  1. Got some good news. As we know Ford OEM and all other rear mudflaps do not fit the 15+ Sport as the rear bumper is a little different. I did some looking and I found a set on Ebay that said it was just for the for Sport. I gave it a try and guess what? If fits the Sport great! If you are wondering why I wanted these I live up in northern IL and we get a lot of salt on the road on winter. With out flaps you can get a lot of damage over the years to your paint.

So far just installed the rear. They feel good quality. Only debate I have is since these touch the paint do I want to put some 3m clean vinyl protection between them and the paint.

Thanks for that - I'll be ordering a set.

Will take off the OEM front ones that don't fit very well.

  2. Part of the problem with the PTU is the fluid that Ford dictates as a lifetime product. This is the same PTU that Mazda uses and if you check a few of their forums you will see numerous complaints. At least Mazda did do somewhat right by their customers and offered an separate extended warranty on the PTU itself.

Ford, and a few others, do that to advertise fantastically low running/maintenance costs, ....... a gamble that didn't pay off.

Ford should also make replacement PTU with the drain hole. The middle eastern ones come with it. Its not like they have to reinvent the wheel.

The latest models, I think from 2017, do have a drain, so I'd expect them to use the latest revision for replacements on earlier models.

  3. I know I've been a little harsh but It's non productive to keep debating you on these issues and yes I do "know the answers" to those questions. My "questions" were rhetorical. Look at the big picture here; Ford did not resolve the PTU issue with over a decade of small inconsequential "fixes" and yes there have been failures on Gen 2. Read other Ford owner forums and internet sources and it becomes clear. I understand you trying to diminish my viewpoint of this problem, but nevertheless the fact remains that Ford has a dismal record of successfully taking care of this problem, and continues into the Gen 2 vehicles. Ford had a perfect opportunity when re-designing to the Gen 2 to permanently take care of the problem, but failed to do so.

Been a pleasure talking with you.

You never said what lubes you use.

No worries, have no issue with your decision not to engage in debate on an open public forum.

  4. Did Ford fix the problem from gen 1 then? Did Ford tackle the "real" problem of the PTU overheating, besides just putting a little air scoop under the vehicle? Not entirely from what I have read.

It sounds like you don't know the answers to those questions, but have nevertheless come to the conclusion that nothing has been done.

The changes that I'm aware of are increased oil capacity, cooling fins added to the casting, air scoop, oil temperature sensors, .......... and there may be more. Ford didn't broadcast those changes as far as I can tell.

Have you read any reports here of failures on the Gen-2 ?

  5. Not trying to debate who has the "best" products but Amsoil quality is undisputed, and yes for the most part you have to order it online from Amsoil. It's no problem for me as I order enough to last a year or so. You get what you pay for when buying automotive lubricants and would rather have peace of mind knowing I'm using the best products available. I have been astonished at the results using Amsoil for well over 30 years. Personal experience taking care of fleet vehicles and many others has taught me to use no other! Never was sold by all the hype from brands like Royal Purple and others, and please no comments as I'm not bashing RP, just saying Amsoil does not need marketing savvy to move product.

I've been using a good quality, reasonably priced, full synthetic, readily available oil for 30 plus years with amazing results, and no doubt would be saying the same if I'd made Amsoil my choice of lubricant.

  6. Is there someone out there that works for Ford or is a Ford mechanic that can shed some light what Ford is doing to address this issue.

Asking that question, and later comments suggests that you're assuming that the PTU remains unchanged from the Gen-1 Edge.

Just browsing this forum I have noticed that the latest generation has seen changes to the PTU.

  7. I have spent well over two months going over the info in this and other Ford forums and have reached a dismal conclusion. This PTU problem has gone on for over a decade with Ford just watching and not acting. When a manufacturer has a problem and they all do, address it and solve it. Put an engineering team on it and solve the problem! This PTU problem has really highlighted a serious problem with Ford in general, and that is the unwillingness to identify and address major problems and the lack of warranty support. I don't want to buy from a car from a company like that. Forget the 2019 Edge... there are too many other choices out there and I will not have to support Ford in the process.

Ford should be ashamed of it's lack of integrity, which is so clearly displayed across all the forums.

Of course you're free to express your personal opinions, but just from the time I've spent on this forum I get the impression that a large majority here are happy owners and most would likely buy another Edge, or any other Ford model.

I'd certainly buy another Ford Edge Sport, or ST.

Before buying, I get some guidance from forums etc. and that's what I did prior to buying my 2017 Sport, and just like any other manufacturer, there's negative posts, some rants, ...... but I've learnt to garner the truth in between all that.

Bad news travels way faster and wider than good news, and we are all old enough to see through media hype.

Now that you've decided against a Ford, what are you considering?

  8. Update from my side. Seems the leak is still there just not near as bad. Still smell the burning oil. Not very much drip on the garage floor like before. I believe the shaft output seal is no good and may need replaced as there is clearly fluid leakage coming from there. There used to be at the vent but I took care of that.

Is it possible that filling to the thread on the side plug is too much and it will cause leakage through the seal? Or is that not likely cause it's a lip seal and maybe just worn out. Car has 100k on it.

More likely a ridge worn in the shaft by the grit that was attracted by oil from the first leaking lip seal.

  9. Been using Amsoil products for over 30 years so I looked up the Amsoil replacement for the PTU fluid. Synthetic 75-140, and comes in a squeeze bottle for easy filling.

I don't doubt the quality of the product, but with so many other good quality products freely available at good prices, the effort to buy Amsoil isn't worth the hassle for me.

  10. Anyone checked this pipe on theirs?

Mine with 27K miles is bone dry.

This past weekend I did a 480 mile trip in 85 degF ambient and the JLT catch can collected a few milliliter of what looks and feels like reasonably clean oil.

As can be seen in my prior posts, I was very skeptical, but with this evidence I can confirm that the JLT catch can does work, and would most likely work even better in lower ambient temps.

  11. 2017 Sport with 28K miles.

Today I did a lube service, changed engine oil, PTU and RDU.

I've done a few PTU oil changes, so its expected that its oil still looked very good, and the first oil change on the RDU, which also looked good (yes I know, its way early for t he PTU and RDU).

I had to extend my oil extractor using a small silicone tube, but still got less than a quart out of it, and it took just less than a quart of Red Line 75W90.

The owners manual states 2.4 pt for the RDU - is there a special technique to extract more?

Also, the manual lists the PTU capacity at 11.8 oz , and I add about 85% of a quart jug.

  12. Question:

To assess whether the JLT catch can will work on your vehicle, pull the short hose off and inspect it internally, visually and with a Q-Tip, and if it is bone dry would that be a sign that your driving style does not require a catch can in this location?

  13. Welcome.

Looks great - I see a few minor differences to the US model such as the fog lamps in the signature LED's on the front bumper and the turn signal on the wing mirrors.

And the wing mirrors fold in, for the tighter parking that you have that side of the pond.

  14. Took a look at my seats today, and it looks like I already have the intake sock installed, so wonder what the dealership would do if I took it in for a warranty repair.

The picture shows the sock protruding from the bottom of the backrest.

I recall clearly that the seat and backs cooled very efficiently when I first bought the Sport, and now only the seats work.

@tmarsh were you able to restore the upholstery to look as new without baggy or loose sections?
