extended warranty need help!

Recommended Posts

I Drive a lot of miles and will be using the edge for work. Driving 50,000 miles per year the dealership offered me an extended warranty to 125,000 mile bumper to bumper for 2700 dollars not negotiable. I think they way over priced it because I am a young woman seeking a pretty nice 2011 limited edge. Needless to say i did not buy the vehicle yet and am a little ticked. Is this too much? I was told by a friend that they paid 1300 for the Ford backed extended warranty on a brand new 2012 limited. What did you pay? Thanks for the help.

Go to www.fordprotect.ford.com and you can get a price on a Ford Warranty from Ford or google extended warranties and you will find a number of dealers that sell Ford Extended warranties at a discount. I bought a Ford Premium Care 100,000 mile, 8 year, $100 deductible for $1495 from Anderson & Koch Ford in North Branch, MN. 800-758-3679 Jeremy Klund, Business Manager.

Before doing this I checked it out with a friend who used to own a ford dealership but is still heavily involved in the auto industry. He said that Ford pays these dealers significant incentives to sell extended warranties.

FWIW, on the F-150 forum, https://www.f150forum.com/

with over 230,000 members, the consensus is that Flood Ford and Ziegler Ford are the absolute cheapest for Ford ESP warranties.

I bought 2 from Ziegler.

Shop around on-line.

Ummmmmmm, yes and no. I got a quote from three online dealers, took them to my local dealer and they matched the lowest. And then sweetened the deal by going to $0 deductible if I take the car to them for service ($100 at other deakers).

Interesting, but a couple of quick questions.

Did the on-line dealers include Flood Ford and Ziegler Ford?

You were fortunate in finding a reasonable dealer, remember, in Post 1 the OP was quoted $2700, NON-NEGOTIABLE.

What does taking the vehicle to the dealer for service consist of? Does that prevent you from doing any of your own service forever? Does that mean you can't change your own engine air filter, or cabin air filter?

Just curious. :)

I honestly dont remember who the three Ford dealers were, I Googled and these three had forms you fill out online.

As far as "non-negotiatable", that's his starting position. Take him three quotes (or just one) showing a lower bid. He'll reopen the bidding. He knows he will have to match or lose the sale.

Doesn't matter who you buy from, any Ford dealer can sell the Ford extended warranty at any price he wants and all Ford dealers will honor it.

As to what's covered, my MKX had 115,000 on it when I bought this warranty (my 2nd extended warranty) and this one just coveres the powertrain (engine, transmission, ptu, axles, a few other things like road service, etc. I can do any service I choose, but like any warranty, they will not cover any screwups I make.

I usually take it to the dealer, but change my own filters, etc. I mainly bought this warranty to cover the PTU (they changed it on the last extended warranty), and the water pump. Big stuff.

I researched Ford extended warranty's in Jan. 2017 after my purchase of a 2016 Edge Sport in Dec. 2016. Anderson Koch Ford was the best price at the time. I did not purchase the Edge there. I understand online extended warranty pricing can change between Ford dealers at any time.

Here are my notes from my purchase. Please note, I drive low miles annually so take this into account in the pricing. I also added the extra cost light/bulb package for all inside and outside lights for an additional $60. The LED lighting, especially on the rear hatch can be expense to replace as Ford does not replace individual LED lights but replaces the entire LED assembly.

MY NOTES

01-15-17 2016 Edge Ext. Warranty. 8 yrs 60k miles ESP PremiumCARE Plan. $1,110 + $60 - interior/exterior lights = $1,170 . Anderson & Koch Ford. 5577 St. Croix Trial North Branch, MN. 651-674-4465 - 800-758-3673 http://andersonandkoch-ford-warranty.com/Jeremy Klund. Jeremy was very easy to work with I would recommend him. Jeremy stated they sell extended warranty's in volume at a low markup which is how they can offer lower prices.

Anderson & Koch
Po Box 158
North Branch, MN 55056

I called Ford (see below to obtain a quote) and was quoted $2,400 for the same coverage. I also called a Ford Fleet Manager friend of mine to solicit a quote and shared the Anderson Koch price and he said "buy it", so I did.

Ford Extended Service Plan HQ - P.O. Box 6045 Dearborn, MI 48121 - 800-521-4144.

ALSO: My niece purchased a 2017 Explorer Sport and she also purchased extended warranty from Anderson Koch for close to half of what her dealer quoted.

ALSO - I facilitated a 2018 Honda Accord purchase for my good friend and neighbor and she not only got a good purchase price, but also an online extended warranty from a Honda dealer in the Eastern U.S. for slightly half of the local dealer price. Ford is not the only only one to sell at lower online prices.

If you live in Florida, extended warranties are considered insurance and are subject to many restrictions including that the price is the same for all customers (generally MSRP) and is not negotiable. Also sellers must be licensed in Florida which mostly prevents buying an extended warranty online or from out of state.

Has anyone had warranty work done covered under the "Anderson Koch Ford" warranty after their original Ford warranty ran out, and did it cover as expected?

Is it the same warranty if purchased thru the actual Ford Extended Warranty site?

I deleted what I originally wrote, the warranty does indeed look like it's just another Ford dealer selling on line. (I now believe I was wrong, should have read the site closer).

What's curious is the cut off for this dealer is the avaliablity the 2012 model year or later, and for vehicles with less than 55k miles (I have a 09 mkx and over 100k miles and just bought the 3 year, powertrain warranty late last year).

I'll leave the rest of the post as it's still pertant.

If a fake. Not the Ford ESP.

Call for the price, but be sitting down when you do. May cost as must as $4,000 - $5,000 total depending on what you pick. Complete ripoff.

The site for Anderson Koch Ford says it's an ESP warranty from Ford on their quote?

Both myself (2016 Edge Sport) and my niece (2017 Explorer Sport) bought ESP warranty's from Anderson & Koch. The contract stipulates ESP PremiumCare.

I also confirmed the ESP coverage with my local Ford dealer service advisor.

Mine: Purchased on 01-15-17 2016 Edge Ext. Warr. 8 yrs 60k miles (don't drive many miles) ESP PremiumCARE Plan. $1,110 + $60 for interior/exterior lights coverage = $1,170

I went to my dealer here in SC (Fort Mill Ford, SC) yesterday to find out what they would charge for the Ford ESP PremiumCARE for 6 years 75k miles extended warranty. They came back with a price of around $2200. I showed them the $1310 price on-line that Anderson & Koch wanted. The person went away and then came back and said that they would match the $1310 price. So I purchased it there.

This irritates me to no end. Why would you give them your money after they just tried to overcharge you so much? If they’re willing to sell it for $1310 after you showed them the price from the other guys they should have been willing to sell it for that before.

Basically, they’re saying ok you caught us, here’s the real price. I understand it was easier to just let them include it with the truck and financing but I hate companies that do business like that. I could see if it was a couple hundred difference but not $900.

I don't like it but by getting it there I know that I walked out with the paper work and didn't have to wonder if the Anderson & Koch would send it.

When you go to buy your vehicle do you not buy it if the dealer says he will reduce the price of a say $40k vehicle by $6k? It's the same thing with almost anything you buy, you have to talk the seller down in price even though you know they should just give you their best price.

I worked my way through high school and college at small privately owned furniture stores. We offered much lower prices competing against the large chain stores. Some people would get our best price the go back and get the chain store to match it. I don’t think that’s fair at all. It allows the other stores to rip off the people who don’t cross shop and only provide discounts when they get caught.

Because of that I don’t normally shop that way. I ask each vendor to give me their best price and I pick one. I reward the one with the lowest or best pricing. If you don’t buy from the ones with the lowest price they’ll go out of business and you’re stuck with the highest price vendors. I do make exceptions but generally I won’t support a vendor who overcharges like that. Even if it’s a little extra work on my part.

Akirby I believe you should not be a "Moderator" since you seem to be provoking a word fight with me. Enigma-2 on post #9 said the same thing about getting a dealer to reduce their price by showing them another's price and you said nothing. A moderator should make sure that people don't post obscene or none related posts on these sites. They should also help people when they can. They should not be jumping on people because of the moderator's own personal opinions.

I stated that I didn't like it either but that I got the warranty paper work right there and didn't have to worry whether Anderson & Koch would send it to me. since you told me your story which shouldn't be brought up on this site I'll tell part of mine. I look up a lot of things on the internet for pricing but if possible go to the actual stores to purchase them. I like to actually see and touch the items I want to buy. I also believe that it helps keep people employed at the stores.

None of your ranting and opinions belongs in this forum especially since you are listed as a moderator, this post of mine should not be here either since it doesn't really help anyone out with their warranty questions. My original post just pointed out that I got a matching price at my dealer and if other people were hesitant to order on-line that it might work for them to get a better price at their dealer.

Sorry... you're wrong. Being a moderator (I am a moderator on a couple of other forums) doesn't mean you can't express an opinion. Moderators are people who are active in the community and agree to take on the added responsibility of monitoring the forums (for free). Besides, nothing he said was a dig at you, just comments on how he treats similar situations. Your are free to do the same thing or do your own thing. Perhaps starting with getting a thicker skin.

I applaud akirby for the even handed way he has handled the situations that have needed it and he is a knowledgeable member of this community. We don't always agree but that's part of the purpose of a forum. If everyone agreed on everything it would get awfully boring in here.
