  1. There is no Ford-GM transmission plant. They only cooperated on the initial design - each company manufactures their own version of each. In fact Ford decided to go with a 8 speed FWD tranny while GM stayed with the 9 speed. Same for the older 6F trannies and the new 10 speed RWD tranny. There are a lot of differences and they are manufactured separately. Ford used Aisins in some of the Fusion and Five Hundred and associated Lincoln/Mercury models but they also used Mazdas and the jointly developed 6F. GM has supplied transmissions to BMW in the past - for the old 7 series I believe. Their version of the 6F had similar issues as Ford's version and I think their 9 speed FWD has also had some early issues. I think the 10 speed has been good for both mfrs.
  2. Maybe instead of changing fluid he just changes transmissions every 100K miles. It is a Chevy after all..... (Im joking here. GM actually makes some of the better transmissions)
  3. You should have read the codes while the CEL was on. Could be anything. My guess would be a weak battery but that’s just a wild guess
  4. Last I heard fluid swaps were around $180.
  5. Try this. Filter on 20" and grey. https://www.tirerack.com/wheels/results.jsp?&autoMake=Ford&autoModel=Edge+AWD&autoYear=2013&autoModClar=Sport
  6. It depends totally on the tires and the road surface. If they cut drainage grooves in the road it will be worse. Our MKX with the 21” Pirelli Scorpion Verdes does it but only on certain stretches of specific roads.
  7. I have peanut butter in my fridge and I do not have elephants in my fridge, therefore peanut butter prevents elephants.
  8. That was a minor contributor. The bigger issue is that he gambled on a recession and cut product development and started hoarding cash and that never happened. So Ford got caught out with old or missing products. Also some PR and partnership blunders. The stock price drop was really a symptom of the other problems he had.
  9. See how stupid the stock market is? Everybody says Ford is behind and needs to invest in future technology. They do just that and the stock goes down.
  10. My tranny engineer buddy considered almost all driving to be “severe duty” from the transmission’s point of view. I’m sure he was being overcautious but I figure he knows a lot more about it than most people.
  11. Don’t forget you get a 4 yr 50K mile bumper to bumper warranty with the MKX.
  12. I don’t care much about the washing part but damn that is one awesome car. Would be better in Guard’s Red but that grey is the second best color. And the sound of that engine is magical. I had a chance to drive a GT3 on a racetrack twice (3 laps each) and the handling is unbelievable. And the sound of that engine at full throttle winding up to 9000 RPM is amazing. Unfortunately I’ll probably settle for a Boxster S in a few years.
  13. I installed the hidden hitch on my 2016 MKX which I believe is the same as the Drawtite and there are no problems with the kick to open sensor. Works great.
  14. So you know more about transmissions than an actual transmission engineer? Normally I side with the mfr on maintenance intervals but they also said the PTU fluid doesn’t need to be changed either.
  15. 60K is about the maximum that most folks recommend. Some (including a former Ford tranny engineer) say 30k. I’d just let the dealer do a fluid replacement. Gets over 95% using the cooler lines.
  16. That’s only true on the titanium. On the SEL Navigation is a stand alone option.
  17. Probably a victim of mark Fields rampant cost cutting.
