  1. Earlier this year there was an article about Ford coming out with an update for AppLink. This update would allow owner's of certain 2010 (I believe) and newer models to upgrade to the AppLink, BUT MFT vehicles would not be able to do the upgrade. I even posted about that in reply #4. Reading some other forums for the Ford F150 and Explorer, I just ran across this post from Rebecca. I hadn't seen this information anywhere else, and hope it happens. Hey everyone! We still plan to get AppLink into vehicles with MFT Rebecca __________________ FORD IN-VEHICLE TECHNOLOGY TEAM p: 800.392.FORD (Prompts 1 then 3) t: @FordService @Ford f: facebook.com/FordExplorer facebook.com/Ford
  2. I think I got a Texas sized gas tank since the car is here in Dallas!
  3. I have in the past put more than 18 gallons of gasoline into my 2013 FWD Edge which has the 3.5 engine. I never really thought about it much but was finally curious enough to see what the fuel tank capacity is. The FWD is listed as 18 gallons, and the AWD is listed as 19 gallons. Today once again I put in over 18 gallons, and the fuel used information on the dash showed I used 19.35 gallons, and still had miles to go before empty. I squeezed in 18.83 gallons, and that hand calculated to 24.65 MPG. The dash showed 23.9 MPG with the 19.35 gallons it thought it used. Only thing I can figure is my Edge is making it's own fuel somehow! And yes, I am sure I have a FWD Edge.
  4. Check your power steering fluid. I know some Edge's have had a problem with one of the high pressure steering hose crimps. It leaks and at one time there was a national back order for the hose. The power steering does use transmission fluid.
  5. Too bad you had the aggravation of a faulty new tire. Discount Tire racks up there as one of the BEST places to deal with for any tire needs or problems in my option. I was out of town in Oklahoma City this past week and my 5000 miles came up for tire rotation. I stopped at a DT there in town and had the tires rotated and balanced with no charge. I had swapped tires about two years ago at a DT here in Dallas and got the lifetime rotation and balance as part of the swap. They have also repaired several flats for me over the years with no charge, even if I didn't buy the tire from them or have their protection plan. Great company to deal with. Hope this takes care of your problem vibration.
  6. Within the last two weeks, I've removed the hood prop rod and added real hood struts, changed the oil and oil filter plus the air filter and added a Fumoto oil drain valve in place of the drain plug cleaned the inside of the wheels and tires, scrubbed the outside of the wheels with Tuf Shine cleaner (each tire took 5-7 scrubbings to remove all traces of dirt and previous silicone tire dressings), applied Tuf Shine Tire Dressing, had Discount Tire rotate and balance the tires, and received my Dr Color Chip touch up kit to be used later this week. Almost forgot one of my favorite additions are the DRL's from Dan that I installed sometime in March or April! Darn, I need a rest!
  7. Welcome to the club! Many of your questions have been answered on other posts already, so searching will provide plenty of answers. When I first found this forum, I spent several days reading just about every topic that was listed in the sub categories that interested me. Found a lot of good information, and some things I ended up doing that I never even thought of. DRL's from Dan, hood struts to replace the prop rod, a screen protector for the navigation screen, different wheels to replace the 20 inch chrome clad factory wheels (read too many posts about curb rash and no fix for those wheels), and several other tips and projects. Wasn't planning on any of those, but found them just by reading and searching. Good luck, and if you have any specific questions, you can post them in the different categories that might get more replies.
  8. Right in the brochure that can be found by following the link that Tricia posted are these disclaimers Components and Repairs Not Covered by PremiumCARE Buttons, carpet, clamps, dash pad, door and window handles, knobs, trim, upholstery, CNG/LPG components, tires, water leaks, wind noise, weatherstrips, fabric, liners, zippers and fasteners Owner Maintenance Requirements Service adjustments and cleaning, software upgrades, fixed (non-moving) body parts, batteries of all types and cables, belts, hoses, hose clamps, brakes (front hub, drums, shoes, linings, disc rotors, pads), manual transmission clutch disc, coolant, exhaust system (including catalytic converter), filters, fluids, lubricants, lights (bulbs, sealed beam, lenses), spark plugs, spark plug wires, squeaks and rattles, tires, tune-ups, wheel balancing, wheel alignment, LED lights, shock absorbers and compressed natural gas/liquid propane fuel system conversion component There is no reason the dealer or Ford should have denied this coverage. The hoses listed are maintenance items (heater hoses, radiator hoses, etc) and not power steering hoses which are NOT a maintenance item. I have in the past had two repairs denied under my Premium Care ESP. Both times I contacted the ESP department themselves, and had the items covered with no problem after talking to them. Ford is so sure of the extended warranty that they say something to the effect that it is easier to list those items not covered. Using those items listed, there is no way these are NOT covered.
  9. Have you looked at all of the posts regarding the PTU and the problems owner's have written repairs for? There is a lot of information if you take the time to search through them. For starters, here is one previous discussion with excellent feedback. Without seeing pictures of your car or the leak you have, it would only be a guess as to what your exact problem is. Reply #14 especially may help you out. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/10914-ptu-leak-failures/
  10. I never found any online, especially for the newest or newer models. I do have a 2013 Ford Service manual DVD listed for sale in the classified section.
  11. My manual for my 2013 has the info on page 338. The pilot hole is just the opening on the wheel from what the illustration is showing. You inspect it to remove rust or loose particles which will interfere with the fit of the wheel over the hub on the axle itself. The mounting surface is on the face of the hub where the wheel sits against once you tighten the lug nuts. Again, any rust or particles could cause the wheel to not sit correctly. I don't recall if the wheel opening (pilot hole) is tapered to help it fit over the hub, but that might be why it is being called a pilot hole. Or the fact it was built in Canada, eh?
  12. I'm not sure what year the Edge quit putting a hard drive in the radio that you could copy your CD's onto. I loved that feature in my wife's Acura. My 2013 Edge does not have a hard drive or 6 disc CD player, which I believe were available up until 2013? I am enjoying the USB, BT streaming of Slacker, Pandora, etc to the radio I do have in it.
  13. The first picture shows the curb rash which appears to be light damage. Other than appearance, I don't think the structure of the wheel has been compromised. Vibration when driving, loss of air pressure, or pulling to one side would indicate wheel damage. Between the 11 an 12 O'clock postilion in that first picture, you can see the valve stem. On the inside of the wheel where the stem goes into the wheel is where the TPMS sensor is located. There is no way to remove the sensor other than by taking the tire bead off the wheel, or removing the tire completely. The second picture shows the wheel weights used to balance the tire and wheel. It has nothing to do with the TPMS sensor.
  14. WOW! Best of luck to you. Not an overnight project, is it!
  15. You (the tire shop) will remove the sensor from the wheel you are replacing and install that one in your new wheel. You will have a new valve stem and sensor rebuild kit then installed onto the OLD sensor they just put into the new wheel. No need to buy another sensor when you can reuse your old one. Some people sell their wheels and keep all four sensors to use in whatever replacement wheels they buy. Some people sell the old sensors with the wheels and then buy four NEW sensors. Your choice. I would install the old sensor, have the rebuild kit installed, and be done with it. You need to check with what ever tire shop is doing the wheel swap to make sure they understand what you want done so you don't end up paying for a new sensor when there is no need to.
  16. It does not come just from train rails as per the link at the end of this copy and paste sentence from that link. Now days the specs are mostly caused by the filings from snow plow blades in snow country and by brake filings etc on the roads. http://www.passatworld.com/forums/93-wax-wax-off/258340-what-rail-dust.html
  17. Rail dust! https://www.google.com/search?q=rail+dust&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=sb
  18. In order to remove a sensor from the wheel (the valve stem type, not the wheel band type) the valve should be rebuilt. There is an o-ring and other parts which need to be properly torqued. The kits can be found for under $2.00 per wheel and up. The sensor itself has a sealed battery which can not be replaced like some used to be able to in the past. The rebuild kit is a profit maker for many tire shops, as they charge up to $14.00 per wheel to rebuild them. Here is what the kits look like. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1504152,parttype,12037,a,www.google.com%2BSearch%2Bfor%2B2013%2BFORD%2BEDGE%2B3.7L%2BV6
  19. Most Ford wheels I've had have the FOMOCO logo and other informartion on the inside of the wheel. It might include the part number, the offset, the lug pattern, and sometimes even a date it was made. You will have to have the seller send you pictures of both sides of the wheel to see if it is a genuine Ford wheel. Any tire shop can change your wheel with no problem. You are in Canada, so you may not have the TPMS sensors. They are not yet required as far as I know in Canada. Check your owner's manual for information. If you can, link to the site which wheel you are looking at.
  20. Mine with the push start also gets a hard pedal when pushing it while starting if the car sits for several days. It immediately returns to normal upon starting, and doesn't do it again unless it sits for a few more days without starting. I figure it is just the air leaking out of the booster.
  21. OK, here are the specs for your 2011 Ford Edge. Grab a beverage and start reading! Lug pattern 5X114.3 mm (5X4.5 inches is the same pattern and will fit the lug spacing with no additional spacers, etc) Hub bore 63.4 mm (used on Ford Edge models 2011 to present) 2010 and older Edges use 70.5 mm and will only fit if hub centric rings can found. Offset I found ranges of 35 mm to 45 mm. My 2013 20 inch factory Edge and now the 20 inch Ford Flex wheels have an offset of 40 mm Some websites show the offset as being "H", but I would go by the actual numbers TPMS 2011 and up Edges use a TPMS sensor which is attached via the valve stem. 2010 and older Edges use a TPMS which is mounted to the inner wheel by use of a band which runs around the complete inner wheel. The frequency of the 2011 and newer Edges are different than the 2010 and older ones. You can not use the older TPMS with the 2011 Edges or newer. Diameter Edges use wheel sizes of 17 inch, 18 inch, 20 inch, and 22 inch factory installed. You can use just about any size as long as you use the factory size tires. The tire sizes allow any wheel size to be used without having speedometer false readings. Example The 245 X 60 X 18 tire gives almost exactly the same readings as the 245 X 50 X 20 tire. This is why you can change sizes Ford Wheels Ford Flex wheels fit the 2011 up Edges, some Explorer wheels fit, and I believe some Mustang and even Taurus wheels would work. Just have to verify the specs. I have 20 inch Ford Flex wheels on my 2013 Edge. Of course, there are many aftermarket wheels that would work, but many would need spacers or hub centric rings to fit properly.
  22. There's also the report about the AppLink finally coming as an upgrade, but only to certain year models, and only to NON MTF vehicles. There's a post about it on these forums somewhere. I know the Edge is one of the vehicles it will be available for.
  23. Welcome, Saddam! I know there are a few other owner's in the middle east region who participate on here. They both have tried to get the RDS to work on their radios, but no one has been able to help them. Maybe with you being a tech and in the general area, you may know if it is possible to do so? I never realized the salvage flood cars were being shipped over there, or anywhere for that matter. Glad you are able to get some of them running again and that you even own one of them.
  24. I have no idea why the quote for you doesn't work. I just click the "quote" button in the lower right of the post I want to quote, and it inserts it in a new reply box. Keep looking, maybe eventually you will find a good deal on a wheel up there. I have no idea what shipping, taxes, duties, etc would be if I were to pick up one of these wheels for you. If you want to check that out, I wouldn't mind doing it for you or anyone else. That's assuming the wheels here are still available at the time.
