Sure am anxious to learn how to change tranny fluid myself
macbwt replied to perrytime's topic in Transaxle (FWD)
I will only change my transmission fluid once a year. That is plenty. -
Busy day today. 1. Video on Lullubelle and how I use her with the inside scoop on what I actually carry around inside and the type of equipment. 2. Video on installing duel front and back facing dash cams 3. Video on Ford Edge basic maintenance 101 identifying components and how to open the hood. This video of for those who only know where the gas tank lid is located. Akirby no dreaded K&N air filter swap out yet, but I am thinking of you. It will happen!!!

In other words do not wait until 260K miles to change the power steering fluid out like some people on this forum. LOL -
I would not wait until 150K miles look at the fluid at 92K miles. I am switching to 60k miles because fluid changes are cheaper than replacing transmissions. or this one

Either is a good choice I have purchased both the Dueler 422's and the Alenza's never had an issue with either tire. You have retirement pegged, enjoy!!!

The truth on your tires. When you get to the point you show in your photograph your tire have a higher potential for failure due to punctures. You will also have a higher potential for hydroplaning. If those were my tires I would be replacing them. Alignments are always separate from tire purchases. Do the struts first then buy tires and have the alignment done at the same time. Then you will be good to go. Never put new tires on with old worn struts or other worn suspension components. Shuddering could be many things, but the PTU jumps out at me first. WWW? -
Just a curiosity note: Does anyone have the ability to provide information on where the Orange Crush ended up by say a vin number search? Curiosity is killing me. Salvage yard or a buy here pay here car lot?

OK MYKEY. Dealer successfully disabled the MYKEY and turned off the limits. However, There is always a However, They were unable to locate and install the actual MYKEY function to show on the display. The Dealer is stumped and unable to get the MYKEY to show up on the dash thus I have no MYKEY. This being my working car does not present much of an issue for me so I am letting it go. Cost to reset MYKEY and Disable 110.00 dollars. So apparently Lullubelle does not want to be limited and has taken upon herself to hide the function and prevent any further limits be placed upon her. Although I though I saw movement under the dash that looked strangely like a gummy bear holding a french fry, but I am not sure?!

Just a note on the leaks. I know this will be hard to do, but do not concentrate on them. Until you are having to replace fluids due to the leaks the repair costs will far outweigh the benefit. My Orange Crush leaked, had leaks and seeped and I never had to add fluid until the power steering hose failed. Same with the axle seal and oil main seal. I recommend working on your maintenance items, changing fluids, spark plugs and getting the struts replaced. Then re-evaluate and keep driving. -

I would not recommend using the radiator point to lift the Edge. Use the jack/lift points. -
Bet i could beat you off the line with my golf cart.

Plugs should be pre gapped. WWW is only stating to double check them. Me I never checked them they looked uniform and I installed them, but hey that is how I roll....Watch my video on the sparkplug change on the 2011 it is virtually the same engine as your 2007 with a few minor changes. Yes you can clean the manifold with throttle body cleaner. I would not work about the MAF sensor just concentrate on the sparkplug change. You can access the MAF so easy that it is not an issue if you are having a problem. Motto is if it ain't broke don't fix it in this case of the MAF. If you wanted to you could remove the PCV and hose it out really good with throttle body cleaner and reinstall it like I did in the video. Note: use throttle body cleaner not carb cleaner. While you are at it this is a good time to actually clean the throttle body. As far as the Gummy Bears they get into everything, just watch out for the one brandishing a french fry!!! Those you have to be careful with. -
Abnormal Steering on the 3.7 Sport

Same thing only difference is motorcraft is a two year warranty and KYB is lifetime. KYB also manufactures OEM shocks for many car company's. I have been unable to determine the sourcing for motorcraft parts. Most likely china. -
If you are going to tow with it you may want to reconsider drilled and slotted rotors. The drill points will cause heat temp differences and cause the rotors to start fracturing at the drill points. Better to go with High carbon steel and ceramic pads of good quality. Then again you may be over weight with this towing combo. Drive safe.

my initial checks do not come up with any special struts for the Sport version. Normal Excel GR2 KYB are listed for limited and Sport -
Yes the shop I use is a family operated business and longtime employees. If you go to a Jiffylube the kid changing your transmission fluid was most likely hired twenty minutes before you arrived. Not to say all are that way but.......you get the picture. Just a note the video of my transmission flush. Gary "the owner" is the one that has done all my video work and and is supportive in helping. It is good for him also. I may also add very openly Christian which reflects in their service.

You will find the choices for struts to be very limited. Yes replacing one strut could feasibly create driveability issues due to one side being weaker than the other. -

I think if you read this posting on the life of the 2008 Ford Edge (Orange Crush) you will gain a lot of answers to your questions. By the way get that transmission fluid changed ASAP!! http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/14129-what-to-expect-at-200000-miles/ -
Texas - Snow = Duh I need to read the left column closer. Just kidding but you may as well get those tires at the best deal now ya ain't getting any younger.!! :hat_tip:

Awful young Edge to be having Transmission Torque mount issues. Orange Crush did not develop the worn torque mount until about 270K miles. Guess it depends how you drive them though. Easy enough to diagnose. I still think ball joints as I had some really lefty righty movements when the ball joint was worn. Jack that thing up and pull the bolts out and give them both a wiggle. If you can move them around with little effort then they are worn. When I changed mine you could move them with a stiff breeze. -

DunePearlEdgeI would recommend watching my videos and you will gain a much better understanding of what you need to have for tools and what you need to do. I also just recently changed the plugs and made a three part series on the plug change and show what needs to be accomplished. You sound as if you have the above beginner knowledge of mechanics and can accomplish these tasks. Note the first time you do the plugs will be the most difficult. Once you do it, it is like riding a bike you never forget. I do not have an AWD but yes a press will be needed. Ball joints - I changed out the whole LCA just because it was almost as much work to change out the and press out the Ball Joint. Check out my LCA review and also the installation video and you will understand better. Just tell your wife that a 2008 ford edge made it to 285K miles and was running great (even with leaks) right up until it was traded in. If you noticed though I am rather partial to the 2011 model with FWD. You are from Chicago and I bet a FWD with Snow tires would be just about as good as a AWD with all weather tires and the FWD would be less expensive to maintain. -
