    What's included in this update?
    JR3T-14G381-AL SYNC3 v3.0

This software release is the latest update in our continued efforts to improve system performance, device connectivity, and the overall SYNC experience.

This software contains all previous enhancements, so there is no need to install any other updates. The installation of this update will take up to 60 minutes to complete. DO NOT remove your USB drive or turn off your vehicle. You must wait until Installation Complete is displayed on the center screen before removing your drive or turning your vehicle off.

While the update is loading, SYNC will not recognize your mobile phone or media device. Be sure your vehicle engine is running (not in accessory mode) throughout the entire installation process. Although your vehicle must be in park when you initiate the installation process, once the download process has begun, you may drive your vehicle.

For the 2.3 update I left my engine running - this requirement is crazy, and I'll give it a try with just the ignition on.

  2. I buy mine on Amazon. Cheaper and better selection. Normally I buy the ATP brand with carbon. Couple of years ago I went with OEM. On my filter, I didn't see any difference in number of pleats over aftermarket.

    I'll give them a try next time - https://www.amazon.com/automotive-FA-21-Carbon-Activated-Premium/dp/B01IW17N3U/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1521401090&sr=1-1&keywords=atp+cabin+air+filter+fa-21

  3. When I was searching for an Edge, a core criteria of mine was the 3.5 naturally aspirated V6 rather than an EcoBoost engine. I felt the naturally aspirated engine had nicer characteristics to drive (quieter at low RPM, smoother throughout, peak torque at a more familiar place at higher RPM), and I was also concerned about long-term reliability in a forced induction engine. The EcoBoost engines are great for fuel economy, but I'd rather trade that for a more enjoyable drive and less risk of the unknown on the reliability front.

    All the best,

    Andrew.

Sounds like you're describing my 2017 Sport 2.7L

BTW, the 2.7L fuel consumption is much the same as the 3.5L

The thing that put me off the 3.5 was the internal water pump and the many reports of the water pump failing and contaminating the engine oil.

  4. Some Ford engineers believe the PTU problems are due to heat but not external heat - just friction from a buildup of tolerances in the different parts when put together in one unit. They also say the PTU fluid is fine for 150K as long as it doesn’t overheat. But once it overheats it’s toast. Since you can’t really tell when the PTU overheats to the point that the fluid goes bad, changing it frequently is a good idea. But if you’re not overheating the PTU it’s not necessary.

The Sport has a temp sensor - not sure if there's an alert associated and at what temperature.

  5. I've paid extra for the cargo covers on a couple of vehicles just to have them sitting in the garage all the time. They were always getting in the way when trying to utilize the back area. Limited to what I could put under the cover.

    Just my $.02 with.

    Same experience here.

After it getting in the way each time we go shopping, its laying collecting dust in the corner of the garage.

  6. PTU cooling.....

The shield below the engine has a scoop to direct ambient air over the PTU for cooling. I don't know if this is something new or is it part of all Gen2 EDGE.

I don't know which models have that cooling arrangement, but can confirm that my 2017 Sport does not.

The parts diagrams show no drain plugs for any model PTU but the Sport's.

I think this photo does a better job of showing the drain at the very bottom of the finned PTU, pointing down.

See post #488 of a 2016 Titanium PTU, and it looks very different to yours.

If that is in fact the PTU, it looks more robust than the one on the Sport.

  8. My 2013 Edge Sport has been sitting at the dealership for a while and the dealer tells me they cant get the parts needed for the repair from Ford.

Start button does nothing but make a clicking sound under the hood.

Who can I contact at Ford about this ?

Any Ford service reps online ?

See if you can get the part numbers from them and try Amazon where a few dealerships sell parts, and if they have it then it looks like your dealership is giving you the run-around.

  9. I have not seen a photo of the PTU on the Sport so I don't know how it differs from mine. This drain is on the bottom of the PTU at it's lowest point pointing down to the ground. Do you have a photo of the Sport version? In looking at this image again I can see why you thought it was not at the low point, it appears to be on the side in this photo but it is on the bottom, my camera is pointed up and to the right slightly as I lay on the ground.

That photo shows a plug on the side which definitely doesn't look like the lowest point, unless its the orientation of the photo.

See photo 5 in post 466 in this thread - that is the Sport PTU and the drain plug facing the floor.

    Same comment made below.

Interesting. I didn't take a picture, but on my 2017 sport, the drain plug is in a different location, at the very bottom, pointing down. When drained I got 22oz.

  10. I crawled under my 2016 EDGE Titanium 2.0L AWD to have a look at the PTU. I was pleasantly surprised to find that my PTU has a drain. I was not happy to find that the PTU was leaking where the passanger side drive shaft exits the PTU. This EDGE was 1 year old yesterday and it only has 7100 miles. In one of the attached images the leak can be seen along with the fill plug just above that. The other image shows the drain plug which is on the bottom of the PTU pointing straight down. This PTU looks different than other photos I have seen of PTU's. This PTU has fins and both fill and drain plugs are torx.

That's not a low point drain as found on the Sport, so you'll still need an extractor to get what remains after you drain from that plug.

I wonder why they did it like that, why not a drain plug as seen on the Sport?

  11. Enigma, that was the first question I asked and was told it would void the warranty of the new PTU. It was also suggested that I wait until the warranty period is up, and then install the drain. This was fairly easy and I figure I will put on less 15,000 miles in the 2 year period.

Does the Sport PTU fit - I know it's water under the bridge, but just asking, because it has the drain plug.

  12.

I am driving it like a miser, coasting stops, using momentum, etc... also, doing this transporting thing I am driving half the time at 5am so pretty clear and green lights. display read 14.7 l/100. Actually it was a whopping 17.87 in reality; 13.1 mpg us. [16 mpg us]

Either your definition of driving like a miser is off, or you need to find a new competent dealership to fix it - I get a steady 22 mpg us without driving too economically.

    I use exclusively Costco Premium.

    14.7L/100km = 16 mpg us

  13. You're not kidding about the flow. I had the same issue with my oil catch nearly not keeping up!

I bought a 5 gallon jug of Royal Purple synthetic so i'm in the same boat as you, finding old laundry detergent bottles and a few random 1qt empty bottles

I bought a great 5 gal drain pan, and decant it into my Harley low profile drain pan to cart it off to AutoZone.
