I have liked the Edge ever since I saw my first one back in 2007. It was on a dealer's lot and was the Creme Brulee color. I have driven F150's for the last 20 years or so, but always thought the Edge would be a good replacement when I no longer wanted a truck. Last July I traded in my 2003 F150 (purchased new) for a 2013 Edge Limited. I got it with the 301A package, white platinum, trailer tow package, blind spot monitoring, and the 20" chrome clad wheels. I even purchased the Ford Premium Care Extended warranty thinking this would be something I would keep for a long time. I didn't like the chrome clad, so found a set of Flex 20" alloy wheels and put those on it and sold the chrome clad to someone who had two curb rash wheels and knew he would be doing it again! I really like the way it rides, (heck, I put 13000 miles on it over the last 12 months almost), handles, looks, and the MPG I am getting, but it just isn't a truck! My wife actually talked me into trading in the F150 because she was a little concerned about the 170000 miles and the age of the truck. I talked my self into thinking the Edge would be a good replacement and so I went for it. Funny, I have never done any towing, but always get the factory tow package when ever I can just for the upgraded cooling and other additional heavy duty components. I'll be looking around this week and getting some prices on the 2013 F150's and see what they offer for the Edge. The Edge is really a nice total package, but it just isn't what I want.

Is the sensor in step 1 the same sensor in step 2 that will not respond? If so, it may be the battery in the sensor itself. When I put used sensors I purchased on eBay into a different set of wheels that I put on my Edge I didn't have to do any relearn procedure. I drove about 10 miles on back roads with speeds under 40 and the light never went off. I then got on a freeway and drove 60mph and within 1 mile the light went off. Mine is a 2013 so should have the same sensors and module as your 2011. The sensors I installed had never been set for my vehicle until I drove with them installed. Have you tried driving a few miles at highway speed?

Page 341 of my 2013 US Edge says to use synthetic blend or full synthetic. For Canadian models it says Super Premium Motor Oil or synthetic motor oil. I have not been able to find if the Super Premium oil is a synthetic blend or not. Ford part number CXO-5W20-LFS12 (Canada). The oil change place may have been correct in saying it needed synthetic oil (if they didn't have the Super Premium) in stock. However, the price charged seems extremely excessive for just an oil and filter change using synthetic.

Sorry you learned the hard (and expensive) way. I saw the title and was hoping you were asking if the 2011 would fit the 2009. 2011 was the first year on the Edge that the smaller hub bore size was used. I have no idea why they did that. Hopefully you can find a machine shop to cut the wheels as that is the only way to get them to fit as far as I know.

Looking for (Qty. 2) Ford Edge 22" OEM wheels (no sensor needed)
ls973800 replied to Bigmarc's topic in Classifieds
Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. I was thinking they were also the chrome clad like the wheels on the Limited. I don't think I've actually seen a Sport model since I purchased my Limited about 10 months ago. -

My 2013 Limited does it also. -
Looking for (Qty. 2) Ford Edge 22" OEM wheels (no sensor needed)
ls973800 replied to Bigmarc's topic in Classifieds
So were the repaired wheels chrome plated or alloy? I don't think the chrome plating can be repaired, especially for only $125.00. Just curious if someone was actually able to repair the chrome plated ones. -
Why not just pick up a set of factory 18" wheels for the winter and save the good ones for summer? There are several posts in the classified with factory wheels, chrome plated or just the alloy finish. I even have a set of the 2012 18" SEL factory wheels for sale but don't have a current classified ad running here. See what other people have that might be closer to you, I'm in Dallas. The dealer may have pulled one over on you if they actually charged you to reset the vehicles computers to run a smaller wheel and tire size. The factory OEM size 18 and 20 inch wheels and tires provide an almost identical speedometer reading and don't require any computer resets. Perhaps the dealer charged to initialize the TPMS sensors, but several hundred dollars is really a rip off! You can swap the 18 and 20 inch wheels back and forth and don't need any resets done. Once the TPMS sensors have been programmed into your car, they can be removed and then put back on later with no additional service needing done, even if you swap them out into a different wheel! Remember, if you do get a set of factory wheels, they have to be from a 2011 or newer because of the smaller hub size. The 2010 and earlier will work but you would have to buy some hub centric rings to reduce the older bigger hub size down to your smaller size.

Preparing to Purchase 1st Edge (Used) - Seeking Advice
ls973800 replied to JeffRow's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
If you are buying used, are you looking for FWD or AWD? I know many of the earlier Edge's with AWD had a problem with a leaking seal on the PTO (or PTU depending on how you want to call it ) unit. I don't know what years the problem was common to. What price range are you looking to stay in? -
OK, I've got the new website DriveBright saved to my toolbar favorites. Just have to wait until Monday now to see what will be offered on the site. Best of luck, Dan.

Steering wheel issue
ls973800 replied to Tom Champagne's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I thought the leather covering was just that, leather. It may be, but I am sure it is dyed to match whatever interior color is chosen for the car. Anything which is dyed is prone to be affected by chemicals or cleaners. Did the all purpose cleaner you used (Meguiar"s) have any warnings on the label about testing in a hidden area? -
There are numerous posts on this forum about HID's and what bulbs, temp range, etc to use. Try doing a search and you'll find the other posts. Heck, there's even a separate topic listed on the home page for glass, lenses, LIGHTS, etc. Lots of posts there about the HID upgrades.

I got the Edge up on my ramps in the garage and everything looks OK underneath. No broken bolts, springs, shocks, etc. No dings or dents anywhere either so no evidence of anything having hit anywhere. Nothing leaking from the fuel tank, lines, etc. I'll just forget about it since everything looks normal and it drives and handles the same as before the noise. Thanks
-
I'll get the car jacked up tomorrow and take a good look underneath it. I have never heard a loud bang like this without actually seeing where something hit, or feeling something if I ran over it. I had worked in heavy industrial construction for over 40 years, and it sure sounded like the noise a large bolt makes when it snaps or breaks. If I don't see anything underneath, I will just let it go as one of those things. Thanks everyone.

More like a boulder from the sound it made!

Here's the other post which also concerned a 2011 and if it had nav or not. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/10942-missing-nav-sd-card-in-pre-owned-2011-edge-limited/?hl=%2Bwindow+%2Bsticker+%2Bnav&do=findComment&comment=82841

I guess. I'll just stick with what the computer shows for MPG since that has been in my happy zone. :hyper:

I found TSB 10-17-4 which has been superseded by 10-21-2. Does not conform to my problem, and I found nothing else for the transmission or gear range selector or sensor which would include the noise. Thanks anyhow. TSB 10-21-2 6F50/6F55 TRANSMISSION - SLIP/NEUTRAL OUT, 5TH GEAR START FROM STOP, ELECTRONIC PRNDL ERROR, BACKUP CAMERA IN D - BUILT 3/13/2009-6/30/2010 Publication Date: October 18, 2010 FORD: 2009-2011 Taurus, Edge, Flex LINCOLN: 2009-2011 MKS, MKT, MKX This article supersedes TSB 10-17-4 to update the vehicle model years and the production build date

Thanks, I'll see what I can find on the net. This noise was definitely from the right side of the car and towards the back.

This afternoon while driving on a freeway doing about 65 I heard a very loud BANG from the right side of the Edge, near the rear door or quarter panel area. My wife was dozing in the passenger seat and it was loud enough to wake her up. I thought something had hit the body, but there were no cars on that side of me at the time. I thought maybe I had run over something, but didn't see anything in the rear view mirror, and didn't feel anything through the tires. I stopped several minutes later to check the body and was expecting to find a big dent or something because of the noise this made. I could not find anything! No dents, no scratches, no dings, nothing! I checked the wheel wells and saw no damage, and checked the wheels and saw nothing. All glass is good and the BAMR is still intact. Tomorrow I am going to pull the wheels on the right side and check the suspension for anything broken. Springs, struts, sway bars, etc. Since nothing is damaged on the body, I can only think maybe some type of metal part snapped? Anyone ever had something like this happen? 2013 Edge Limited, 12000 miles, 20" wheels and tires.

So I filled up for the first time since I reported the huge difference between the amount of fuel I refilled with and the MPG computer reading versus my hand calculation as I posted in the original post above. I filled up at a different station, and was only able to get about .3 gallons more into the tank than what the computer said I actually used. My MPG figures were also within .2 MPG of each other. Either the last station I filled up at had an out of spec pump, or there was some type of glitch with my last readings. Much happier to see that I actually did achieve almost 24MPG this last fill up.

I can't believe Ford saying 1 quart every 1000 miles is within acceptable specifications. I can believe a dealer telling you that, but would ask for some type of documentation with Ford letterhead saying so. For what it is worth, GM is having some oil consumption problems with some of their 2010-2011 2.4 engines in the Equinox and Terrain. They have issued a document saying 1 quart in every 2000 miles would be acceptable.

So was the window sticker which says you have Navigation the factory sticker, or one of those the dealership makes up to put on used cars? If factory, and if the VIN is listed the same as what your VIN is, you do have nav. If it's something the dealer put on a homemade window sticker, I would ask for several hundred dollars of credit for services or accessories! There was a similar questions several months ago about a window sticker saying he had nav but he didn't think he actually had it. Was that you or did this happen to someone else also?

2011 Edge: Teapot Whistle when Applying Brakes
ls973800 replied to PrinzII's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
All works fine if I only use them for a quick full stop, but if I have to ride the brake, or hold it, it seems to slowly sink and require a lot of pressure to fully stop. I would consider ANY abnormal brake response to be dangerous or potentially dangerous. I would not continue driving it until I had it checked out to see what the problem is. There are symptoms of something being wrong. Who's to say the next time you apply the brakes they don't work at all? Get it checked out now! -
