Storing an Intelligent Key in Vehicle
akirby replied to JRY's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Nope. You don't have to unlink it. The IKT doesn't know which vehicles it's been programmed to. The links are actually in each vehicle. You can take a used IKT and have it programmed to your vehicle same as a new one. If you had an extra IKT programmed to your vehicle and for some reason you sold the IKT to someone else you'd want to have the dealer wipe out that IKT from your vehicle so the person you sold it to couldn't use it on your vehicle. Otherwise it doesn't matter. -
Does anyone have an X Plan pin they can share?
akirby replied to gmaghera's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Oh yes - Ford cracked down big on plan pins a few years ago after finding lots of abusers including Dealers and employees who were actually selling PINs. So I could see that happening in 2003 but not any more. -

Once it's programmed to the vehicle there is no owner procedure to un-program it. You can add more keys yourself but only the dealer can wipe out previously programmed keys. -

From the Fordpartner website. Believe whatever you want to believe. It is a direct violation of the program rules to provide PINs to customers referred to the sponsor by a dealership employee or to use a dealership employee as a broker to locate X-Plan customers. In other words, you may not use a dealership or dealership employee to find customers, and you may not sell PINs to a dealership or dealership employee. In fact, selling PINs to anyone is a violation of Plan rules and is strictly prohibited. Violations of these rules will result in suspension of X-Plan eligibility (sponsor and/or company). -

A plan pricing is below dealer cost including holdback. Holdback is 3%, A plan is 4% below invoice. On an actual A plan sale Ford sends the dealer a spiff check to make up the difference so they don't lose money. Without an A plan PIN they don't get the spiff check. Unless there was a hefty documentation fee they lost money. I have heard of dealers doing that but it's certainly rare since you can't stay in business if you do it too much. It is illegal (against plan rules) for a Ford employee to give out a friends and family PIN to someone they don't know and allowing the dealer to give it out on their behalf is absolutely positively against plan rules and if Ford finds out the employee loses their plan participation and the dealer may as well. When they give it to someone on blue oval forums they have personal contact with the person and have their personal info. -

It's illegal for the dealer to give you a pin. It's ok if they generate the PIN on your behalf from fordpartner.com using your info and you consent to that, but that's no different than you generating it yourself. You're supposed to provide employment verification if you go that route. If the dealer allows you to get a pin from a company you no longer work for (knowingly) then you can both be suspended from the plan programs (A/Z/D/X). Any dealer who sells you a vehicle at the A plan price without a plan pin is losing money. This usually means they're making it up elsewhere (trade-in, add-ons, secret rebates, etc.). Otherwise it just doesn't make sense, especially when the dealer gets a spiff check from Ford for each plan sale. Not saying it's not possible but very hard to believe. -
NO! You have to check the owners manual to see what type and spec of fluid each one requires. Even Ford could have multiple versions or specs of a fluid and you have to get the right one for your vehicle. The specs are printed in the OM for a reason - PLEASE read it.
-
As long as the fluid meets the spec in the OM, yes.
-
What does the OM say? While you're looking that up double check the filter and oil spec.

Ford PremiumCare ESP and Premium Maintenance Plans
akirby replied to wlepse's topic in Recalls, TSBs & Warranty
The ESP term starts on day one of the regular warranty period, so a 7 yr 100K ESP is really a 4 yr 64K mile bumper to bumper warranty (after the 3/36 factory warranty) and a 2 yr 40K mile powertrain warranty (after the 5 yr 60K mile powertrain factory warranty). -
2014 Edge Defrost System Problem
akirby replied to Beerfoot's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
What Norm said. Make sure it's on fresh air. When air is below freezing it's very very dry which is why the A/C doesn't come on - there's no moisture to remove. -
I don't think there were any changes to those either through 2010 but again I'm not 100% sure.

HELP! I don't have a 12V power plug in my 2014 SEL
akirby replied to Izzy73's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Are you using a 12V adapter charger or a usb cable? -
The engine should be the same or very close up through the 2010 models. I don't remember if they changed anything for the 2011+.

Memory Seat Confusion
akirby replied to michaelfriesen's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Wow - you're really confused. Forget the IKT for a minute - just program the 2 memory positions to you and your wife. Get the seat and mirrors where you like them, press set, then 1. Let your wife do the same and press set, then 2. Now memory position 1 is yours and 2 is hers. You can now just press the 1 or 2 button when you get in the vehicle and it will go to that setting. Now think about the IKTs. You want YOUR IKT to activate memory position 1 and you want your wife's to activate memory position 2, so that's how you program them. It wouldn't make sense for the IKT to have more than one memory position - the point is to automatically set the seats and mirror to whoever's key is being used to unlock the door (presumably the driver). Hope that makes sense. -

I would do it with the engine running just to be safe. -
Memory Seat Confusion
akirby replied to michaelfriesen's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Don't worry about the easy entry - it's just telling you that if you use easy entry the seat won't be in the preset memory position until after you put the key in the ignition. First, program the memory positions you want using the door buttons. Press set, then 1 to program memory 1. Same for position 2. Make sure they work by pressing the 1 or 2 button. This is on page 150. Once you have those positions programmed correctly follow the instructions on page 136 to link those positions to the IKTs. Press and release Set. Press unlock on the IKT, then press either the 1 or 2 button to link that IKT to that memory position. When you use the IKT to unlock the doors it should go to that memory position. -
BTW - this was most likely caused by running the pump low on fuel (the fuel actually cools it) or debris that clogged up the pump causing it to overheat. It could have just been a defective pump too.

Hi Rebecca!

Assuming it was reset properly last time, you can go down to 0% and still be relatively safe.

Keep in mind that you're working through a Ford dealer and the dealers are independent businesses. Ford has little control over bad dealer behavior. I'm not saying that's what happened here but a lot of times owners have issues that turn out to be caused by the dealer not Ford corporate. But owners don't necessarily make a distinction between the dealer and Ford. The reason it's important is that you can fix a bad dealer by going to another one.

You can check the voltage on the fuel pump relay and the leads going to the pump. When it won't start if you're getting voltage to the fuel pump but you have no fuel pressure (verify at the fuel rail with a gauge) then it's the pump or the wiring at the pump. Could be a bad/loose connection to the pump or the pump itself is bad or clogged up. Does it tend to do it when the tank is close to empty?
