  1. My MFT doesn't reconnect once it disconnects. E.g if I drive the wife's escape it pairs with her phone in the garage. Once it disconnects it would not try to connect to my phone. Or if you walked away with the engine running and went out of range it would not reconnect when you came back into range. Hoping this fixes that but haven't tested it yet. As for iPhone vs android - it's all about marketing and consumer preferences.
  2. They open to provide extra engine cooling if needed, otherwise they stay closed at highway speed for better fuel economy (according to the new F150 description), so I guess it's both.
  3. Just did both vehicles and both took no more than 30 minutes - no issues.
  4. I thought the shutters were for fuel economy, not temperature regulation.
  5. Washing off the wheels after driving in snow/slush and salt is really important (or so they say - we only get a couple of inches per year).
  6. Not really but if anyone has done it I would guess tirerack.
  7. AWD helps you get going on ice, but it sure won't help you turn or stop.
  8. What other possible reason could there be for releasing 3.7 for all vehicles, then shortly thereafter retracting it for a subset of those vehicles? This is software 101 and I've been doing it for 29 years. I'm telling you there was some incompatibility in 3.7 in some vehicles. That incompatibility no longer exists in 3.8. And nobody from Ford is going to tell you the exact reasons just like Microsoft isn't going to tell you the exact reason why they pulled a certain feature from Windows 10 or why it's not compatible with a certain piece of hardware.
  9. Yeah, the message is pretty simple: We found a problem with 3.7 on some vehicles after it was initially released so we pulled it for those vehicles. Now it's fixed in 3.8. Just because 3.7 could be installed and "appeared" to work initially doesn't mean there would not have been problems later - problems significant enough for them to pull the update. But don't let simple logic get in the way of your conspiracy theories.
  10. I think it's more a case of "we don't have a permanent fix for it yet" - I think they're actually redesigning the part so it doesn't keep happening.
  11. So much for "Ford is abandoning MFT owners......"
  12. Do a search for Fuel Tank Leaks before you buy and stick with FWD if possible to avoid PTU issues.
  13. It's available for my 2012 Focus, 2013 Fusion and 2014 Escape.
  14. I don't know for sure but in my experience when they do something like this it's usually because of a physical limitation of some kind such as not enough room for a traditional filter. This is why the V8 Lincoln LS had no tranny dipstick - there simply wasn't room for it in the engine bay. That plus the 150K fluid change recommended interval started the "sealed for life" rumor as if there was something magical about the transmission or the fluid (there wasn't - it was the same as the 5R55 in the Explorer). My buddy the retired ford tranny engineer still recommended 30K fluid changes on that vehicle.
  15. Yeah - jiggle the shifter and move it in and out of Park a few times. Could be the Park shift interlock.
  16. How the heck would I know? Log in and see if it says you have an update available.
  17. Don't think that's the same problem, but it may be related. The earlier problem was at the A-pillar in the front of the vehicle. Assume you checked the obvious - window left open, etc. Could be a leaky seam in the wheel well. Also make sure the weatherstripping around the rear door is intact and in place.
  18. I've driven a R8 on a road course (with an instructor of course) via thextremexperience.com . Also drove a Porsche 911 Turbo twice and a Ferrari 458 Italia, but my favorite is the 911 GT3. Being able to drive these cars at speed on a real racetrack is amazing. Hit around 110 on the front straight but that wasn't the exciting part - taking 90 degree corners at 50 mph and nailing the throttle was amazing. With discounts it costs anywhere from $200 - $300 including insurance. Here is the Ferrari - listen to the engine. And it's fully automatic - no paddle use. And the 911 GT3 - not quite as much power as the Ferrari but that grip.......like a scalpel.....
  19. Yes it's x plan plus free maintenance for 2 years. Not sure what you have to do to get it.
  20. We have park assist on our Escape but have never used it in 18 months. We just don't have many parallel parking spaces here. I keep planning to put two cars on the street in front of the house and test it there but we haven't done it yet. I think I've parallel-parked 3 times in the last 5 years, and 2 of those were in other cities.
  21. I'm not positive, but I think there may be a floor vent in the rear console tied to the floor vent in the front (typically used for heat unless you override it) and the vents are tied to the front vents (typically used for cold air). When the heat is on and you hear the noise, check for hot air coming from around the bottom of the console for the rear seats.
  22. Or as my friend says who is a retired Ford transmission engineer - everything is severe service nowadays.
  23. If you're only referring to "severe service" then I agree.
