I thought all IA equipped vehicles came with the keypad?
-
Is it possible you accidentally hit the keypad 7/8 and 9/0 buttons at the same time? That would do it although that seems unlikely. As long as you have the keypad code (you can set your own code so it's easier to remember) you'll never be locked out. That's one of the best vehicle features ever invented and I don't know why other mfrs haven't copied it. Nissan tried once but that's the only one I remember.

Do you have the keyless start or a regular key? Do you have the keypad on the door? If so you should memorize the code or set a new one so you can open the door in case it happens again. The only way to lock an IA fob in the the vehicle is with the keypad or another fob.

They need to determine if the PCM is calling for full or partial voltage. There should be a clear troubleshooting procedure in the shop manual.
-
You would think. If the PCM and battery and alternator are all good then that pretty much makes it a wiring problem I think.

Shift to Park Warning when it's in Park
akirby replied to AmyLovesHerEdge's topic in All Wheel Drive (AWD)
Is your husband handy? I think it's a relatively easy DIY replacement. The powertrain warranty is very specific in what it does and does not cover - don't just go by what the dealer says. Look it up to be sure. It's available online at ford.com. -
Yep that was it.

Do the 2011s have the variable output alternator controlled by the PCM? If so maybe that's the problem.

A long time Ford transmission engineer told me if the filter needs cleaning/changing it's time for a new transmission. He recommends changing every 30K although I think that's overkill and would probably do it around 60K. The dealer uses a machine that simply takes the old fluid from the cooler line going to the transmission and swaps in new fluid using the return line. This changes 95% of the old fluid without any chemicals or high pressure so it shouldn't hurt an older transmission.

If we had a dollar for every time a bad battery tested good - we'd have a lot of dollars. Look at it this way - even if it's not the problem you have a fresh battery for the next 3-4 years and you can eliminate it as a cause.
-
Change the battery?

Oops - yeah but 380 lb/ft!!

MKX has the 3.7L regular engine (larger version of the Edge 3.5L) and a 2.7LEB with 350+ hp. It's a great engine - far more power than the Edge 2.0LEB but worse fuel economy. It does have sync 3.
-
Oh there is a consistent posture from Ford - that the fluid doesn't need to be changed. It's a bad posture but it is consistent.
-
The sensor in the shifter that detects when the shifter is in the park position gets flaky, the PCM doesn't think the car is in park so it stays alive and drains the battery over time.
-
Have you considered looking at a MKX? Ours was a FWD Reserve fairly loaded - price after rebates was $48K. It's even quieter than the Edge (active noise cancellation) and has a better stereo options and more comfy seats (even without the 22-way adjustables). That includes the 360 degree camera which is great and sync connect for remote start, vehicle finder, etc.

No recall as far as I know, so the standard warranty coverage would apply. If it's not under warranty I think it's around $175 for the part and 10 minutes to install it.

If you're really looking at it from a cost savings perspective you have to look at it over a long time and several vehicles. You can have one or two vehicles where you make out like a bandit - just like you can have one or two trips to vegas where you win big. But if you play the game long enough the house always wins. If you can afford to self-insure (that's all an extended warranty is - an insurance policy) you'll almost always win in the long run. If you can't afford a big repair then an ESP make sense - just factor it into the car financing so you're only paying a few bucks a month.

Tow package and hitch on 2015 Edge

And the factory hitch doesn't interfere with it (I assume - my aftermarket hitch doesn't on the mkx). -

If you have a Titanium you already have the foot activated liftgate. -
What made you choose your Edge?
akirby replied to Edgy Girl's topic in Competing Crossovers & Vehicles
I was beginning to wonder if we were the only ones who hated the Escape seats. Especially the passenger side which was still manual on the 2014 Ti. It literally felt like you were sitting on a 2 inch thick phone book. That was the first and only time I've bought a vehicle and had trouble with the seats. Now we won't buy anything without an extended test drive with both of us sitting in both seats. The MKX seats are fantastic although I could use another inch of width and depth. The Edge seats we test drove were also good but not as comfy as the MKX. -
I was too lazy to find the other thread. Thanks Hermans!

Nothing official out yet for the 2017 Edge, but we know that Ford is deleting Too Good to be Blue and adding Blue Jeans for all 2017 models.
