Ugh, that's no good. I'll probably keep my options open. I have been having pretty good luck buying lightly used tires on eBay. Hell I can't even remember the last time I bought a new tire.

Any chance these are still available? I live in Louisville. Any idea of the mileage expectancy of these? OEM tire compounds aren't necessarily the same as the replacement tires you'd get from a tire retailer, even if they're the exact same time.

SYNC3 V3.4.43 officially released
dolsen replied to ONEDGE16's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Well I used the cyanlabs update file and it worked beautifully. Took about 30 minutes for the full update from 3.0 to 3.4 and maps from 1.16 to 1.19. -

That does not appear to be a viable option for vehicles that did not come with Sync 3 from the factory. As of now, cyanlabs appears to be my best bet -

What does it take to perform the update on vehicles that were swapped from MFT to Sync 3? Right now I am looking at cyanlabs to download the latest useable version of Sync 3.4, but I'm not entirely sure that is the best path to take -
2019 Ford Edge Titanium Paint Cracking and Peeling
dolsen replied to TitaniumRob's topic in Exterior & Body
Well, one thing that is known to happen is if you impregnate aluminum with steel filings (through sanding the metal imperfections) then it can cause galvanic corrosion under the paint. However, I have not seen this issue happen this quickly. The article is from October 2015 and vehicles referenced were 2012's, which makes them most likely around 3 years old (depending on when they're manufactured). The edge in question is a 2019, which makes me believe it is around 1-1.5 years old. I have to agree with 1004ron, I do not believe it is the same issue. -
2019 Ford Edge Titanium Paint Cracking and Peeling
dolsen replied to TitaniumRob's topic in Exterior & Body
Hmm the only way I could see the cracking happening from the factory would be if the paint was over baked, but two things would usually occur with that: 1) paint would be darker (can't tell because it's black) and 2) it wouldn't be so localized (it would likely be very large patches or all over the vehicle). Is it just the top coat coming off or is the primer and ecoat coming off as well? -
Well I bought my 2015 sport two months ago with 76k miles and now its at 83k miles

If the VINs are not above 350 yet, theyre still likely in proveout phases and none have been made for the masses yet. Being closest to the assembly plant does not give Canada priority. What usually dictates priority is dealer volume and customer demand.

Understood, but you are operating off of a lot of assumptions here. Selling more units does give potential of having higher failure rates if EVERYTHING else is exactly equal, but there are just too many factors at play here to assume that ford has the same failure rate as Mazda. You are well within your right to never buy another Ford and dislike Ford. Dont think Im trying to deter you from that. Im simply playing devils advocate and trying to understand your opinion.
-
Tk2fast, do you know what percentage of AWD vehicles have had issues? I think this would largely dictate the need for extended warranties or product changes. I do not, but maybe Mazda had a much higher failure rate and that is why they took action. There are a number of factors that go into design changes, not just anecdotal

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
dolsen replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I purchased 4 used 265/40R21 Pirelli A/S tires off ebay for $485 shipped to the house, all having between 8-10/32nds tread. I inspected the tires and they all look good (no excessive wear or even tire repairs. Received today and I plan to get them installed this weekend. I've always had good luck buying used tires on ebay. Xtra, just a thought for next time/next set -
This is the article I remembered reading. In the first paragraph is says American Axle signed a contract with ford. I read that as This is a new relationship and new AWD supplier. I do not know who the current supplier is, so maybe the article is referring to a contract extension?
-
If I am not mistaken, Ford is going with a new supplier for the AWD systems for 2019 on the Edge. I'll see if I can find some information.

Premium gas vs. regular: what's really better
dolsen replied to enigma-2's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
Thats too long for me to watch at work. Can you give me a synopsis? -
Cost is always a factor, but the only engineering required would have a been a bit of tuning. Its not like they had to invent it for the Edge. Ford had annual price increases, even without content increases and continuously has higher than market average transaction prices. The price of these vehicles is getting out of hand
-
Fair enough, in that case Im inclined to agree with you. I prefer the sport designation over ST. I thought making an edge ST was a bit gimmicky anyways. But I dont see it being a warmed over version of the edge sport, I see it being a massive performance upgrade to the Edge lineup. Btw, it gets an additional 20 hp and 30 lbft, and an 8 speed automatic, which should help even more so than the power upgrades due to being able to be more in the center of the power band. I dont understand why they went away from the continuously variable damping. That actually really bothers me, especially with the price increase.
-
@max83_za: You dont want it to be called an ST because thats just a warmed over version of a bland model. But the replacement for the edge sport, by your own admission, is essentially going to be a warmed over version of the Ford Edge. So by definition, doesnt the new Edge ST fall exactly in line with you definition of ST? Did I get that right? Or am I missing something?

Large power deficit compared to the 2.7 and the AWD grip for launch MORE than compensates for the parasitic losses of the AWD drivetrain -

12s is pretty impressive for a 4400lb brick in the wind edge. What wheels do you have? -
I have to agree with this. This isnt like ford of the 90s and 00s where a small badge change and remapping the ECU is considered a performance model (Adrenalin sport trac, 08 Bullitt mustang come to mind immediately). I dont think the 3.0 EB wouldve been out of place or too much to ask. Its already 2 years old and is based off of the 2.7. So it should still fit in the engine compartment. I think the power band couldve been shifted around to prevent power train damage or wheel slip and it wouldve been just fine.
-
Isnt it currently a transverse engine? In both of its applications? (MKZ and Continental are the only two that come to mind, but I could be wrong)
-
I dont believe anyone can really answer those questions pertaining to the vehicles performance for another couple months. With that said, more horsepower, more cylinders, more turbos, and less weight is always a good thing. I would request those changes for sure... but that goes for ANY car. But Im performance nut!
-
I dont plan on getting drilled or slotted rotors (too much brake dust and Im not a fan of the mild vibrations). Are all steel rotors the same, or is the a difference in the cast rotors vs cryo rotors, or any other heat/cold treatment?
-
Not that much. I was thinking like if there was some OEM takeoffs that would fit from a Taurus or something. I know they have an upgraded brake kit on the SHO as an option. Definitely NOT looking to spend $3k+. I think a rotor and pad upgrade is what Ill be aiming for... or take off performance package brakes from an ST if anyone actually removes them
