  1. I think you're missing the point. That particular problem could occur at any time on any vehicle at any plant. And it probably does - the only difference is they usually find it before it leaves the plant. The only time you hear about it is when they have to recall already sold vehicles or issue a stop sale order.
  2. He is right, to a point at least. What happened in the plant is proprietary and not something that any mfr is going to share publicly. And if it didn't affect your vehicle then why do you need to know other than simple curiosity? Maybe he could have worded it more nicely but I certainly wouldn't hold that against Ford especially if it came from someone at an auto show.
  3. By the same token if you can afford a $42K vehicle and a $2K warranty then you can afford to pay for even a large repair. Look - if you want one buy it, just understand how the game works.
  4. If every ESP paid out more than it cost then they wouldn't be selling them. It is nothing more than an insurance policy and yes it is most certainly a gamble. Why do I have car insurance or home insurance? Because I can't afford to pay cash to replace a home or car. Large companies don't buy insurance policies like that - they self-insure because it's cheaper and they can afford it. Most people can afford to pay for a repair. If you can't afford to pay for a large repair then get one and finance it with the vehicle so you only pay a few dollars per month. If you want to gamble that you'll beat the house odds go ahead. You might win. Just understand it's a gamble and the odds are not in your favor.
  5. Only option is to ask the dealer for assistance. The dealer can advocate with Ford to cover at least part of the cost. Depends mostly on your dealer and whether they're willing to help out.
  6. Pull the sync fuse or disconnect the battery in the car or try a master reset.
  7. But there are many other examples that are just the opposite. I've had 5 vehicles that were kept 5-7 years each. Outside the factory warranty I had a broken door handle on one, cooling fans on another and a handfull of small repairs on a third. Most I fixed myself but even at the dealer my total out of pocket for all 5 vehicles would have been less than $1000. Because I did not buy an extended warranty I saved over $7500. I am now $6500 ahead and even if I had to pay $3K tomorrow I'd still be ahead $3500. Unless you're just incredibly unlucky or you abuse your vehicles, over the long run (multiple vehicles over a decade or two) the odds are always in your favor to come out ahead. If you like to pay a one time up front fee or finance it with the vehicle to avoid a single large repair bill that's fine. But you can't say it's a good idea all the time for everyone just because it worked out in one case or for one individual. Many people win big in Vegas but that doesn't mean you'll do the same - it's still a gamble and the odds are stacked in the house's favor. If it wasn't they wouldn't be selling them.
  8. It could have wrapped. 5 digits is only 100K vehicles and Ford builds more than 100K Edges per year, so there are other significant leading digits in play including the engine code. The sequence number isn't really guaranteed to be sequential.
  9. It's probably your phone. Try powering it off and back on.

  11. Yes it's obviously a problem with the part but there really isn't an option other than to replace it. It is possible to get Ford to cover some or all of the cost but only if your dealer advocates for it with Ford. I think it's a fairly easy DIY replacement if you end up having to pay for all of it.
  12. If it's the shifter you should see a "shift to park" message sometimes requiring you to jiggle (technical term) the shifter. If you're not seeing that it's probably not the shifter. I don't think there are any noticeable symptoms of the BCM issue. I would just monitor it and if you're driving only a few minutes let it idle for a few minutes at home before shutting it off and see if that helps.
  13. So just hit the button and turn it off before you get out and hit the button to turn it back on when you get back. It's not that difficult or cumbersome. I understand it's annoying but the solutions are pretty easy. It would be nice to be able to disable it - until that one day when you have the key in your pocket, the wife drops you off somewhere and she gets stranded without a key.
  14. The site owner is eliminating the 2015 and 2016 specific forums and is moving the posts to the appropriate forum. It may take a few days to get everything into the final spaces so please be patient. These forums were becoming catch-alls for all problems instead of using the correct technical forum and it makes it harder to find issues that might be common to all years.
  15. Maybe the alternator is flaky and works sometimes but not all the time. Do you drive a lot of short trips? That can do it if the battery doesn't have time to recharge after starting the vehicle. I suggest getting a good tester (SOLAR is the one a few of us have) and keeping track of both the voltage and cranking amps over time. I also got a C-Tek charger/reconditioner. Worst case you might need to use that once every 2-4 weeks. Maybe the drain doesn't always show up. Body Control Module and the Shifter Park detect mechanism are common causes.
  16. Correct. I should have said don't close it all the way.
  17. It's also to prevent you from dropping someone off who has the only key in their pocket and driving off without a key. The car will keep running but if you turn it off for more than 20 seconds without the key you're stranded. Another option is to shut it off, then use remote start to keep it running while you're in the store.
  18. Yes but the likelihood of actually needing to replace an engine or transmission is very low, so it's a gamble. And the odds are in Ford's favor. If you really want an extended warranty I'm sure there are plenty of non-Ford options available. Banks and insurance companies often have them.
  19. Is it the lower housing or the upper cover? The cover is sold separately for less than $75 but I don't see a separate housing by itself on fordparts.com. You can always get a used one and just swap out the housing.
  20. 3 options..... Leave the door open Leave the key in the vehicle Turn off the engine
  21. No - should be available later in the year and in the 2017 model.
  22. Not yet. Should be available later in the year.
  23. Does it stay in surround mode after you shut off the vehicle? Previous versions did not.
