  1. Ford has done too much just trying to prove its worthy of the ST badge.. The head to head with the Focus and fiesta was interesting but appeals to a VERY limited crowd. They should show it owning some competing cars and even put it against some similar priced sports cars. Even motortrend's lousy review with the worst tested 0-60 and 1/4 times of all review sites gave it .88g skid pad.. thats .01g less than a 370z. I can see a commercial with "real people" put into several sports cars and tasked to catch an Edge ST on a road course.
  2. We are both making alot of assumptions based on our personal bias. You are assuming SUVs/CUVs are not favored over small cars and I am assuming people will chose Ford over the competition. The ST has only been on dealer lots for a few months now and from my personal experience it has attracted more interest than the sport. Many aftermarket parts sites don't even list 2019 models at all yet. I say give it at least a year on the market to formulate a conclusion to if it will succeed.
  3. But now with the focus gone and the edge marketed as the new ford performance standard, it is Fords hope to get that sort of support. Also BTW I have never seen a focus with aftermarket wheels. I have only even seen 3 focus STs and all were visually stock. Its just not a popular tuner car around here. Edge's though I see aesthetic mods about 20% of the time. SUVs/CUVs are by far more popular in CT than cars.
  4. That’s a pretty obvious statement. Also 90% of focuses if not more are not modded.
  5. It was still just a sport.. You had all the fiesta and focus enthusiasts enjoying complete exclusivity of the aftermarket as the edge was not handled as a ford performance vehicle. It was literally just a trim package. Now if you agree or not the edge ST is officially a Ford Racing vehicle with no future US small car models in the foreseeable future. The aftermarket and enthusiast crowd doesn't have to adopt it but it has a higher likelihood now that its marketed as so.
  6. Well hopefully now being the primary option for ST performance going forward it will get more attention/interest and aftermarket will follow.
  7. Sure its not just steam? Get a quick smell of the cloud it emits.. it should smell a little like stale chemicals but not burn the eyes or smell like gasoline. I have noticed that these engines have an aggressive warm up cycle and will hold idle pretty high to reach engine operating temp. When i remote start mine on a sub 10 degree day it fogs my yard so bad i sometimes cant see the car from the house. I'm guessing the turbo holds heat fairly well and at last shutdown on a cold day may condense alot of water in the upper exhaust system. It woudl get hot there fast and get converted back to steam during warm up.
  8. I don’t believe it is slower. Reviews have 0-60 all over the place. I want to see a fully broken in true 0-60 comparison. I would estimate it is around 5.4 seconds to 60.
  9. I remember even a video of the system check showing the lights moving back and forth on startup. There should be another thread about this.
  10. Not all vehicles are effected. It seems to be a bad batch.
  11. I tend to prefer to maintain my own vehicles. I feel much more comfortable if I'm going to potentially own it beyond its warranty to know its complete service life and not just hope the mechanic wasn't having a bad day and decided to cut corners. As a trained auto mechanic I have seen all sorts of really shady practices.
  12. As awesome as the German cars are I would never buy one used. Not unless it had a ton of warranty remaining and I didn’t plan to keep it more than a few years. The SQ5 would hold its value well as long as you don’t own it more than 8-10 years though.
  13. Seriously nothing at all. Closest you will get is maybe a durango R/T or similar but wont handle as well and wont be as quick. The ST starts at 43K in the US and ill bet there are some the leave dealer lots at or below 40K in base trim.
  14. I agree.. In general inflation is crazy. Those who have purchased cars over the span of at least a few decades are getting some serious sticker shock now. But a $30,000 car today is about the same value of a $3,500 car in 1970. Homes are even worse though.. from about $30,000 40 years ago to $180,000 today. One of the problems though is American labor is insanely expensive and it drags the cost of American goods with it. When you add import taxes to the equation that just get relayed directly to the consumer you get shoddy corner cutting products with disgusting price tags. I have a 1986 Lincoln MarkVII in my garage with sheet metal thick enough to stand on the gigantic hood without leaving a dent. You cant even lean on any body panels on the Edge without sinking in. Oh also my 2011 I would say is close to parity in build quality to my 2019 so far that I have noticed. They fixed some issues and added some new ones. Definitely the sacrificial components are much lower quality such as the floor mats. The rear quarter window trim is squishy on the 2019 which i don't like but my 2011 door seals would fall off if touched too hard.
  15. You have confirmed it is the 6F55 8 speed variant in the ST? I have heard stories of 8F57 being derived from the 9 speed also. I'm pretty sure the GM 9 speed can handle the 2.7L torque. I have seen articles saying it was the 6F35 that had gears added for the regular trim models to make the 8F35
  16. I don't know how that would be possible.. You cant even spec out a similarly equipped kia for that price range.
  17. This is my first time reading this too. I definitely agree with some aspects of it. Chrysler seems to add a ton of well though semi gimmicky features into their vehicles. I had a $25,000 Dodge caliber R/T AWD before my 2011 Edge Sport. The dodge had a better sound system by far with the flip down lift gate speakers and pop out dome-light flashlight (pretty useless.. my cellphone screen is probably brighter) and all sorts of hooks and handles to make life easier. In the end though it still groaned and creeked, interior panels fluttered with the subwoofer and couldn't manage to reverse up an icy driveway without spinning around in a 180º. I gladly gave up all the little things for everything that made my Edge superior.
  18. Good point. I’ll see if I get insurance savings. I like the ring system and how it unifies multiple systems seamlessly.
  19. I might have ended up with a Lincoln or even Volvo if the edge ST interior looked like the explorer ST. I haaaate the floating screen and dash arrangement
  20. I have looked into the ring systems but I don’t like the requirements for subscription service to record video. I will likely just do an IP camera system. I have been looking for motion lights that notify other than the ring version but so far nobluck. I may have to just rig up my own system
  21. I'm looking into cameras. They are not the solution but can help tell the story after the fact. I was able to get plenty of footage from the neighbors camera systems and the car is of course stolen and the guys are masked. They were prepared to be filmed. I might get a signal jammer and wire it to a light switch so when I'm home i can jam any attempts to unlock/start the car using a fob range extender. Also the fobs will be kept in a RFID blocking bag now. Biggest thing is I would like to rig up a motion detector light with notifications sent to my phone when triggered. 12ga loaded with 2 salt rounds and 1 deer shot round at the ready next to a crack barrel 1400fps pellet gun (Car is parked right under the bedroom window)
  22. Has anyone had any experiences with car theft or vandalism with their ST? Last night as i prepared for bed a SUV pulled up to my house and 2 guys in ski-masks jumped out and began scoping out my car. They saw they were being watched and quickly retreated. Now I'm keeping the fobs in the microwave until I get an RFID blocking box or bag for them. Also need to grab some locking lug nuts today. Car is definitely going in the garage this spring after a major clean-out.
  23. I would recommend coating the bit and tap with heavy grease to catch chips from going into the PTU unless you are disassembling it. Also use a helical-coil to avoid stripped threads in the future. Those cast aluminum cases are super soft and wont take much to pull the treads right out of it.
  24. ACK!. That definitely needs to be delt with. The fact that so much has lifted would have me suspecting an issue with the entire coating on that surface.
  25. I love my ST. The few gripes so far are 1: cargo net is stupidly small. My dog ate the one from my 2011 but it was twice as big. 2: sync3 is missing some basic features (possibly iPhone faults) reluctantly moved to iOS from BB10 and now voice text is gone. Also no option for shuffle all. Just have to reselect source as iPhone each time. Also can’t use voice commands without carplay to find music on my phone. Biggest is non CarPlay wireless yet. 3: no LED map lights 4: 115/120v but no USB in the rear. (Unless I just haven’t found it)
