Ford Edge RS

Recommended Posts

Rumors have been ripe for a few months now about the appearance of a future Ford Edge RS.  Does it seem probable or likely? Yes.  Now that Ford is drifting into the crossover market heavily, it's extremely likely that we will seen an Edge RS.

According to people in Dearborn, and Edge RS may not happen until the next redesign.

Thoughts on an Edge RS?

Robert - we’re getting mixed rumors about the next Edge platform.  Any insight as to whether it will be C2 (Transverse FWD/AWD) or CD6 (Longitudinal RWD/AWD)?   The latter would make it much easier to do a proper Edge RS.

If it is the next generation Edge the G3 that has the RS badge they might as well put the 3.5L EcoBoost in it.  If it is the G2 Edge that carries the RS  then use a variation of the the Lincoln 3.0L TT.  It will need well over 400HP to honor the RS name I would hope for closer to 450hp, any less and the magazines will pan it as nothing more than a marketing gimmick. If Ford makes a true hot rod RS Edge I will be very interested in owning one.

Wouldn't be suprised if the RS is a hybrid powerplant of some sort.  Diminishing numbers of pure combustion engines remaining in the top ranks as time marches on.

G2 platform can't handle 400hp without reworking the suspension.

Also, tuned 2.7 is already pushing 400hp and over 450 torque.

Why pay 60k as opposed to 2k for tune plus mods to hold tires down.

The 2020 Explorer based Interceptor Utility with the 3.0L TT was quicker in 0-60, top speed and lap times than the Dodge Charger Police versions (both RWD & AWD). And it is expected that the the Explorer ST will be based on this Interceptor Utility. So the future of Ford Performance SUVs still looks bright 😀.

As 48 volt systems come on line the starter motor could transform and become a starter/ alternator /  power adder and could add 25 to 40 HP on demand.  And electric assist turbos will make boost more like a supercharger. So many ways to make cars better by just moving to a 48volt system.

Mine is handling well past that & doing fine.

Totally agree & support your points!
