text=Your local mobile enhancement retailer, integrated with a remote system.
  21. Well they replaced the passenger seat bottom TED unit. Wife used the cooling function this weekend. Stayed on 30 seconds and shut off. No heat, no cool. Same thing I took it for last week. Called 1st thing Tuesday morning and got it in Wed. They were able to work it in today and found the passenger seatback TED has failed. Another $800 (but still covered by extended warranty). Parts will be in next week. (Ya gotta love technology). At least it's gonna get fixed and that's the only thing wrong with the car. Need to get it detailed this year. Overdo for a good clay bar and polishing.
  22. Makes ya wonder what's lurking 'inside' da car. ? ? daaa ? da ? dum ? dum
