Coming soon,... new paint job!
igcitng replied to Loosecannon's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I can picture it and I love it! Very Batmobile. -
That is exactly what the picture on the TSB shows. I think I will have them do it, I am tired of yelling to talk on Sync. Thanks so much for the post.

You are cracking me up. I think that anyone here that says they do not like the look would actually be impressed and like it if they saw it. Maybe it is not right for them but could appreciate it for what it is. When I saw the vette at the show I was shocked to see a paint job like that, did not know it existed but really liked it. If I had a vette I would likely stay with a traditional paint job but I still drooled over the satin. Hurry up and get it painted we want to see it! -
Good article, thanks. That explains a lot. It is below 45 here for 4-5 months out of the year. Previously I had a ZR2 Blazer with BF's on it and it would burn through snow and really grab the road (when the 4WD was working that is) and I was shocked when I drove my Edge in the snow for the first time. I made the dumb assumption that they would put an appropriate tire on an AWD vehicle. Guess that is not the way it works. Thanks again akirby.

Interesting, did not know that cold affected them like that. It does get awful cold here. If I replaced the tires I would definitely go with winter tires. My Edge just turned 19k today, and I would really like to get a 2012 next year if things go well with the new design so I will do my best to get thru another winter with them. Thanks akirby.

I was given a copy of a TSB for the Sync system in the 2008-2009's. It is regarding the sound quality of the microphone. I have always had trouble with mine where the person on the other end cannot hear me unless I turn the volume up to max and yell what I am saying, and I have never been able to use the voice recognition feature, the phone always calls someone else. The TSB says that the fix is installaing a new microphone next to the overhead console on the headliner. Makes sense, it would be a little closer. My understanding is that the microphone is currently in the rear view mirror area, and for those of us that are shorter, that is a good distance away from us. Has anyone had this fix done and does it work? Is it worth asking to have it done? Thanks.

I have the Latitudes and last winter I would lose traction on turns, very frustrating. Not sure if a tire with a treadier sidewall would help? I am not a fan of all season tires.

I forgot to ask-are you keeping the same wheels? Will you have a satin finish on the Edge and a shiny finish on the wheels? -

What is the care and feeding of a paint job like this? Is it as durable as other paint? -
An iPod plugged into the usb works great, needs to be rebooted once in awhile. The BT streaming is not completely compatible with the Sync/My Ford systems. It will stream and you can use the volume but not the fast forward/back buttons.

My sister has a Torrent and had the same problem. New brakes and rotors did the trick. We originally thought it was the tires and alignment, but the rotors were warped and she only had about 35k on it, so were not expecting it to be the rotors. She is really hard on the brakes.

I was at the Bloomington Gold Corvette show in June and saw a Vette with a black satin paint job and it was stunning, I could not take my eyes off of it. -
Is it the Mercon that has the horrible smell or the oil? The PTU on my 2008 was fixed this spring and I am anxious about whether or not it will go again when the cold Chicago weather hits. Supposedly my Edge got the 'new and improved' seal.
-
That is worse than I originally pictured. Just yesterday there was a Toyota suv behind me with a scoop similar to that and I could not look away it was so hideous and out of place.
-
Just a thought, is one of the sensors lose and/or hanging down?
-
Did you recently rotate the tires? Mine was fine and after the first rotation pulled strong to the left. They switched them around again and it has been fine. Mine had been sitting awhile when I bought it, so assuming it was from that.

I got the Armor All off of the interior with the Meguires car wash soap and water. It was on every surface inside, even the back. The only areas that it did not come off completely is the little tray that sits on the top of the dash, and the steering wheel is still a little slippery. Not sure why, but I will try again. Whatever this stuff was turned the water the color of diluted beer. Had to change the water four times before I was finished. I do not think there was any damage, it looks like it originally did. Thanks for your help guys, I appreciate it very much.
-
I definitely do not want a shine. The shine from the dash is right in my line of sight right now, never had a problem before. And I do not have leather seats. Last nite I bought Meguires car wash soap and I am going to go at it tonite when I get home. Some of it came off with water so I am hopeful that using soap will make for a quick cleanup.
-
Does it leave a residue?
-
No worries, I figured the water part out. Wasn't sure on the 'mild' soap. I considered the dishsoap but wasn't sure. And your hair analogy is hillarious. That I can relate to.
-
I am liking the 2x4 idea. With a nice big framing nail hammered thru one end of it. Thanks so much guys, I really appreciate the help. I am going to try to at least get the front cleaned up tonite so I can drive without being covered in it. I will report back with how successful I am.
-
Yay, bbf to the rescue! Thank you! I hope I didn't already dull or rub off any of the finish, did not realize that could happen. What qualifies as a mild soap? I would like to try that before using a vinyl cleaner. I am super sensitive to chemicals and the Armor All is bad enough already without adding more.

I took my Edge to the carwash Friday, one of the two places I always go. I always ask them to wash, vaccum, dust the dash and dress the tires and have never had a problem. When they were done with it Friday the interior-EVERY square inch of it was covered in Armor All. I tried to rub some off. Some areas it came off a little and some not at all. The steering wheel is covered in it and so am I when I get in and out of the car. What is the antidote for it so I can wash it off. I hate having anything on the interior, I always use a Swiffer and wipe it down with a damp cloth, have never put that stuff on any car I have ever had. This is a nightmare. If I call the carwash to ask them I don't think I could even talk to someone without letting loose on them I am so mad. I appreciate any help you can give, thanks.

Yes but it is very easy to find. It is on the drivers side down toward the floor where the door and front fender meet, by the hinges you could say. There is a little door on it. Near the parking brake.
