Which to purchase Ford Edge or Nissan Murano ?
macbwt replied to Dan Burke's topic in Welcome Forum!
The Edge will beat a Murano in a drag race -
Having owned and driven both versions of the 3.5 I can say that the 2011 does seem to have just slightly more pep in the step. The better fuel mileage is a bonus. No matter what i did with the 2008 21-22 mpg was it. The 2011 gets upwards into 26-27mpg and both are/were driven in the same manner.

You may want to watch my video on the spark plug removal and installation the PCV is not just a PCV but an assembly that can only be purchased through FORD. Do not buy the PCV through the parts store as they only sell the PCV and the PCV is connected to a Heat Seated plastic tube that is part of a quick connect assembly. Check out my video on spark plug changes and you will understand exactly what I am talking about. I removed mine and cleaned it with throttle body cleaner and reinstalled it because I was unable to change it out.

What is leaking in these pictures?
macbwt replied to DunePearlEdge's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Just make them snug. Do not over tighten since you are working with aluminum that would make for a bad day. I worked slowly with my change out because the engine was HOT. Cooler engine is a better choice. I have not had one issue and did not used a torque wrench on the plugs. I did use a torque wrench on the intake and followed the pattern and torque specs. Not to mention the 45 degree turn after you hit the torque point on the intake. OH make sure you regrease the boots on the coils with dielectric grease. Unless you plan on selling it then the next guy that buys it can call you names. -

Agreed. -
Nothing to fix or repair. I am slowly pre purchasing some parts in preparation of new shocks and struts, but that will occur later in the year. Blueberry has no issues and Lullubelle will be hitting six figures this week. Very good feeling to have a couple of reliable vehicles.

In Iowa if you want just gasoline you are forced to use 87 octane and that is it. All other octane ratings will be E10 mixtures. I do tend to get better fuel mileage with the higher Octane, but I would not say I see big jumps. I usually burn through the 91 octane averaging about 24mph at speeds of 75-80mph, which is not bad when you consider the speed I am driving. I did get nearly 27 mpg when I took my back road route and was driving 60mph. Lesson is Octane, speed = effect fuel mileage.

That 3.5 duratec is a solid engine and you will be driving it longer than you think without a problem.

Tires do have an affect on the road and make a lot of noise. -
2013 Ford Edge Limited Brake Issues

That Edge could of been sitting around for up to two years. No wonder the brakes are shot. Two years of rust can do a lot of damage. -

From many miles of experience if you are getting uneven wear on the rear tires your shocks are the reason. I have been through this several times and when I see uneven wear on the rear tires I change the shocks. Sometimes one or both may go bad, but with 60k plus there is a fair shot at the rear shocks going bad. I am changing my rears later this month to pre empt the tire wear. Then the struts after that. I have never had a wheel bearing cause wear to my tires, mostly because I never let it go that long just because of the noise the bearing makes. Check the rear shocks for a moist look on the sleeve or cylinder it will be obvious. If nothing then you will have to remove the shock to inspect further so at that being said, just install a new one. -

Agree on wheel bearing possibility. I suggest getting on a straight road and then making small left right corrections. If the noise lessens or gets louder then your problem is not tires but wheel bearings. The next thing would then be to identify which wheel bearing it is. Just a note if you have to turn up the radio to hear the radio then you have a wheel bearing problem. The first time this happens to you can be confusing but after about a dozen you get good at identifying them. -

Shocks are are easy. If it takes you much more than 30 minutes you are drinking too much beer. Struts will take more time, but can still be accomplished in the driveway. -
Abnormal Steering on the 3.7 Sport
macbwt replied to mcali6301's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
I could not really even guess as to the issue. Checking the suspension/motormounts and transmission torque mount along with all the other components would be my starting point. -

22 inch wheels look nice but IMO are a maintenance nightmare and the tires problematic. As noted the alignment even slightly off will end up causing more noticeable wear issues vice the 18-20 inch wheels. Any suspension changes need an alignment afterwards to at least check that nothing moved or changed. -
2013 Ford Edge Limited Brake Issues
macbwt replied to scottk's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Wow warped really fast on you. The rotors these days are so close to the tolerances that turning them to true them back up ends up making them very thin. I would recommend a higher carbon content rotor to help get rid of heat and then ceramic pads. -
Took some time but ole Lullubelle pulled a 26.7mpg out of her tail pipe today and is running better and better.

Omar, Just kidding ya but if you would drive on the road instead of the sand your gas mileage would be better. Seriously are the octane ratings there that much different than the US? I would have to fuel up at the airport to get that type of octane.

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?

I will have to remember to waive at you as I pass by that 110K mile mark very soon. -

I really cleaned mostly due to the intake not for the plugs. If I did not have to remove the intake I would of just removed the coils and changed the plugs. As you could see I like to collect acorns in the air intake box. Just how I roll.
