I am not complaining about the capacity. The reason for a forum, I thought, was so you could get other peoples experiences as well as suggestions based on a larger pool of people than just the locals or dealer. I have gotten feedback and it is that everyone else is getting better. As for the tanks reserve, pardon me for never having a vehicle in over 3 decades of experience that had a 3 gallon reserve capacity. And compared to my last few Fords that did not have that much so I was wondering if others have found this, to which no one has really answered how much they normally put in the tank. You see I could just go to my dealer and ask, but they have sold 1 ST and it is mine and they dealer traded it to get it for me, they have 2 more on the lot. The other close dealer still has the same 2 on the lot. So they know nothing and will not look it up in the system to see if others may have found this to be an issue, I was there today for other reasons. I asked this forum because there are more ST owners here than there are in my local area. And pardon me for hoping this community would be ass helpful as the Focus ST community was over the years I had that car. So far from my post I have found that others get better mileage than I and some even have the same driving style and still get better.

See yours is doing better than mine. I did not calculate the first 1500 miles I just went by the computer. It has increased slightly from 16.4 to 16.6 for total since new and total since I reset it when I got it, it had 100 miles on it. My daily drive is about 8 miles to work mostly on the highway which is why I am a little dissapointed. I actually rarely drive much in the actual city where I stop and go often. I do not warm it up anymore as I have said. I have taken it to the dealer, they just look blankly and state to reset the mileage and try again. I do reset my Trip 1 now every fill just to see what it says. Then I use an app to add gallons filled, always fill up, and mileage I am at. It does the math and tracks my mileage based on my driving habits and actual fuel used. I idle very rarely and have tried both using start/stop and without. I have taken two road trips that were 150 miles round trip and both after the vehicle was broken in. I just expected better based on my previous vehicles and daily commute. I drive home everyday to let the dogs out as well mid day so that is a total of about 36-40 miles a day. It has gotten marginally better since I was only getting 13.8 mpg each tank when I started logging, which is why I even started because I was only getting 200 miles a tank between fills. I just always got close to the city rating or 1-2mpg higher on all my other cars over the life of them and drive the same way. So to get 3mpg less than the city rating is a little shocking. To me it is not about the money to fill it, it is about the fact that I am not enjoy8ing my car because it is all that is on my mind is that I need to get gas more than once a week and I do not like that because it is a pain in the ass considering it takes more gas and the 93 pumps seem to be slow as death around here. I like only needing to fill once a week or maybe getting 8 days out of it. I bought this vehicle and every other one I have ever owned because I enjoy driving and do it as a stress reliever and I find it fun. I am not finding it fun anymore with this vehicle because I am paying attention to the go pedal usage and the gas gauge.

What your 'counter logic' does not seem to understand is that I have done this type of driving and mileage calculation for over 30 years and this is by far the worst MPG of any vehicle I have even owned. Other Ford's I have access to via family members owning them seem to get far better mileage and are all Eco0Boosted vehicles. I also seem to not be able to get anymore than 15.5 gallons of gas into this vehicle when it says it will be empty in 20 miles, compared to my last Ford that would fill 10.5-11 gallons into its 11.5 gallon tank. I get less miles per tank with an 18.5 gallon vehicle than I did with a vehicle with an 11.5 gallon tank because my MPG, calculated by hand or computer , is abysmal. Any vehicle I have driven the computer calculation would get near its city rating given my driving style and daily commute, within 1mpg. Even going by the computer this is 2.5mpg short of that. I fiull-up when it says I have 20-40 miles left on the tank, and that used to be every 200 miles but now has increased slightly to around 240. That is rediculous, I am not driving a 1992 Viper, I am driving a damn 2019 vehicle. It does not matter if I drive like a little old lady or a race car driver, I have tried both in my 4 months of ownership. Others seem to be getting in the low 20's in this post so if I am getting 16 then something may actually be wrong with my ride, but before I go to the dealer I like to see if others are having the issue. Just like with the crappy programming of the transmission, which they made better but still not perfect. And I got better MPG when I did sit and idle with remote start than I do just firing it up and leaving in 30-60 seconds. I got better MPG when I used 87 than I do with 93. I am hoping that it is just the winter gas or the fact that it was cold as balls but it is getting warmer now. Either way I was sold on the MPG being somewhere near the low end rating like my previous vehicles. I lease the vehicle so it is not as easy to just go get another one without me figuring if it is worth it to trade it in and break the lease. Plus I got D Plan on it so it was not full price compared to another vehicle I would get.

Why are you talking about this still. MPG has always been calculated by the amount of miles driven divided by the gallons used. It is the same exact calculation the EPA uses in their driving cycle tests. They do not use a computer in the car to calculate it. They have a specific course they sake art specific speeds using gas that has no ethanol in it. People have been using this methods for decades, long before the car computer told you what you were getting. It is in fact the only way to know what MPG you get on your daily route with your specific conditions. It is Miles Per Gallon for crying out loud. The EPA does not drive the car in a straight line without stopping for city mileage tests, get this they stop and go like you would if driving in a city. Of course they do not drive like I do, they drive casually with a light foot. Not flooring it stop sign to stop sign. But I also do not drive in the City much and my drive is mostly at 55-65 mph the same every day. With speeding up to and slowing down to 55-65mph a few times as I change roads. So I would like to get at least close to city mileage but do not. I get less mileage than I did with a 1999 Jeep GC V-8. I get less than a full size f150 pickup truck. Granted I enjoy my drives so I also accelerate hard sometimes, I did buy the car for that purpose. I just compare it to how close my Focus ST that was tuned got on the same drives, not the actual mpg as that would be silly, but the closeness to the city rating I got on that. I am not expecting 24mpg here, I was hoping for 17-18 though. As for how many miles you can travel on a gallon, the only true way to do that is to get on a flat road and travel a certain distance at a certain speed and see how much gas was used for that distance and do the math. That is an unrealistic calculation because no one does that all the time so it is useless since conditions change and it would be wrong. What you want is 'your' mpg based on your driving style and your route you take. Mine is apparently 16mpg on the last tank on my daily commute. On an extended highway drive the computer said 24 on one and 22 on another for the duration of the trip. I did not fill up before leaving and fill up when I arrived and see what the gallons used was as I did not care that much. But if my mileage is off by 1.4mpg on the computer compared to the math then I guess I got 20.6 and 22.6 on those trips. Not the 26 rating but I was doing 75 with the cruise on. Now as a comparison my 2003 MB C230K was rated at 29mpg and it would get 32 on a 350 miles trip through the PA mountains and NYS with the cruise set at 75. Either way my Edge sucks compared to what other in this thread have been getting for mileage.

The car's computer calculates the idle time just the same as the math. If you let your car sit and idle the computer calculates 0mpg for that time frame. And it will drop if you just sit and idle all day. I just assume the computer calculation is off on purpose to make people feel better, since I am sure if they were ever called out on it they would say it is not supposed to be an exact reflection of the mileage. It is for people like my father who is in his 70's and to lazy to calculate it and to old to care and believes what it says. Heck his Escape has average 22 mpg over it's 2 years of lease as of now and he does mostly highway driving. My mothers MKC is at 20.2 mpg and she is fine with that as well. I just expect a hair more, maybe 1 or 2 mpg and I would be happy. Heck if it was consistent I would be happy but it has ranged from 13.8 to 18.1 per tank, the 18 was with a 140-150 mile round trip on the highway. Anyway I will just deal with it for 3 years and move on to another vehicle and it will probably not be another Ford. I only asked on here to see what others may be getting. I guess I have an oddball one. I just expect more since my brother gets over 20 on his Ecoboost F150. My computer average for the life of the car is 16.6 and my mileage based on data is 15.4 for thye last 2445 miles. Car has 4000 on it now. And I do not idle long at all, I only warm it up maybe a few minutes when it was super cold but not at all the last few tanks. Not to mention the engine shuts itself off when stopped anyhow.

Update. Filled today and got 16 on the nose but the computer said 17.4. Still strange it is off that much. Funny thing is that was a tank of 93 and I got 16, last tank before that I got 16.9 on 87. Same driving style, actually probably took it easier on her this last week.
-
Thanks I will try that.

A quick question for those who have the TSB done, do any of you use Forscan on an iPhone and if so does it still work? Mine no longer recognizes the PCM and wants me to manually enter the part number, but my other apps work to monitor the car.
-
Thanks for the update. I will fillup either tomorrow or Friday so I will get the latest numbers, this last tank I used 93 to see of it is better or worse. I have been seeing better numbers on 87 than 93 so this will be interesting. It will also be the first full tank with the TSB installed. The computer so far says 17.3 for the tank, in the past that has been over 1mpg optimistic compared to the actual math. My average from new according to the computer has increased from 16.4 to 16.6 in the last few weeks though. All in all I am still disappointed it is so low. It is fun to drive so it kind of outweighs the lousy mileage. That tank being larger than my Focus ST still lasts a week so I guess I can't complain that I have to fill multiple times in a week.

The Euro's probably require the autolevelers as well as washers. The leveling system should use sensors on the front and rear sway bars if it is anything like the Benz system was 16 years ago. So maybe dropping any of those parts caused them to not be able to work correctly but like I said I had the system on my Focus so I do not see how they could not get it to work.

It has been a week since I got the TSB done. It shifts so much better now but could still use some tweaking here and there to be perfect. But it shifts to 8th as it should everytime it should. I can even bounce between 7th and 8th with the paddles which I could not do before at 65 mph. It still is indecisive on the downshift but that seems to be just an auto trans issue and if I paddle down a gear it is fine, although if I can paddle down then I think the damn computer should have done it for me since the trans is at the correct RPM's to allow it. Can't comment on fuel economy since mine gets crap mileage anyway but mine did somehow increase last tank from 13.8 to 16.9 somehow even though I am driving exactly the same as always, but that was only 2 days after the TSB so it could not possibly be the reason. Reverse seems to be slower to engage than before I noticed. I tend to let off the brake assuming it is engaged like it used tor but it is not so I get a buck. I think that is about it for now.

I assume it would be like any intercooler and really have no noticeable gains but instead less loss when heatsoaked. I know my stock ST charge air temp increases about 50 degrees during a normal daily floor it to accelerate run. Maybe through 2 gears from 0-60 before letting off. And that is horrible. My tuned Focus ST with a Depo Racing 3.5 on it would increase maybe 4-5 degrees running it hard and accelerating up to over 100 and down for corners and back up to 100+. From a stop. The factory IC was known to increase at least 70 degrees. So while there really is no gain per se there should be a noticeable steady powerband with no loss. It is one upgrade I am looking for on my ST even if I do not tune it.
-
It is strange since my 2016 Focus ST had adaptive Bi-Xenons and they seem to be using the same implementation of lenses that rotate left/right with the steering. These are not multi LED units like the Europeans use. Not sure why they can not get it to work. As for auto-leveling, I am not sure they use that as if they did it would be on all HID headlights, I had a 2003 Merc that had Bi-Xenons and it had auto leveling and headlamp washers as it used to be required to import them. Not sure why it is not now. But it does seem the Ford HID's are aimed lower than those I had in 2003.

I believe Roll Control can not be disabled. @omar302 hit the nail on the head though, it disables traction control and Advance Trac. So you can do donuts or slide the rear out. Just turning traction control off, one press, will not allow any sliding or kicking out the rear. Sport Mode is nice but I wish they made it like the Focus ST where is pretty much turned off traction but allowed some slippage of the vehicle if you were playing, before intervening. Sport on the Edge kicks in the traction control to quick for my tastes and I never use it because it kicks in to much for wheel spin on take off from a stop say tuning a corner. The Focus would let you light em up if you wanted to in Sport Mode, so much so that if you had a tune using a Cobb Accessport you could use Cobb's traction control instead which was more tuneable, controllable. All you would do is put it in Sport mode to disable the factory and use the Cobb setup which was fuel/brake based instead of just brakes. Anyway fun mode is with it all off on the Edge.

And I understand that. But I am getting less than the city rating, less than what an EcoBoost F150 gets, and that is sad. I got 16.9 on my last tank according to the math of miles driven and gallons put in. The computer calculated 18.0 on the same tank, reset the trip when I filled it. Needless to say I am a little shocked at the crap mileage this vehicle gets considering most of my driving is going around 55-65 mph. I do not expect the 26 rating but the 19 city rating or even 18 would be nice. My brother has an F150 and gets in the low 20's with the 2.7 in it. I may accelerate quick but damn. Not to mention this thing tells me I need gas when over 3 gallons is left in the tank and it says I have 18 miles left. My Focus did not do that, it pretty much took 10.5 to 11 gallons every fill on the 11.5 gallon tank. I ran that car like it was a race car and I repeatedly could go more miles between fills with a tank that had 7 less gallons in it. I was shocked when I got over 250 miles to the tank this fill. Oh well looks like I should have got the Kia Stinger instead or something else. At least the TSB fixed the crappy shifting and I can get into 8th gear when doing 60 so maybe the mileage will increase with the engine turning 400 revs less. And it does for the most part drop down to the appropriate gear when turning corners so accelerating out of them is not lugging the darn engine. If I can get it up to hold 17-18 I will be happy I guess. I don't think it can go much more for my daily drives.

Where are the microphones though? I would love tro disable this, I had a Focus ST and you could unplug the system on that but it was a tube that fed from the engine not a microphone.

It is posted in the Poor Trans Shifting thread. A PCM software update to correct shifting concerns that are happening with the new 8 speed.
-
I did not try it yet really. I will though. It seems that there could be some tweaks to engine management but it could just be some throttle changes and it feels more connected now. It just seems there is a much sportier feel with the throttle/engine/transmission responsiveness. Hopefully it is not just because it needs to learn or something. It feels better and still smooth, just get actual response when you push the gas down. Even from a stop, which is where I noticed it most during my normal drive, slipped the rears a little without flooring it, just an aggressive takeoff.
-
Thanks for the update. I have been getting 18.5 according to the computer on this tank so far. Have not really changed my driving other than taking that last highway trip last tank. Will see what the actual is when I fill up. Also did the Trans TSB yesterday so maybe next tank will be better since it is shifting into 8th like it should at 65 now.
-
Well I got the TSB performed. First impressions are as follows. It seems to shift better all around and more firm. Also seems that the throttle is a little more responsive in Normal mode, closer to what Sport mode gives you. I can now bounce with the paddles between 7 and 8 at 65 mph which I could not do before, if it was in 8 and I dropped down to 7 it would not go back to 8. Also it always shifts to 8 now at over 55-60 mph, no more wonder if it will or not. Of course it could all be because it was reset and needs to learn or maybe that I drop my dad's Escape with a 2.0T for a day. Lol. All in all with a few drives back and forth to work today, I go home to let the dogs out during the day, it seems to be a night and day difference and the throttle in driving around town seemed more responsive. Even the instant mpg seems better like it is locking the TC sooner or more or something. Seems to be locked in better all around. Only time will tell as it 'learns' but I hope it stays close to the way it is right now.
-
That is what I noticed while driving. Once in 3rd I can hit 16-17.5, have not hit the magic 19-21 overboost yet. In 1st and 2nd I hit only around the 12.5 mark. I did notice even with a tune on my Focus ST that I only hit peak with a serious load on the engine, like 4th gear and up at 100mph where I would hit 23.8 on my 93 tune.
-
Nice. Mine says 16.5 now on the clock for total mpg. Calculated is not quite as optimistic. About 1.5 mpg lower than the computer. I took another highway trip last week and the computer said 18.8 for that tank,. I reset trip one when I filled. The actual calculation, math, said I got 17.4 on that same tank. About 150 miles of that tank were 75mph cruise set. This thing sucks at even being close to what the ratings are.
-
I am wondering if boost is limited in 1st gear like it is on the Focus and Fiesta ST's. On the Focus ST I know it is limited in 1st and 2nd to prevent massive wheelspin. While that is not a problem on the Edge ST I am wondering if they may have set a limit to protect the driveline from getting a jolt on launch.

Sync 3 & CarPlay problem Arrgh!
jamie1073 replied to timfountain's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Is that just on the wifi or did you download the file on a computer and update via USB drive? I used to get that on my 2016 when I did it's updates, on my focus st. I got it to work eventually with the USB drive but had to play with it and break the file into two parts(found out how to online.). You can just take it to the dealer though and have them do it since it is under warranty. -
Getting an oil change Tuesday so I am having this done as well.
