It's impossible for an air filter to increase fuel mileage on modern fuel injected cars.

SD Card navigation question
akirby replied to strike2tamu's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
It won't work unless it came from the factory with Navigation. -
Yes, unless you get an adapter.

Not exactly. If it works some of the time then the fob is obviously programmed to the vehicle correctly. I just meant that for some reason the button press isn't being seen by the vehicle. Could be simple interference - do you have anything else on the keychain with the fob? If nothing else on the keychain that might be interfering with the radio signal and you've changed the batteries in the fobs then it sounds like the receiver in the vehicle is having antenna issues.

Service Advance Trac & Yellow Wrench
akirby replied to Phillmatchett's topic in Recalls, TSBs & Warranty
Very unlikely since the advancetrac system has nothing to do with the engine intake. -
Even if you do put in a full intake and exhaust, the only point you'll see any difference in performance is at WOT where it will let more air in than a stock filter - but not much. Buy it for the sound or reusability - not for any real performance gains.

MFT report your successful installations or problems
akirby replied to exodus's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
The next version of MFT is rumored to be moving to new hardware and a new operating system but that hasn't been confirmed yet. It will be backwards compatible. The current problems are due mostly to the poorly written application software. There are some bad APIMs out there but that usually causes freezing or strange behavior not slowness. You're not going to get a tablet like touchscreen because the screen has to last the life of the vehicle - 10-20 years - not just 2-3 years. -
Autolocks will lock the doors (if enabled) when it reaches a predetermined speed (somewhere between 5-20 mph).

Make sure the cap is tight on tank and it's not cross threaded.

Software - any news on another update; post 3.6.2 / August 2013
akirby replied to Josh51's topic in 2013 Edge & MKX
I think the only question is whether they'll charge for the upgrade or not. If there are no license fees and it's self-installable then there probably won't be a charge. -
It's the one that says "Like this". :)

It may only be MFT, not sync by itself so that limits the number of vehicles. I would be surprised if it's licensed by vehicle. They may charge an upgrade fee for older vehicles. -

It's the exact same software for the 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014s. And it's pretty stable now. Don't expect any significant new features until the totally new version shows up later this year or maybe next year. It will be backwards compatible. -
Are you a left foot braker? If so then you could be riding the brakes and that would cause them to burn out much faster.

Dental floss also works.

Need Comments for my Ford Edge 08 if it should be Totaled
akirby replied to arielc's topic in Welcome Forum!
I've had 2 vehicles totalled in the last 2.5 years. The first was my daughter's 6 month old 2012 Focus when she didn't see the cars ahead of her stopping and rear ended another car. Geico paid me full retail value of a brand new one less 6 months depreciation. The second one was my older son's 2005 Focus that I had just signed over to him. It was 7 yrs old and we only paid $16K new. He fishtailed on a wet onramp and hit the side barrier. Geico wrote him a check for $8K! I was shocked. Of course YMMV depending on your insurance company. -

That should buff right out........ Sorry - not a laughing matter for you. If it got into the engine (as it appears) I'd say it's a goner. They totaled my daughter's 6 yr old 2012 Focus for a front end collision that appeared to have less damage than that. -
Voice command button stopped working
akirby replied to merryxmas15's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Could be the button itself OR the clockspring inside the steering wheel that makes the electrical connections from the buttons to the systems. If you can make it work by pressing harder or a different way then it's probably the button.- 9 replies

Storing an Intelligent Key in Vehicle
akirby replied to JRY's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Yep. The only restriction is if you only have one working IKT then the dealer has to program a new one. If you have two working IKTs you can add a 3rd one yourself.
