This update puts the temp back on the large MFT screen.

How did they end up being 1" apart? Were 2 of the tires replaced? Who replaced them?
-
If you don't go through the normal syncmyride.com interface how do you know for sure this version is compatible with your Edge? I'd be very careful here.

looking at purchasing a 2013 SEL
akirby replied to silentjay1980's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
I can't find one exactly like that one but X plan price should be around $32K based on similar models I'm looking at in dealer inventory. That includes $1500 in incentives - yours may vary. The dealer can only charge a $100 doc fee and other legal fees and taxes (tag, title, etc.) on X plan. Period. They can't add any additional equipment or services unless you ask for them. No other fees whatsoever. There is a chance you could negotiate a few hundred less than X plan but then you open yourself up to add-ons, higher doc fees and other hidden stuff that is prohibited with X plan. Plus you can buy from whichever dealer you want since the price will be identical. -
Of course it can be fixed. The question is how much it will cost.

Once or twice every year??? Wow. With today's cars you're just as likely to have a problem on day one as the last day of the 3/36 warranty.

It's worth a shot. That was probably the governor's office of consumer affairs or something like that. Better Business Bureau can also help sometimes. But not always.

I just want to be sure you understand that Ford has no actual control over their dealers - they are independent businesses protected by 50 yr old state franchise laws. It's like complaining to Sony about the service at Best Buy. It won't hurt but it's not like Ford can shut down the dealer or otherwise punish the dealer for bad service. It's unfortunate but that's the way it works.

My 06 Fusion 3.0L gets 15-17 in my 11 mile daily commute when there is a lot of traffic and I'm doing lunch runs every day. When there is no traffic the same route gets me 21-24 mpg.

City stop and go driving is the worst for fuel economy.

navigation compatibility
akirby replied to 2k3gixxer1000's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
If you have THX then you need a THX nav unit. -
He has a 2010 - not MFT. There is more to it than just putting in a new head unit. I think it has to be programmed also. Do a search.

Good points. I assumed it was only for looks. You definitely won't get any street benefit from slotted rotors.
-
Go for it. Just make sure they're good quality parts and not cheap ebay imports. And I would suggest going slotted only - cross drilled rotors can crack.

Where to put in SD-card in 2008 Edge?
akirby replied to nasidaq's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Correct. You don't have MyFordTouch and you don't have a SD card slot. -
Ask A Professional Detailer?
akirby replied to CanuckG35's topic in Appearance - Detailing, Wash & Wax
I use a Mr. Clean car wash kit that includes a water filter. Give the vehicle a final rinse with filtered water and it won't leave spots. The other option is to put a filter on the water supply going to the hose bib. Or use a blower and/or a drying cloth so the water doesn't dry in spots. -
The only way to make a tire last 90K miles is to make it harder or double the amount of tread. There is no magic that I'm aware of that would allow a tire to last that long without some type of compromise on ride quality, noise and/or handling. And I love Michelin tires - I rarely buy anything else. You have to be careful with tirerack user surveys because the same mfr/model tire can have multiple versions. E.g. my 06 Fusion came with Michelin Pilot HX MXM4s. So did the Honda Accord. But the specs on the Honda version are different from the Fusion version and the performance and ride quality are also very different. I also think there are at least 2 other versions of that tire built to difference specs for different vehicles or for regular retail. You really need to get feedback from owners who have that specific tire on your vehicle and make sure you get the same version. There are too many differences to get an accurate rating otherwise. If Michelin does not offer a tire for a specific vehicle or type of vehicle and/or size then there is usually a good reason for it. E.g. having tires that are too sticky on a vehicle with a high center of gravity is not good as it can induce a rollover if the vehicle gets sideways as opposed to another tire that slides more easily. They also have to take into account how many people would be likely to buy a specific tire in a specific size - maybe it's just not a good investment for them at this time. You can make small changes as long as you keep the overall diameter close to the same. e.g. going from 225/50/17 to 235/45/17.

Ford works directly with manufacturers to develop tires for specific vehicles. When the Lincoln LS debuted in 1999 I think they went through about 20 different tire versions before it was done. If you check tirerack.com you'll find multiple versions of the same tire with different characteristics because there are different versions for different mfrs and vehicles. And they can be drastically different. Besides - Ford doesn't control aftermarket tires, nor should they.
-
Who wants a 60K, 80K or 90K mile tire? The compromises in noise and comfort are not worth it to me. I'd rather have a great tire for 25k or 30k than a mediocre tire for 50K or 80K.

You beat me to it. But hey, if it makes him feel better....

c_bova is correct. It's Low. It provides higher RPM and more engine braking.
-
There is no reason the dealer should not have simply replaced the throttle body which most likely would have solved the problem. Unfortunately there are bad dealers out there who either don't do the right thing or don't care and that ends up reflecting bad on Ford when they really have no control over it. I don't agree that it's a NHTSA issue but I'm glad you have a new car and don't have to worry. However, don't think that another vehicle from another mfr can't have a similar problem.

I've seen them do this and still test ok. Change the battery anyway.

Only turn it off if you're towing a heavy load and it's constantly downshifting to maintain speed or you're descending a long hill or mountain and want to use engine braking to save the friction brakes from heating up. The last time I turned it off was in the mountains spring of last year.
