  1. Just curious... why does the guy keep his hands so close to the steering wheel while assist parking? Doesn't show a high level of confidence...
  2. Geez, I know our Canadian dollar is down, but we're paying $112.95/hour in Montreal. That's $90 US. Adds to the point that service is good money.
  3. As I understand it, service is very lucrative, if it sees important and regular traffic. Psychologically, the most emotional moment of owning a car is the purchase. If a dealer advertises at Invoice less $x, that would get my attention and probably motivate me in servicing my car there. If the dealer can create enough volume with this approach, then I guess it could make sense. But it's all about generating volume.
  4. From Canada, I’ve been using CarCostCanada (CCC) sine 2008. Best investment I ever made. Here’s what CCC says: Wholesale Price - Also referred to as the Dealer Invoice Price, Dealer Factory Price or Dealer Cost. The price the dealer pays for the car, before adjusting for any applicable Factory Incentives. To start your negotiations, take this number, add a fair dealer markup/profit (3%-6% on most cars) and deduct any applicable factory incentive You first need to get to the wholesale price. You also need a high volume sales rep (versus margin). Here’s my approach: 1- Don’t expect an unrealistic discount, like $5000 on a $50000 vehicle. Margins and wiggle room have narrowed quite a bit since my first car purchase some 45 years ago. 2- I find that the sales rep has control over the margin (wholesale – retail), while the dealership owner has control over the hold back (2-3%) and the two don't cross territories 3- Determine the wholesale price and come prepared with supporting numbers 4- I don’t chew into the hold back. First, it’s very difficult, second these guys need some margin to survive, and I don’t want them to later get back at me on service 5- Find a high volume sales rep. Mine is very transparent and is OK with $1000 over wholesale. I believe that puts me just under X pricing 6- I leave alone the various incentives I think the sales rep gets; example: kick back on X pricing, on purchase financing (if <0%, obviously). He needs to make a living too… and still be there at my next purchase 7- Once you've found a high volume sales rep, it’s OK to look around at your next purchase, but it makes so much sense to go back to him: less negotiating time and maybe he’ll shave a few $100’s for a repeat customer I’ve acquired 3 Edge’s with this approach and, on average, get between $3000 and $4000 off the retail pricing, depending on factory rebates before taxes. Yes, I could probably squeeze a bit more. But the more you squeeze, the less prone the sales rep will be to stand by you should a major issue arise. I've seen my sales rep walk across to the service department and get some charges dropped that were legit but that I thought unfair.
  5. It's a child safety thing, like safety belt not buckled warning. But yes it's a pain. They could have put in a resistance sensor instead to avoid strangling your kid (who shouldn't be sticking out his head while your other kid jokingly tries to shut the moon roof on his beloved brother, just to see what happens )
  6. The 2015 Edge Owners Manual (v1), while recommending 87, has this notice: Premium unleaded gasoline will provide improved performance and is recommended for severe duty usage, for example a fully loaded vehicle. So does this mean the 2015 Edge does in fact have programming to accommodate the higher octane? The manual also says this: Running out of fuel can cause damage not covered by the vehicle Warranty. Can anyone explain this?
  7. That IS exactly what I ordered ... and I too wish the 2.7 was part of the deal.
  8. I agree LED is more expensive, although pricing is coming down dramatically as volumes grow. With the steady increase of gadgets available now, saving a few watts with LED here and there keeps the battery load under control. My real point was why leave out the front directionals while everything else went LED?
  9. Wonder why the rear directions are LED while the front ones are still incandescent? And then the license plate one. I mean, if you're going LED, go all the way. But I suspect there is a legitimite reason for this. Anyone?
  10. Great idea to introduce a front facing camera. Great idea to have it spray washed. So why wasn't the same great logic applied to the back camera? I speculate most will use the back camera way more often than the front. For us "lucky" individuals enjoying snow and slush in the winter, how many times have you found the back camera useless because of the s**t covering it? The washer liquid for the back window flows a few inches away!!
  11. You're right, they are different, but the only difference I found was that the US one shows 302A including 60T, while in Canada they are separate. Has the Jan 31st edition been shared on this forum?
  12. Including the just ordered 2015, this will be my 3rd Edge (2011, 2008), all purchased new and serviced from the same dealer. I've been purchasing/leasing new cars over the last 46 years: Chevrolet, Dodge, Pontiac, AMC (Javelin), but never Ford for some unknown reason. When I got around to buying the first Edge, attracted by the technology part, I thought maybe I should have looked at Ford earlier: I was impressed with quality and value. Prior to every Edge purchase, I look again at Infinity, Lexus, BMW, add up the options and consistently come up with "why should I pay more money (+$10-20k) for the same? Paying for status is not part of my values, so Ford again. The other Plus is my dealership: the service reps are truly working for my benefit. There was one instance where my brake disks were warped way too soon; Ford Canada wouldn't allow warranty coverage. Well, my service rep found a way to 'solve' the issue, no cost to me.
  13. Just ordered my 2015 Titanium AWD, magnetic/cognac, with everything except Driver's package (51D). My sales guy expects it in early June, given the slow start (billing, lot stock, etc.). I should mention I'm in Canada. I guess it all depends on how they decided on the allocations (US/Canada/World).
  14. Just noticed my current 2011 AWD has a 19.2 g. fuel tank (so did the 2013) while the 2015 AWD on order is 18.5. Lower capacity = redesign?
  15. When you mention "the latest Order Guide", is there one more recent than Nov 1st 2014?
  16. Sales volumes will vary, depending on a large set of factors. A part manufacturer negotiates a contract for quantity 'x' over so many years, but then that model defies all predictions and the car manufacturer now anticipates 'x' * 2. I would be inclined to think that the car manufacturer would go back to the part manufacturer and renegotiate a lower price on the basis of the new volumes; or that may already be in the initial contract. Either way, the car manufacturer's cost would go down in this scenario. Now, whether the car manufacturer will pass this saving onto its future clients is unsure...
  17. REALLY looking forward for those numbers, being a few months away from ordering my 2015. Traditional V6 or EB2.0...
  18. Link #25 from WWWPerfA_ZNOW above is interesting. The SHO owner's Sync 3 hardware already has the Sync 3 software; unless he got a beta. Although I would like to believe so, I don't think we would get the Sync 3 hardware running Sync 2 (until Sync 3 is ready). But I'd like very much to be corrected
  19. Then any chance that the Sync 3 gets introduced in mid-production 2015? My lease is up in May, so wondering if I might get Sync 3 being later in the production year.
  20. I use the Navigation all the time; only once have I seen it position the car off the road and after a few minutes it corrected. I use Voice recognition quite often, in French on top of that: the issue I see is being constrained by the available vocabulary and syntax. Not much flexibility in recognition, most probably because of available processing power. We're told Sync3 will be closer to natural language: we'll see. I've never had an issue with the reverse cam, nor interior lighting, nor with all the issues reported here. The issue I have had is with the software and, as others have said, 3.6 seems to bring it to an acceptable level. So, why have I been so "lucky" ? Obviously, forums are ideal to vent one's frustration or to ask others if they have had a similar experience. I also read about bad experience with dealerships: why not ask around and switch? So, I really think it's great that people post their issues, just in case I come across one of them in the future. I understand people expressing their frustration, for a short while. What I find difficult is reading from people that relentlessly post negative, nonconstructive comments. It gets tiring and it begs the question: why don't you get rid of that "trash Ford" ? Why are you still posting here? Maybe tied to a lease? Maybe psychologically inclined to confront? In any case, those people made their point months, years ago. So what's the objective with this continuous bashing? Am I totally satisfied with my Edge? No, I can see too many ways to improve this rig. Has anyone compared the Edge to a BMW, Lexus, Infinity or whatever only to realize that the others cost several thousands more (try $10-20k) for equivalent features? Nonetheless, from my perspective, it's the best ride in terms of ratio: price to technology and comfort.
  21. User manual, p.68: same button as rear window defroster
  22. It's a 2 step Open procedure. BTW when it stops half way, you only need to press once more (not hold) for it to open 100%.
  23. Waldo beat me to it, but as I discovered yesterday, after almost 4 years of swearring at the triangle, it needs a 1 second persistent touch to activate/disactivate. No mention of this in the 2011 Manual.
  24. I think this issue was raised in another post a year or so back. I have the same issue on my 2011 Limited, very annoying. And as Autom8r mentioned, I too use the hazards to alert drivers of a dangerous situation (hard braking or whatever). My personal opinion is the ridge on the triangle reduces the contact surface, so it's a hit and miss every time for me.
