2011 Ford Edge Sport finally dyno'ed ... not impressed with results
Waldo replied to scuubydoo3's topic in Mods & Tech
The size of the wheel should make no difference on the dyno, though it will make a difference in acceleration times. What this result tells me is that your CAI and exhaust are doing more harm than good. If you can get that much improvement from some simple tuning, then it means it was really screwed up to start with. -
If it really bothers you that much, why not just pay them to replace the pump? That's gotta be cheaper than hiring a bunch of lawyers and wasting all your time. If it were me though, I'd just try a different dealer.

Wind buffeting from rear window
Waldo replied to Doug-J's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
When air flow's past an opening in a closed container, it creates a vacuum. In the past (probably most of the cars you been driving in 60 years), cars just weren't sealed up that well, so the vacuum could pull air through the car from all the different leaks. Now with such a focus on NVH, automakers are sealing up cars better than ever before. So there aren't enough leaks in the car to supply enough air to prevent the buffeting noises anymore. There's really almost nothing anyone can do to design around this. -
Katherine, the MKX adaptive cruise control system uses radar. Radar will always have some false activations, it's just the nature of the technology. Motorcycles especially are difficult to detect and can trick the system. But it is not possible for the system to "lock the brakes". The amount of braking the system can do on it's own is limited. While it might feel like your slowing down incredibly fast, it's just a perception because you aren't prepared for it. Anyone behind you who's not dangerously tailgating can easily slow down fast enough to avoid running into you.

If you crash your 4-day old car, should that be covered by the warranty too? Not saying this glass shouldn't be covered - it very well could be a defect, but questions must be asked, because it absolutely could be damage that wasn't Ford's fault.
-
You can't complain about the cost of the MKX and then ask for all these things on the Edge. If the Edge came with everything you wanted, the cost would be more than the MKX and the mileage would be worse from all the extra weight!

Big tires like the ones on the Edge will result in more roll. You should always use the parking brake on hills anyway.

Your problem is described exactly in TSB 11-5-6 (published May 10th. Take it back to the dealer and have them perform this TSB (it's a software flash and a modification to the valve body in the transmission). Then everything will be fine.

The SD cards (and Sync services) use the TeleNav database not Navteq. Navteq is on the older Pioneer and Clarion systems (07-10 Edge). But I wouldn't be surprised if it's really a MFT issue. Do you have the latest software?

Cold air intake or just K&N for better fuel economy?
Waldo replied to rltrbill's topic in 2010 Edge & MKX
As akirby points out, your car already has a huge restriction in the air intake system - the throttle. The only way an air filter can flow "more air" is by filtering less. -
Peak torque is one thing, actual useable torque is quite another. A 2.0L is still a 2.0L until the boost comes in. And once you're in the boost, the efficiency drops like a rock. Not sure where you get the 20 more ft/lbs of torque either, most estimates are the 2.0L will be 250ft/lbs, the V6 is 253.

The software is all the same. This particular Canadian dealer just happens to know how to do it.

Only if you buy a used one.

PTU not covered by the powertrain warranty??
Waldo replied to centeryourmind's topic in All Wheel Drive (AWD)
It mentions transfer case (and all internal parts). The PTU seal should be considered an internal part of the transfer case. -
Could be a bunch of things, but it sounds like a single build/manufacturing issue, not a design issue. Boom issues can be cause by roof bows not bonded, liftgate fit, ground out subframe mounts or just about any sealer skip/ missing weld in the body. But based on the conditions you describe, it sure sounds like either a bad motor mount or a ground-out in the exhaust somewhere. Does your dealer know how to neutralize engine mounts?

2011 Sport Edge (help with buying from U.S.of A.
Waldo replied to sonyguy19's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Sync services doesn't work in Canada, period. Cars are built all over the world and shipped across continents. Every vehicle is built knowing the destination it is going to be shipped to and is built to that spec. Thus it doesn't matter where the Edge is built, if it's sold as a retail unit in the US, it will not have DRL enabled. Perhaps your dealer ordered DRL through a fleet code? Does it show option 942 on the invoice or window sticker? -
It's just like the cable companies. I can't get some channels because I don't pay for them. It's not hardware that blocks them, it's software. If you pay for the software, you get the features. Ford just hasn't found a way yet to properly get paid for adding full navigation after the fact. The Sync directions system and the full navigation system are really two totally separate things, though they do use the same GPS. GPS has been a part of Sync since 2010MY though, it's part of the 911 assist feature.

Pulls To Right When Accelerating (2011 Edge Limited FWD)
Waldo replied to silverknight's topic in Owner Impressions
All front wheel drive vehicles pull to the right when accelerating. It's called torque-steer and is inherent in the design of FWD. Some cars are better than others though and the Edge isn't particularly good. -
Missing grommets usually result in high frequency noise, low frequency is more likely a ground out. I'd focus on neutralizing the engine mounts and subframe.
-
Could be any one of a million things, but it's probably just one thing. Could be as simple as a missing grommet or plug somewhere. Could be a ground out in the exhaust. Could be a leak in the exhaust. Have they tried neutralizing the engine mounts and subframe? Could be that some part like a dash insulator, baffle or something was "missed". Dynamat isn't going to do anything for you. Usually when you have an error state like this, you can't mask it. It's kind of like a leaky pipe. You might have a hundred joints that are perfect, but if just one of them is bad, you're still getting wet.
-
Sure they can, if they are plugged. However they don't plug themselves, it has to be a symptom of a different problem, not the root cause.
-
Well obviously your body shop guy is not an engineer. When you design a car for crash impacts, you have two opposite directives. One is to prevent damage (deflect energy) in low speed collisions. The second is to absorb energy in high speed collisions. The bumper beam is designed to deflect energy in low speed collisions. In high speed incidents, it just passes the energy forward into the unibody structure of the vehicle. So in a major collision, the damage to car and passengers would be no different if the beam is there or not.

That sounds about right. Are you leaving the vista roof shade open? The system uses outside temperature in it's programming, and we haven't been too hot outside yet, so it's never going to ramp up to full fan until it's over 90 outside. But sometimes leaving the roof shades open is enough to get the cabin a little hotter than the system thinks it should be.

I imported 4 cars when I moved back to Canada after living in the US for a while. It wasn't nearly as bad as some people think it would be, but I did already own the vehicles first. Have you found a way to get out of paying the state sales tax in WA?
