  1. I don't understand - if they're building them at the factory then you should be able to buy the parts.
  2. Probably better. Grease is usually heavier and lasts longer than silicone.
  3. Did we already have this conversation?
  4. That is true - without a butt pressing the seat cushion into the element they're not going to transfer as much heat.
  5. Obviously Ford is investing heavily in new Ecoboost engines, but I don't think the 3.5 or 3.7 NA engines are lacking such that they need any major improvements. Outside of DI I'm not sure what you could really upgrade.
  6. It really comes down to whether it's easier to use the same code with or without hardware. Sometimes it may cause problems leaving it in or leaving it activated so they turn it off or leave out the code altogether. It's going to be a case by case thing.
  7. Are you sure the vehicle is shutting off power? Maybe the detector shuts itself off.
  8. If you're sure the lights are turned off then they probably are related to the ignition cylinder.
  9. I used to be a subscriber. It would be hypocritical of us to lambaste CR for bad Ford reviews (when we felt it wasn't warranted) but celebrate CR when a good Ford review comes out.
  10. I can't find it because of all the ecoboost articles, but I thought they tweaked it more when they dropped it into the 2015 F150. How does the tranny limit the NA 3.5?
  11. Did Ford ever indicate that Travelink was included for Canadians?
  12. I beg to differ. The 3.5L (and I assume the 3.7L) was just revamped a couple of years ago. The 5.0 Coyote is only 5 years old and the flat plane crank voodoo 5.2L variant is only a year old. The 2.5L is pretty much unchanged. Obviously Ford is putting more investment in EB engines for CAFE reasons but they also allow a wider range of performance and tuning. Where does the 3.5L, 3.7L, 5.0 and 5.2 engines come up short against the competition?
  13. Their point had nothing to do with how well it worked - it was just that you had to take your eyes off the road to make a selection. Which is even worse in the Tesla. I don't personally have a problem with either one but I expect a professional publication to be a bit more consistent.
  14. The reliability data comes from CR subscribers only, which makes me question some of the data. E.g. if you're a Honda owner and you bought your Honda because CR rated it tops - you might be reluctant to report a problem. Or vice versa. To me random samples like JD Power are better.
  15. Reformat the usb drive, redownload the update and try it again. If that doesn't work you'll have to take it to the dealer.
  16. CR is just as biased as everyone else. They dinged Ford vehicles for MFT because you had to use the touch screen to do too many functions. Then they give the Tesla Model S a better than perfect score (103) when all it has for controls is a touch screen. A bit hypocritical don't you think?
  17. No you didn't that's why I didn't jump in. Macbwt was just stirring the pot based on past similar discussions. Cut that out!
  18. Ok - let's get the mpg thing out of the way since that's the biggest source of debate around here. You are correct that the air filter doesn't affect fuel economy one way or the other - less restrictive or more restrictive - on a modern fuel injected closed loop engine. The engine controls monitor and adjust the fuel to match the airflow and maintain the proper A/F ratio. More air - more fuel. Less air - less fuel. Actually I should say oxygen, not air. Denser/colder air adds more oxygen and requires more fuel. A higher flowing filter will absolutely add more power - but usually only a few hp (maybe 10-15 under ideal conditions) and then it's only at WOT. You'll get the same power below WOT with a paper filter just by opening the throttle a bit more. That's the science.
  19. I'm not going to stir that hornet's nest. If you're happy with it then enjoy it.
  20. Nothing to criticize. You said it makes no difference in performance or mpg.
  21. It's on the inside back wall of the center console. Did you see the picture in the OM?
