  1. To chime in on Vinny's point...I'd also recommended that once you install whichever catch can U choose U should also consider having your intake manifold pulled 2 have your intake ports & valves blast cleaned due 2 the lack of having a catch can, not a hard job but well worth it now that U have significantly mitigated the cause. Ref before & after Pics.

Are those images of your own vehicle, a Ford Edge Sport?

  2. Howie,

I appreciate your input, and as I said, I'm undecided on whether I need a catch can, and secondly what make, but some of the posters here were peddling assumptions (without first hand experience) presented as fact, and that I interpret as a "negative" review.

  3. I was going to post the exact same thing. you must have read my mind.

    JLT for me, good enough.

Informative response, not as funny but better.

Oh no.. you're on to me, aren't you?

I was going to post the exact same thing. you must have read my mind.

I've been undecided regarding a catch can from a few months before I purchased my 2017 Sport in March last year, and also undecided on which brand to use, and these posts have made me lean more towards the $500 kits, because they'd be far more value than a $140 kit that does not perform.

  4. .

I hope i at least answered 1 of your questions..

Nope, you haven't answered any of the legitimate questions, all you did was add to the list of assumptions trying to sell them as facts, and judging from the forum Moderators action, this is unlikely the first time.

  5. I purchased mine today from JLT. I'm positive it will do what it is supposed to. I can also say, that without testing both, it will be near impossible to compare with anything else. There won't really be any way to know what you're not catching in there. Weather, and driving habits seem to be a factor in how much junk they catch as well.

Overall, catching something is better than catching nothing, and as howie stated (and it sort of makes sense to me) on this type of vehicle, catching from 1 side will do the job for this application.

What is it that gives this confidence to say that you're positive that its going to work, when we haven't seen a decent engineering explanation on how it is intended to work on our particular engine?

Can you explain why catching from only one side is adequate vs the other manufacturers?

There seems to be many caveats for why we should not be surprised if it doesn't work.

I won't go into the details of how it works as there are forum members who have explained it well enough. JLT explains it on their website as well, and doing a google search will also get your questions answered.

Owner's who have spent over $300 and some in excess of $500 are understandably upset for thinking they needed to install such a complicated system. This particular system is just unnecessary for all but a few owner's who might track or race their vehicle. For the other 90% it is overkill and a huge waste of money. The JLT kit is very user-friendly and as mentioned above is very easy to install, and very easy to service.

I haven't see a detailed explanation showing how the JLT can works to compare it to the other manufacturers detailed animated graphics/schematics - JLT don't really explain the true workings of their system on their web site.

Haven't heard of any upset owners of the more expensive systems.

This JLT one has perked my interest, but I'll not be spending any money on it until the operating reviews or good, or detailed explanation convinces me that it actually works as they have it configured on the Edge Sport.

  7. I think I'll buy the one with the best value. ;)

I thinking the same, once I can confirm which one is the best value.

The $139 certainly perked my interest, but I'm holding out until I can find an explanation of the functional differences between it and the $550 ones, and a few reviews on how effective it is.

Edge over heated the other night.

In that case, I would do a compression test and let-down test, and while you have the plugs removed for that, check to see if any of them look steam cleaned.

Seldom that cylinder heads, and head gaskets survive an overheating incident.

  9. Is there any discernible difference between an 18 and 17? A dealer near me has a new 2017 that I'm sure has had a lot of test drives but I could probably get them to come down a fair amount on the price.

    Thanks for any info.

    Andy

What I've noticed at the dealership where I bought my 2017, is that they're selling quick enough for them not to consider significant discounts.

  10. It's not just a can. A good catch can is going to have a couple of different chambers/sections to have the gases to condensate & then collect after that. The el cheapo cans on ebay are usually just an open can with 1 inlet & outlet & nothing to allow the gases to compensate. There's a lot more to a catch can than just a can & piping. A good quality can like teamrxp.com's, you're paying for the quality of the welds & craftsmanship as the well as engineering/research that went into it. (would you really like the can to expand/exploded/leak after the system is pressurized or after a hard run(s)?) Also the teamrxp.com can has 3 connections while most have 2. The purpose is so that you're constantly catching all that gunk in boost & in vacuum, not many cans do that. Again, that's part of the engineering involved.

I'm not knocking anyone's product or choices, but i just wanted to make sure that people know that's it just more than a can that goes between intake manifold & pcv.

Would be interesting to hear a counter argument from JLT Performance who judging from Howie's post, can undercut the competitors prices drastically while equaling or exceeding the quality and performance.

  11. It's hard to believe that someone could come up with a product so far below the current going price, but it would most certainly draw a lot of interest.

Why don't they rent a Sport for a day to do the mock-up?

For $139 or thereabouts for the kit I would imagine there would be a huge amount of owners wanting to make this happen.

Right now I am trying to get these done for folks who don't have $400 or $500 to spend on an item that is necessary.

  12.

Ordered a billet one with standard hose. The braided hose cost to much and is unnecessary bling. Braided hose is great for high pressure or wear resistance. I paid $498.99 + shipping for a total of $517.99. If it prevents things like in these photos then it is money well spent . What is the use of porting heads or a 3 angle valve job if they collect junk like in these photos.

I've seen photos like that of carburetor engines - what's the origin of those?

  13. Changed the oil last night and took a look at the switch. It does appear to be leaking some. what is the fix for that just replace the switch?

Depends on where its leaking from, if its the mounting thread, then re-installing it with thread sealer should take care of it, but if the oil is coming from the electrical switch section, then a replacement is your only option.

If there's minor leakage at the mounting thread, its not going to give you false low pressure warnings, but if its leaking into the electrical switch it could be giving false indications.

Until the actual oil pressure is confirmed, I'd not drive the vehicle.

  14. Neighbor was telling me today that local Ford garage recommends a steam cleaning procedure for direct injection engines. Think he said they quoted him around $250 for the process. Cleans gunk on backside of valves.

    Anyone else heard about this?

Way back, my dad used to trickle flow water into hot running engines intakes and it would effectively de-carbonize the engine - I wonder if this procedure is something like that?

  15. Anyone running the HID setup on their 2015+ Edge?

I hear good things about the previous model year, but haven't found much info for those that have them on the gen 2 edge. I'm probably going to pick up a set. I don't do much night driving, and I never have them set on "auto", but I'm hoping the 6k drivebright will be closer to the white color of the signature lights rather than the current halogen "yellow"

    I'm pretty sure my 2017 Sport came with HID's - they're white.
