  1. You take a 90-100% hit on an older car owned 5-10 years. A new car depending on the Rarity will be 50-70%. Even less for a really sought after model. Being just ratios though it obviously doesn’t reflect the true cost but for the sacrifice in modern/usable features it’s a trade off we all have to deal with. You can buy a Tandy 200 laptop today for $10 or could have got one 30 years ago for $1000. But what good is a 30 year old laptop? Either you enjoyed relevant use of an effective and efficient computer back when it was modern and new. Or save a ton an buy it as a relic.
  2. You can enjoy his countless sneezes and piles of skin cells he left for you. Also the no longer supported FordPass and useless navigation maps while he rides his equity wave and keeps driving a safe, reliable and modern vehicle. I will never own a used car as my primary vehicle. For me a beater or work truck is the only way I buy used now a day.
  3. I have stop-watched mine to 60 with 87 octane in just under 6 seconds. Road had humps and lumps and on a cold day though. I always thought it was good for at least mid to low 5s with 93 and good tires.
  4. MSRP on mine was ($47490) + (dealer Fee $607) + (Registration $190)+ (taxes $2119). I got (-$1000 cash back) + (-$2490 negotiated savings) + (-$14,000 Trade in) + (-5,500 deposit). Total financed was 27416. Ended up with the premiumcare extended warranty also rolled into price. Financing was the scam though. They lied and said i was not approved for my bank or Ford financing and foolishly believed them. This resulted in 6.79% APR financing for 7 years through some obscure local bank with online transaction fees. After never receiving my credit report i questioned them and checked my bank only to discover i was approved for everything and missed my 3.9% 72 month option. Refinanced at 5% before my first payment and plan to do again once rates are below 3%. I always do longer term financing but pay off within 3-4 years to allow payment flexibility in case of hardship.
  5. I see several posts about getting the PCM flashed and the issues being mostly resolved. I'm wondering if its going back into learn mode or they actually changed something. Im about to make a service appointment to see what comes of it.
  6. I have mine all set but I am having trouble with airfare. I cant find a reasonable flight back to CT. I might have to cancel mine or reschedule for a later date.
  7. The only the charging pad and co-pilot assist can be removed with a lower package.
  8. You just listed everything that could possibly make it not a sport. Engine, transmission, suspension. What else matters in this regard? Things like the awesome B&O sound system and co-pilot assist, wireless charging pad, full led lights and sport seats don’t really matter much.
  9. You really need to contact your dealer with this. It is not normal as you can see the majority are seeing claimed fuel economy. I just made it to cape cod and back 300miles round trip and still have 1/4 tank of gas. Cruise was set to 80 and car was packed with 4 people, luggage and a dog in the back.
  10. IIHS also says otherwise. The gen 2 is a superior vehicle in every aspect. I loved my 2011 but my ST is a much better vehicle.
  11. I can’t complain about depreciation with any of my Fords. Compared to any other brand they are extremely comparable. My 8 year old edge sport I got for 37k had a 16k value. If it had been a BMW I would have gotten half that unless it was a rare model.
  12. Yup. Grab a Caddilac horn or an aftermarket low tone loud horn
  13. Don't test drive it.. Just ask how much they would offer for your car. I always used a specific dealership and as my 2011 aged i realized its depreciation was eating into the required equity to buy my next car. Because of this I began entertaining trade in offers even before I settled on the new car. My go-to dealership offered me 6K under Bluebook even after inspecting the car. The car was flawless with only 50K miles. I walked out and never came back again. New dealership offered bluebook right away without even looking at the car once they heard the mileage.
  14. It lost by tenths of a second too. Might have been a drivers race.
  15. The RS did awful in that test. Reviewers had better luck with the 1/4 and 0-60 than these guys did. maybe lower octane was used? Or maybe it was heat soaked?
  16. Again, there is a middle ground. The 2.0 with the right tune and gear ratios will be more economical than a 2.7 properly tuned for the same vehicle. A 2.0 tuned for a small car slapped in a large SUV might actually net lower fuel economy than the 2.7L properly tuned though.
  17. I found one of the flyers. "That feeling continues with the output from a new B&O Sound System.1 Its 10-channel amplifier pumps 800 watts of digitally processed sound through 12 high-performance speakers, including 3 midrange speakers and a subwoofer" http://es/assets/Brochure?make=Ford&model=Edge&year=2019&postalCode=97230
  18. There is a trade off.. its still a big vehicle with a good amount of drag. Going down in available torque might negatively impact economy depending on driving conditions. The time spent accelerating up to speed and the amount of driving at high speed will impact your fuel economy greatly. These engines meet their best economy at specific RPM with no boost and minimal engine load. Going too small will increase load and in turn increase required RPM to maintain speed. If you are stopping and going a lot you will need a new final ratio to benefit from the smaller engine.
  19. But in the S3 it is tuned for more power... also the S3 weighs 1000lbs less than the Q5
  20. I agree, although i haven't found any of the compared vehicles that are claimed to have "better" interiors to actually appear better. Mazda is one i often see it compared to but IMO i wouldn't have bought my ST if it had the Mazda interior. protruding afterthought looking display and oddly retro gage cluster. the cup holders are placed so far back you almost have to use your left hand across your body to reach them. Maybe its my size/proportions and my minimalist preference but the Edge interior since gen 1.5 has been my absolute favorite in the sub 50K range.
  21. More power is always nice. I doubt ill ever buy a tuner but i like to know I could if i wanted to. Maybe I would look into it if I paid off the car kept it and actually bought another DD. Even then I have other toys that will always be faster/more fun to drive. I personally take pride in the fact that it wont lite up the tires. The power distribution system is awesome in the ST. It will chirp before sending power to the rear, chirp again, pull power and distribute for max grip. It is pretty aggressive in the self preservation aspect but the fact ill likely own this car for a while that is a good thing. We have a hairpin turn in my town on a route that i frequent. I used to envy the little Subarus that would be all up on my rear end as i wallowed and decelerated around the bend. Now it stays flat and i actually accelerate thru the turn. The torque vectoring feels odd but keeps it completely under control even with sand on the roads. I get in trouble when i get home and the bread is flat and all the cans have dents in them though. To me a lowered edge doesn't look bad... but looks like a big car, almost station wagonish. I like the CUV look and the ride height is pretty important where i live.
  22. Pretty awesome. The ST trim level gets expensive really quick though. With the options I would want I cant keep it under 56K. I am trying to convince my sister to get an XLT over the Subaru ascent... but the explorer optioned up will be $10,000 more still.
  23. Your suspension work is what would really enhance the sport. I drove a 2018 and it handled better than my 2011 but definitely the ST felt improved over the sport. Power felt somewhat similar but in sport mode the ST was waaay more responsive and fun. I'm sure the dealership used 87 octane in both cars though. For the price difference to me the ST is the better starting platform. I'm sure we will eventually see comparable tunes for the ST to bring it to parity or better in power. I personally would never lower any of my cars and love the way the ST handles/rides. The sport would require some expensive mods to match it.
  24. Definitely unaffected by traction control. It only does the bucking shift under light throttle also. Feels like a standard if you shift and let the engine rpm hang too high. It will usually buck 3-5 times before smoothing out.
