WE WANT APPS ON MY FORD TOUCH!
akirby replied to CinnamonEdge's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
What Waldo said. If it was that simple everyone would be doing it. As for "support" - there isn't any. You're at the mercy of the tablet supplier and the app developers. And they're not designed to last 10-20 years either. The touch screens all come from the same manufacturers - Ford isn't building their own. It's off the shelf stuff. And they're using off the shelf OS and HTML5 underneath the sync 3 application. But they have 100% control over all of the software - you wouldn't have that with a tablet. -
Dead battery - did this lead to a stereo/CD problem?

Pull the radio fuse or the negative battery terminal to reset it. -
New driving lights
akirby replied to krazyteggy's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
Those are technically illegal in Canada if you run them with the brights on or with dims and fog lights. You could run them legally with dims and no fog lights. And as stated you do not want to have these on with approaching drivers - you will definitely blind them if they're flood lights. -

All-new 2015 Edge using the old MFT hardware/software?
akirby replied to fastman's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
As for MFT killing quality - there are two parts. One is reliability which suffered a lot early on but has been pretty much fixed for the last 18-24 months as far as the software goes. There are still some hardware issues out there. The other is user acceptance - some people just do not like the MFT interface. Sync 3 will fix some of those complaints but there will be some who just don't like touch screens at all. I still believe one of the biggest things that confuses some owners with MFT is the quadrant menus. For techies like me it's great because I can go to any top level function at any time, but I think some people want a traditional button menu and that's what sync 3 has. Nobody will ever be 100% satisfied with new tech like this no matter what. I also believe Ford learned their lesson the hard way with MFT and won't repeat that fiasco. -
All-new 2015 Edge using the old MFT hardware/software?
akirby replied to fastman's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I have a 2012 Focus and it's only had 2 updates in 3 years, both done at home with no problems. My 2013 Fusion has had one upgrade, same thing. From late 2010 through early 2012 there were updates about once every 6 weeks trying to fix the stability problems. If you've had problems with usb upgrades on multiple vehicles then it must be your usb drives or your home computer where you download the updates. I can't see having a bad APIM on multiple vehicles back to back. -
seat belt reminder disable for push to start
akirby replied to daveski's topic in Forum Help & Site Suggestions
It's not specific to key ignitions - it just says to turn on the ignition but don't start the vehicle. On a push button start vehicle you hit the start button without your foot on the brake. Although I can't imagine why you'd want to disable it. Seat belts are extremely important.- 12 replies

Ford PremiumCare ESP and Premium Maintenance Plans
akirby replied to wlepse's topic in Recalls, TSBs & Warranty
Don't think it covers tires. Those electronics may be expensive but they usually either fail right away or last forever. It's rare for electronics to fail during an extended warranty period. That's the old scare tactic. It used to be engines and transmissions, now it's electronics. -
2011 Sport Nav/AV by pass Mod?
akirby replied to NexusFFO's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Just doesn't seem worth the cost and trouble just to be able to put in a destination without stopping since you can also use voice input while moving. And ditto on watching videos. -
That rings a bell - do a search for display repair. Might have been on another forum but I remember somebody doing a DIY repair. Not sure if it required a new screen or just resoldering.

All-new 2015 Edge using the old MFT hardware/software?
akirby replied to fastman's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
While wifi updates sounds cool, I don't see it as all that important. You're probably not getting more than 2 updates per year so using a USB flash drive every 6 months isn't that bad. -

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
akirby replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Ice fishing? I usually just buy my ice at the grocery store. It's not quite as fresh, though. -
You need an obd-II scanner. Most auto parts stores will do it for free. But they should go away by themselves if the problem was fixed.

All-new 2015 Edge using the old MFT hardware/software?
akirby replied to fastman's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Pretty sure thats a ford employee, probably an engineer with access to pre-production sync3 stuff. Not something the dealers would have. -
It's ironic that people are involved in accidents where they're not injured yet complain that the airbags didn't go off. They're only supposed to go off when you need them to protect you from serious injury. Now if you were injured by hitting the steering wheel or dash (and you were wearing your seatbelt properly) and they didn't go off, then I would be concerned. Hitting even a large deer won't provide that much deceleration.

All-new 2015 Edge using the old MFT hardware/software?
akirby replied to fastman's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
It sounds to me like this was planned for 2016 models all along and would not have been planned for the 2015 edge originally. It's entirely possible they go ahead with the new hardware with or without sync 3 software but that introduces a lot of variables on a new vehicle and given the botched intro of MFT on the 2011 edge I would be inclined to think they won't risk it. Anything is possible at this point so it's anybody's guess until we see the final product. -
Cloudy headlight lens
akirby replied to enigma-2's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
Yep. Acetone does the same thing and if there was a UV coating on the outside it's gone either way. Stick with the kits. They work. -
All-new 2015 Edge using the old MFT hardware/software?
akirby replied to fastman's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
It's possible the 2015 gets the new hardware in which case it would be upgradeable. But since the 2015 was supposed to be released already it may still have the old hardware. You'll just have to wait and see. -
But you do dry it off, right? Leaf blower?

Alarm Stuck in Valet Mode
akirby replied to Dtoo's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
If you're supposed to turn it on and off you'd need to hit the button 6 times without your foot on the brake. On/off/on/off/on/off.
