Battery dies after only 15 minutes in accessory mode ?
akirby replied to wes8398's topic in 2011 Edge & MKX
The battery is bad. Doesn't matter how it tests, it's bad. It's 3-4 years old. It's bad. If you pull the caps the fluid level is probably low. You can add distilled water and you may get a few more months. But the battery will fail again and you'll end up replacing it. I would just replace it and be done with it. -
And just for the record - I agree it's ridiculous.

Talk to the insurance company. Since you're not driving your Edge you can theoretically drop that insurance since anything that happens to it now is the dealership's responsibility. Then you can get a rider or policy just to cover the rental. I say theoretically because I've never tried to do it nor do I know if insurance companies will do it. But it seems logical.

Make sure Sync/MFT is the latest version.

DRL's Daytime running lights

Which is the right solution. Much, much, much simpler than trying to give dealers all the right information and options on a vehicle by vehicle basis. -
DRL's Daytime running lights

It has nothing to do with brightness. As far as DOT is concerned a light is a light and laws are laws. Of course Ford COULD do this from the factory. Where did anyone say otherwise? Blame designers for wanting fancier LEDs and combining those with DRL functionality - and consumers for wanting to buy them. That is resulting on some complicated designs that have to jump through hoops to remain DOT compliant. If they changed the laws then it would be much easier. e.g. for years now (maybe decades) when you have your fog lights on and hit the brights, the fog lights go off. Why? Because the brights usually illuminate 2 filaments in each headlamp for a total of 4, and adding the fog lights equals 6 and the law only allows 4. DRLs that use additional separate lights only add to the complexity. -

Again - fleet models have DRLs activated from the factory because they know the correct settings for each vehicle. Ford COULD allow DRLs to be installed at the factory but they choose not to. And trying to tell the dealers which DRL setting is legal for every single vehicle and option combination just isn't feasible. Could Ford to it? Sure. But it isn't nearly as easy as just off and on as Waldo pointed out. These LED strips are adding a lot of complexity. On Audis when the turn signal is on the LED strip on that side goes off. -

What he's saying is there could be other vehicles or models where some combination may be illegal in the U.S. at least in some states, so rather than Ford trying to document when it's legal vs. not legal and keep up with it they just did a blanket statement to limit their liability. Doesn't mean it can't be done, just a reason why Ford doesn't document it. -
2008 Edge power liftgate not working
akirby replied to Kim Barber Foss's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Forgot if it's one or two but that sounds like the problem as described above. If the strut fails the motor can't lift the door. -
Might need to use the Audiocontrol Lc2/lc6/lc8 to convert speaker level inputs to line level. I didn't see any other adapters that work with the factory wiring.
-
There is an adapter that plugs into the back of the head unit that provides line out connections IIRC. But I don't have any details.

2008 Edge power liftgate not working
akirby replied to Kim Barber Foss's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Did you replace the struts? -
It's probably a combination of ethanol and salt and some inferior materials. Based on the recall I think Ford changed the tank in 2009 so they don't believe those would be affected, otherwise they should have covered all of the them up through the 2010s at least. That assumption may not have been correct. The other less likely possibility is your 2010 had a 2007-2008 tank installed at some point as you stated. If you end up doing any repairs on your own on any model year save the receipts in case it gets covered later you can get reimbursed.

Differences between 2011 and 2013 Edge Sport?
akirby replied to ksandals's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Holy Crap! I had no idea the "replay" feature existed with Sirius. You can rewind/replay up to 45 minutes of the current station. It resets when you change stations. So basically it's a DVR - or DAR in this case. Cool! -
If the tanks are available they're the old design and Ford probably doesn't want to use them. They do need to keep some in stock for regular repairs not related to the recall. I think they just don't have enough supply of the old ones to change all the ones that are leaking and they don't have new ones available yet. Rock and a hard place for sure.
-
It's not always as easy to fix something as some people want it to be. Ford would not be parking vehicles and paying for rentals for several months if they could get a replacement tank immediately.
-
They send recalls because it's required by law to notify owners when a recall is issued. My guess is the tanks used on the 06-08 vehicles are no longer in production other than normal replacements, so Ford has to go back to the tank supplier and commission 200,000 units in addition to whatever they're currently producing for newer vehicles. You can't just wave a magic wand and expect 200,000 tanks to appear overnight. What I don't understand is why they don't just replace the ones that are actually leaking to buy enough time to get the replacement tanks for a permanent fix. Maybe there are too many of them for current stock. And if they can't do that then I think they should offer to buy back the vehicle at current market value and give the owner a fantastic deal on a new one to make up for it. Parking vehicles for months with loaners just doesn't make sense.

Sport dual exhaust system on the 3.5L
akirby replied to Manco-Capac's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Not necessarily. The Edge factory exhaust has proven to be very free flowing already, so any improvement would be minimal at best and probably not worth the cost. -
Double check to make sure there are no blocks in the springs. Doubtful but easy to check. Then check the air pressure in the tires. Also - what was your previous vehicle? If you were driving something like a Buick then the Edge will probably feel a lot stiffer.
-
Because those engines were never designed for turbos, and the turbos themselves were crap.
-
I think he was thinking it was the engine valve cover that was removed, not the transmission valve body.
-
There have been virtually zero turbo problems on the ecoboost engines and they've been around for almost 5 years already with some going well over 100K miles. These engines were built to be turbocharged from day one - totally different than trying to add a turbo to an engine not designed for one. This is more comparable to the turbo diesels which have been around for many many years in heavy duty trucks and semis. If you want the extra power get the 2.7L EB. If you don't care about that get the 3.5L.

I don't disagree about the way Ford is handling this. I think they should either install a newer tank (even if it's defective) until it can offer a permanent remedy. Or buy it back and put you in a new one.
