Is there a sensor on the clean side PCV line? Maybe it's seeing some action it's not supposed to? Worth a check and clean.

People don't really rebuild modern mass production engines these days. Easier just to replace the short/longblock or entire engine. Parts cost will kill you piecemeal if new. Tolerances are tight, so you have to have access to the appropriate equipment. As an enthusiast and hobbyist, sure it is possible. But for your daily driver, not really practical to rebuild. At most, I would suggest buying a used block, then replacing the VCT solenoids, belts (maybe tensioner and alternator depending on mileage) timing set, and water pump, and regular maintenance (plugs, pcv valve, maybe intake gasket) before putting it back in the engine bay.

These types of additives are generally bandaids. They may prolong the life of the system somewhat, but in the end the part replacement is almost always needed. Gives you time to plan, but you do need to plan.

alternator, belts & booster definitely. rest you could probably do on your own, with skills you have already demonstrated here on the forum Repairpal estimates for shops to do the alternator range from 590 to 879 for your MY Edge so the dealership is a bit on the high end, but that is to be expected. Belts only the cost of the belts themselves should be tacked on, as removal/installation has to happen anyway. And remember they are likely not discounting the parts either. You may be able to haggle them down to the online price save some $$$ there.

Any way to record the sound? I have never had any issues with the power windows except maybe the speed of operation, which Silicone spray greatly helped.

Yeah definitely needed help there. Maybe compressed air would have been enough to clean it out, but I don't know for sure.

Personally, I am much more fond of the electronic manuals Ford has online, so much easier to search. The paper manuals are also worth their weight in gold, when you are just reading through, with no particular objective in mind.
