  1. Keep us posted. I need to have mine looked at would prefer to have some more info to give them to speed up the process if it is the same issues.
  2. Yes I have experienced the trans issue, check out the ST subforum as there is much talk about the new 8 speed and its shifting issues. There seem to be quite a lot of people, including me, who have had issues with this trans.
  3. Who buys a mass produced Ford for resale value? Or most cars for that matter? The depreciate before your done signing the paperwork. Heck I lease mine since I want a new ride every three years and like a warranty just in case something bad happens. Which is good in this case since I will only have to put up with the absolute worst gas mileage of any vehicle I have ever owned. And I have driven some old vehicle that I only paid a few hundred dollars for that got better gas mileage than this POS. Then add the random trans stuff. Wow.
  4. I am honestly wondering if there is some sort of leak. I mean the computer says 16.3 since I bought it so I am not sure how the manual calculation could be so far off. I mean I assume that no one else's is actually off by anymore than a tenth or so. I mean it is off by more than 2mpg. The problem is I do not smell gas or see any leaks with a quick look around. I am going to look more over the weekend and take the engine cover off and peak around. What do you all think, is it possible that the computer is off that much? I do pop up the instant and it is in the right range cruising along. I mean the 7th to 8th gear issue where it does not shift most of the times could be some small drop since the RPM's drop 400 rpm at 65 when it shifts to 8th. But that would show in the computer and instant. I am just baffled. I mean there was only the one 140 mile trip on the highway and that did not really move the computers number much, a few tenths up then back down to normal.
  5. My ST came with a receiver on it so I would say yes they do work. The sensors are mounted beside the hitch and in the same spot on a non hitch equipped model so one can be added from what I understand.
  6. Nice. I just went back down to 13.9 on the last fill. Strangely the computer still says 16.3 and 16.4 on my trips. Trip 1 has never been reset and says 16.4, I got it at 200 miles. I have only been on the highway once for a trip longer than say 10 miles. I have tracked 1500 miles on Fuely and it says average 14.8 and the car just turned 3000 miles.
  7. The 7 or 8th gear thing is more of an annoyance of mine since I am getting crap gas mileage. It does drop like 300 rpm cruising at 65 with that upshift so who knows maybe it would help a little in my case. But it does shift fine into 8th when cruising at 75 or even 70. The trans most likely just needs a program update to fix most issues mentioned. The delay I get seems to be it not knowing if it wants 2nd or 3rd gear or something. It eventually gets there but it is bothersome. Maybe iut is just me because while I obey, for the most part, traffic laws I do push it as far as I can without getting a ticket. I like to accelerate, I like to feel the boost hit and the vehicle accelerate. It pulls nicely so I enjoy it. I like to floor it. So maybe the trans just does not know what I want it to do. I guess I could just drive in Sport all the time but when I get cruising speed I would need to turn it off so it shifts to the highest gear for that speed. So it is turning on when taking off and then back off when I am at speed and that is just silly. It would be nice if the Advance Trac setting to Sport Mode would adjust the throttle response to that of Sport Mode and leave the trans shifting normal, I guess I want the best of both modes. I love the vehicle but it could be better and I guess I expect more from a $45K+ vehicle. Right down to the fake exhaust noise, why not just put a better exhaust on it. Grrrrr.
  8. Are you going over 45 MPH when checking it? I mean my 2019 still displays the lines regardless but only works over 45.
  9. Yes but sometimes when it is available you can't just ask for it. You have to go through the steps that your trans is shifting bad and yada yada and some dealers just don't say 'ok we will update it' Mine may because my dad works there and they know the family. But I have seen in the past with other vehicles that basically would have to give the the TSB number and read the problems off it like a script. Lol.
  10. Some have posted it is 5.7, reviewers post that. Which is pretty damn quick for a 4600lbs SUV. The stock Focus ST was only said to be able to hit 60 in 6.2 seconds, according to the same reviewers. I would say the Edge St is quick. Would it be nice if it was .1 or ,2 seconds quicker. Sure. Maybe they will get the software right and it will be due to a hair quicker shifts. My complaints though are not about the 0-60 they are about the strange and inconsistent shifts and actions of this unit. Heck sometimes it will shift to 8th and other it will not, on the same road, same speed, same everything. Sometimes it just hesitates for seconds to make a shift just hanging in limbo. Other times it does not downshift and decides turning 250RPMs does not necessitate a downshift even with the gas pedal on the floor, other times it does downshift and it adds to the smiles. I know it is not a manual but still I have been driving for 30 years and this is becoming the worst I have had a trans shift and I expect a new computer controlled unit to do a tad better.
  11. Hopefully a software update could help that. I assume speed is software controlled via changing pressures. Maybe I am wrong.
  12. Yeah that is the problem with the TSB, you have to tell the service people a bunch of stuff to get them to road test, troubleshoot, have the problem crop up for them then they update. I wish you could just say to them please update to the latest software for me.
  13. My big question is are they just going to reprogram them when they find a solution or am I going to have to take it in several times and list my complaints and then have them try to reproduce them and then eventually after several visits finally just update the software. That would be tiresome.
  14. Problem is no matter how I drive, nice and grandma like or like normal I have got nothing better than 15mpg on my mostly 55-65 mph drives. Normally I get less than 14 but this week I got 15 for once. 4mpg less than the city rating his ridiculous especially when the F-150 with the same motor gets 18, my brother has one. I drive this less hard than my Focus and I ran that as much as possible trying to hit full boost. Especially after it was tuned. Still managed to get 23mpg, so 1 less than the city rating. This thing is 4-5 less and gets worse mileage than my 1999 Jeep GC v-8 I had years ago.
  15. Having owned a Focus ST for almost 3 years and coming to the Edge ST, I agree with Nick, it should have and could have been a little more! I know it is not a car let alone hatchback but there are some things they could have done better as it seems all the did was tweak the suspension a little, add 2 more gears and a little power to the already there Sport. They should have tweaked the Transmission shifting to make it more ST ish, quicker shifts would be nice and refine that sport mode a bit. I know it is asking much to drop a DSG in there but they most likely could have made the transmission quicker. The thing just seems like it has no idea of what you actually want it to do. It does not shift, for me at least, when I want or expect it to. There is no reason that when turning a corner and flooring it that it should not down shift to the correct gear and instead only drop one instead of two and start off from 2500 rpm and full boost trying to accelerate. I should not be in third gear at 15-20 mph I should be in 2nd. I should not need to put the thing in Sport mode just to take a corner with some gusto and then back to normal so the damn thing will upshift properly and not hold at 5000 rpm for longer than it should before shifting again. The paddles are just there for people to play with since they are useless for any kind of sporty driving due to the transmission shift times. Heck traveling on a flat road at 65mph sometimes the trans is in 8th gear as it should be and others it is in 7th and the paddles will not even make it go to 8th, it just flashes at you and does not do your bidding, this happens to me daily and does not matter if the trans is hot or cold. Don't get me started on the advance track system. In the Focus ST there were three modes, normal, sport, and track, which was basically normal, relaxed traction control and stability control(allowed wheel spin and fun) and Off(everything off including pseudo limited slip) . The Edge ST is on, Sport, Trac Off and fully Off. Sport seems to engage anytrime you want to have a little dun, it allows only a little bit of spin and god forbid you want the rear to step out even an inch or two. Traction off allows tire slip/spin but no slip and slide. Full off is where the fun begins. Sure it allows it but if you are going to name a mode Sport then let it at lease be sporty. The Focus would allow you to roast the tires if you so felt the need in Sport mode as it seemed to not want to stop it if you were flooring it. I am not expecting RS modes here but a happy medium would have been nice. The only mode you could have any 'fun' in the snow is the Full Off mode and I feel Sport should have allowed some fun without allowing maybe donuts in a parking lot, but maybe some slide the rear out a hair fun. Heck I have seen my dad's Escape kick out more in normal mode. That is all I got for now. The ST label on this thing is just that a label. I hope the Explorer ST is more than just a name thrown on and some more power.
  16. I got 15.1 on this last fill. Driving like it is some sort of race car.
  17. Well I did get a whopping 15.1 this last week so that is actually better, 1.3mpg up from the last fill up. I am not sure how accurate the computer in the car is though since mine says that I have 16.4 for the life of the vehicle. At says 16.8 since the last reset that I did when I took a 140 miles round trip with the cruise set at 75, it has been 500 miles since then and it calculated 24mpg for that part of the drive. I got 18.1 for the full tank. When I say my mileage sucks my calculations make it so I have got 15.0 avg mpg for the last 1300 miles. Not even close to the city mpg rating of 19, hell I would be happy with 16-17 and my trips to work are only 10 minutes but that is on a 2 lane road doing 55-65. Needless to say I am not happy with the fuel economy of this thing since my brother gets 18mpg in his 2.7TT F-150 4x4. I like to drive quickly with a lot of 3/4+ throttle use but that is still damn low.
  18. I did not expect the Edge ST to carve up a road like my Focus ST or like a Fiesta ST can. It is quicker feeling that my Focus with a stock tune, that woke up when tuned even mildly. It is great vehicle for what it is and I did happen to keep up and even creep closer, as we kept going, with a WRX that was going all out from a turn. I turned behind him on a back road and he floored it. So it is not a slouch by any means, but with the power it has I did expect it to be quicker and obviously so do the reviewers. The handling is pretty impressive for the weight and size of the vehicle though. It is the transmission I can't stand but I did come from being able to control my own gear choices and this could be fixed with some programming changes that hopefully Ford makes. The problem with the Ford fixing it though is you will have to trick them into applying the fix because they most likely will not just update the software without you complaining about the transmission and mentioning the issues they list in the fix. Of course that depends on your relationship with the Service Department once a corrective fix is issued. All in all I love it even with the crap mileage I get and the random delays, hiccups, not downshifting enough stuff I found.
  19. Welcome! Enjoy the new ride.
  20. Use Fuely the last 1000 miles. @DB ST This winter was particularly more cold than most here with temps regularly below 0 F down to -20 F. At first I would remote start and let it warmup but stopped doing that to see if I got better mileage. Sadly I got better mileage on the tanks I let it warm up some.
  21. Oh it got around 24 on the highway with the cruise set at 75 for a 140 round trip. But those trips are far a few between for me. And I am not using the trip calculator, although it is higher than the manual calculations. Since new the computer says 16.4 and so doe the one I reset when I got it. The vehicle now has 2600 miles on it and has only taken one highway trip so far that was more than 10 miles. The instant economy is always over 20mpg and pushes 25ish whenever cruising. My manual calculations using Fuely are the ones I am going by, the ones since I started using it are 15.2, 14.0, 18.1(this one had the 140 mile trip), 13.9 and 13.8. As you can see they are going down a hair every fill and that covers the last 1073 miles. The first one was 87 octane and me driving like I normally would, the others are all 93 octane with the last two from a Sunoco station since the Valero i use normally did not have 93 the last two weeks. The 13.9 mpg one was me taking it easy and accelerating like my mother would and not anywhere like I would. I did not expect Focus type mileage but around the same distance from the City rating would be nice. For the 20,000 miles I had that I would say it average 23 mpg over its life with me and the last 5000 miles were tuned for 'stage 2' from Stratified for 93 octane and pushed close to 24psi. That still managed to get 22mpg out of those tanks. I know smaller vehicle, less pistons but I pushed that as far as I could all the time I was driving it and took it on fun drives just to see what it could do, with many runs well into the triple digits back down and back up. I would be happy with 16-17mpg out of this thing, 17 would be great.
  22. Sadly I have tried both start it and go and start it when I let the dog in the house and put her in her pen and start and let it warm up for 5 or more minutes. It actually got better gas mileage warming it up, and gets the same if I drive it like a little old lady on her way to church or like I normally would drive. As for the Focus I drove that like a cop was on my ass at all times and I was trying to outrun them. Full boost or none at all. I am not sure what may or may not be wrong but my brothers Eco 2.7 F-150 gets better mileage that this thing and 5 mpg under the city rating is ridiculous. I had a Jeep GC with a 5.2 v-8 that got better gas mileage and that was a 1999. If no one else seems to be getting these low numbers than I assume something is funny with mine. Since no one so far seems to be getting this low. If it increases when temps stay up for more than a day I guess it may be easier to figure out if it is some sort of problem with it running rich to warm up or some crap. But it should be in closed loop mode by the time I hit the end of my road. I guess I just expected the 8 speed to get better mileage. My mother drives basically the same trip daily in her MKC 2.3 with the 6 speed and she gets 20mpg. Dad drives mostly highway but with hills and gets 22.4mpg in his 2.0 Escape with the 6 speed. I thought the point of adding turbos was to increase mpg with smaller motors. I am basically getting 200 miles a tank out of this filling it when it says I have around 40 miles less. That is horrible even if you calculate in the added 40 miles to get 240 a tank. Might as well go back to the Focus with the 11.5 gallon tank in it if I feel like filling it every 6 days. If I did not love the thing so much I would be trying to get rid of the damn thing. Then add in the wonky transmission that has a mind of its own sometimes.
  23. Mine sometimes just bucks on moderate accel and also has no idea of what to do when you accelerate quickly and then let off because you have reached the speed you wanted to be at. It seems to just thijnk you are going to keep going or slam on the brakes of something. Like it has no clue what is next so it then shifts after hanging the revs and sometimes I need to put my foot back on the gas just to let it know I am at my cruising speed. Then they are the lack of downshifts when say turning onto a new road while moving still. Turn and hit the gas and it stays in gear and does not downshift, so you are flooring it and the revs are at 2500-3000 RPM and the engine slowly picking up the pace but should have downshifted. It is supposed to be sporty for crying out loud. There should be no need to bog the engine down just because it is a TT and can boost through. The transmission in my mom's MKC 2.3T is better at being performancy and proper shifting. I was just driving along today going from 40-45 and the trans stuttered like it wanted to shift somewhere.
  24. It says intelligent 4 wheel drive so I wonder if it even has a 2wd option, selection with that 4wd system.
  25. I have traction control off for every drive. Sometimes I turn the Advance Track off totally in case the rear wants to kick out since we have a bit of sand on the ground still. Still does it and not because the system is trying to activate to stop the slippage sideways since I am going straight at the time.
